The thing is that the polls in 2016 were right. Clinton DID beat trump by the margins predicted. But the outcome of the electoral college did not follow the popular vote. Because of our current jacked up system (that should be revised) polls would be more meaningful if they were state by state instead of nationally, since that’s how the president is chosen.

Then, as now during this clip, Mendacious Media was simply refusing to say the name of Bernie Sanders for fear the name recognition alone would prompt people to vote FOR him and the ISSUES he (and we) care about far more than Moronic Media's personality pissing contests.

If you decide who wins by one or two soundbites, I don't know what to think. Biden commanded the lead of the debate all night, had the most time spoken, and even got the audience to back him and turn on Castro. I felt Warren did really well, and Bernie was his usual self, but Biden has always made gaffes, his whole career is built on them, but he also had some really good answers for some questions like healthcare and defended himself from others really well.
@DivingDog0
@DivingDog0 4 жыл бұрын
"you're letting your bias color the debate" How? By pointing out that things Biden got away with other candidates (let's say for example Yang) would not have? I've got nothing going for Yang. But I can recognise when he's been ridiculed and dismissed for less. What's my bias then? Even-handedness? "If you decide who wins by one or two soundbites, I don't know what to think." The gymnast can tumble and flip the whole length of the balance beam, but if they come down on their face once or twice during the routine I'm going to point out that they didn't have 'a good night'. Performance is as much about lows as it is highs. "but Biden has always made gaffes, his whole career is built on them" In politics you've got to take the good with the bad, I agree. The perfect man and thus the perfect candidate doesn't exist. But to suggest Biden's gaff-fu should *not* be factored into his performances, simply because they happen frequently, is a terrible precedent to set.

@corynardin the Constitution doesn’t say we can’t have a popular vote, it just says the states get to decide how they send their delegates. People didn’t even vote for president the first few elections (it was the legislatures who picked) until they quickly realized how dumb that was.
@corynardin
@corynardin 4 жыл бұрын
@@Jakeobfreedman the math doesn't add up. Popular vote means every vote counts the same, but if you divide the delegates by the population for each state respectively, those in Wyoming will have a far larger impact then those voters from California.

So this is another reason why John was in New York for Monday's pod! I'm glad he's the one on Colbert, their comedic approaches to politics really go well together as opposed to the more straight man trio of Dan, Jon and Tommy.

Gonna confess I haven't watched The Wizard of Oz even after putting it on my "to watch" list for so many years now. This show just spoiled it for me lol. @@thedarknesst5995 That isn't the issue. Stephen is a terrible interviewer in general, but in this interview particularly. He talks over the guests for no good reason- he's not adding information, he's not defining nuance, he's reworking punchlines aloud. If you're being interviewed and the interviewer asks you a question, the expectation is that you'll be allowed to answer rather than be talked over by the interviewer reposing the question again and again trying to make it funnier.

@@lynxminx4 I don't fully disagree with you, but I also recognize the difficulty of getting a good interview on a show that people definitely watch for comedic purposes more than anything (that's why they chose Colbert, a comedic type). Whether you think he's good in general or not, i do think this one being worse is a product of the show being live.

@@thedarknesst5995 The thing about Colbert's behavior has nothing to do with him being a comedic types. You can be a comedic type and still have conversational skills that wouldn't allow what we see here to happen. When Conan started he was a relatively weak interviewer- he learned on the job and now he's one of the best. Colbert is the same guy he was four years ago....

"His career is rooted in genuine loss and pain"... I understand that.. but these are people.. politicians.. government employees.. public servants who have the best insurance, and he didn't have to go through that extra pain in losing his home, his job from having to take off to care for sick family members, the added stress from the financial discord... ACA was a good start, but it was not bullet proof. We have to have something that cannot be dismantled by the GOP every time we turn around. Any improvements to ACA would not achieve those ends. There would always be push-back. ACA had too many fly-by-night insurers who didn't cover anything. And the only way to get all doctors and hospitals on board, is to not allow private insurers, period. If private insurers are still out there, then doctors and hospitals would ONLY accept them as insurance.
