Dude, it sounds like the two of you figured it out, she ain't never going to be gone, I'm not superstitious, I don't believe in a man in the sky but I do know there is something greater than me and it seems to be us. So how can my logical mind think in terms of endings, but only new beginnings.

As the word just came down the wire that John Prine had succumbed to this Horrific disease, I found myself blindsided in a daydream where all of my friends and heroes were lined up, in a single file pilgrimage to pay homage to the man who had been, possibly, the most influential songwriter of the Great American Midwest.. He has assembled a classic songbook that defines Exactly what it means to be a struggling, sometimes starving, singer/songwriter in the Homeland of our country.. His songs have touched Everyone, whether they know it or not, and have served as a testament to every emotion, experience, and conviction of every man or woman who has ever fought for what they know to be true.. John Prine was a National Treasure, and we will never be the same without him.. Goodbye My Friend, goodbye... Lary

Lary, from a Brit, married to an American, both living now in Netherlands...your words ring as true for our very different circumstances. I first discovered John Prine when I was searching around after punk lost some of its initial sheen/honesty for me. We finally got to see JP at Paradiso in 2018 and it was everything (and more) than I had hoped for. Keep the flame burning there. Step lightly.

Curious: Which song? Haha! Jealous you found him so young. I am in my sixties and only found his music on you tube after he passed. For some reason I remembered his name from the announcement that he had passed from Covid. Then my journey of discovery began. I don't think a day passes that i don't listen to some of his songs. Truly brilliant song writer.

Lyrics She was a level-headed dancer On the road to alcohol And I was just a soldier on my way to Montreal Well, she pressed her chest against me About the time the juke box broke Yeah, she give me a peck On the back of the neck And these are the words she spoke "Blow up your TV Throw away your paper Go to the country Build you a home Plant a little garden Eat a lot of peaches Try an' find Jesus on your own" Well, I sat there at the table And I acted real naive For I knew that topless lady Had something up her sleeve Well, she danced around the bar room And she did the hoochie-coo Yeah, she sang her song all night long Tellin' me what to do "Blow up your TV Throw away your paper Go to the country Build you a home Plant a little garden Eat a lot of peaches Try an' find Jesus on your own" Well, I was young and hungry And about to leave that place When just as I was leavin' Well, she looked me in the face I said, "You must know the answer" She said, "No, but I'll give it a try" And to this very day, we've been livin' our way Here is the reason why We blew up our TV Threw away our paper Went to the country Built us a home Had a lot of children Fed 'em on peaches They all found Jesus on their own

I well remember this song, as that was the year and the song he played at ASU campus in Boone, N,C, I met him in Boone, N.C 1972. He had just got into town on the bus and I was working at the bus station, helping a guy remolding it. He seemed tired, and was going to walk to ASU campus, were I was a student. The funny thing was, I told him I would take his guitar (a Marin acoustic guitar, very expensive) to the college auditorium where he was going to play that night. He said sure, and I took off with his guitar. When I got to the college, a couple of the guy's that heard me say I would meet him at the college, told John that he would never see that guitar again, as sure as can be, he has stolen it!!!!! Ha, I just think of that day, especially now as he is in heaven (Spanish Pipedream)! This the kind of songs he was famous for. He was so young then, 23 or 24. Well, John and I hit it off great after that he saw his guitar was safe and ‘sound’, and I was no "thief"! Speaking of "sound", it did, and a very good sound!

@jostauffer66373 ай бұрын
Hello in There makes me cry every time. I remember being a little girl about 7 years old and going with my mom and dad to a restaurant on Friday eves. There would be an old man sitting at a table eating all alone (probably lost his wife) and it would make me tear up. But I was shy. I should have gone over and talked to him like I wanted to. In all of John's songs, I think there is something that touches our own experience. What a master!!
