Jordan Peterson may be a smart guy but I don't get my theology from non-believers. " But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." 1 Corinthians 2:14

I would much rather get Biblical interpretations from agnostic Biblical scholars than from the Christian echo chamber any day. The former group will do an objective analysis to determine what the Bible actual says. The Christian echo chamber is just going to repeat what their pastor tells them to believe. Your comment shows your ignorance.

I'd love to see a sit down with Todd Friel and Jordan Petersen. Petersen needs to ravel further down the path, but he's heading in the right direction... I think.

He's started to realize that the Bible works. Its systems of laws and morality works. But he's yet to ask himself how and why it was that these ancient writers got it right.

But he’s focusing on it from the perspective of a psychologist. JP intellectualizes Christianity and misses the central core message: that Christ died for our sins.

Peterson may be wrong but his opinion is changing. The reformed guys are wrong on at least 7 major issues and will never figure it out. Not the least of which is if sin is an action or a disease.

He likes all things Genesis. So if you claim Moses didn’t write it, Mr. Ham has something to say about it.

Peterson is wrestling with the documentary hypothesis, a theory that emerged in the late 19th century along with the higher criticism of Scripture from Germany. I learned it in seminary. But even my Oxford-trained OT scholar professor admitted that the theory was now debunked and that even Oxford would not adhere to it.

Permit me to correct a grave discrepancy, that I committed to writing, in the previous comment. The word "incarnate" was intended to indicate "preincarnate", in reference to Jesus. I felt, in order to be completely honest in this regard, that it was necessary to correct this error. Thank you for humoring me and putting up with this little dissertation.

Todd Freil's own calvanistic dogma, kinda shuts him outta any serious theoligical and religious discussions, so I can't take his opinions on others very seriously.

Why can't people just give God the credit for the writing of scripture. ALL SCRIPTURE! Is that so hard? Sure Jesus recognizes Moses for the writing of the first five books, yes. But how could Moses know, with such intricate detail all the things that happened in the Garden when he wasn't there? I always like to use this analogy... I am a CEO of my company, and I want a letter drafted. So I call in my secretary to dictate a real nasty letter from me to my competitor. Who are the words of the letter coming from, me, or my secretary? If you say my secretary, then I feel sorry for you. Point is, God gave us 2 Pet 1:21 for a reason and still you Christian teachers refuse to understand, and give God all the glory for HIS Word. Really, this has been a test, and people have failed drastically. Every man that had a hand in the writing of those 66 books we call the Bible, was used by God to say exactly what God wanted him to say. Every "jot, and every title." Peterson isn't convicted of this because God hasn't saved him. His strength is in his intellect, not Eternal God. But all kinds of Biblical teachers, that should know better...don't know better. Moses wrote NOTHING that God didn't want him to write. You also might want to read Jer 36:4-6. There, God shows us exactly how the Bible was written

Maybe he did. But I’d think Joshua actually added the addendum. Linguistics has shown it’s a bit different from the rest of Deuteronomy.

The New Testament writers refer to the Law, or the Law of Moses, or the Book of Moses, but Genesis doesn’t contain the Law. “The Law” Is a figure of speech, the part referring to the whole. The other four books were written in the third person, so Moses was not the writer. Those books quote Moses and what he did, but the narratives were not written by Moses. So there is no biblical evidence that Moses wrote either Genesis or the rest of the Torah.

I’ve listened to a lot of Jordan Peterson, and while he has certainly put a lot of study into his understanding of the Bible as an important work of historical and philosophical literature, he has summarily missed the point of the Book.

Henry Morris believes that the Patriarchs wrote Genesis. It is clear that he wrote the remainder of the Pentateuch because Jesus himself affirms it. Genesis is "beginnings" and the rest is law. How do we know that Moses wrote Genesis?
@johnlennox-pe2nq
@johnlennox-pe2nq 4 ай бұрын
That's the accepted view, going back thousands of years before Christ; at the first Council of Nicea 325 AD, the church patriarchs had to discern, by the input of the Holy Spirit, what should be in the Bible canon, who wrote xyz MS.. and also that which was not God breathed, were forgeries etc, to put aside.

Jesus was around way back before the time that the book of Genesis was written, in his incarnate state, because he is God. Jordan Peterson , on the other hand, was not going to be born a long long time later, because he is a mere man...not God. Jordan also wasn't an eye witness, because he didn't exist yet. Grant you, Jordan is a smart man, I certainly attest to that. Jesus is God the Son, and cannot lie. Then again Jordan, though extremely intelligent, still does not know everything, because he is a mortal. God is immortal, and knows all things. Jordan is basing his theory on conjecture. A theory is a supposition based on the ignorance of the subject under discussion...that's why it is a THEORY, not a completely known fact.

Peterson isn't objecting on any intellectual basis. I think he's just struggling to accept it because the truth is so miraculous. He can't wrap his big brain around it. Moses wrote the Pentatuch, but it was transcribed many times by the ancient Jews, as was most of the Old Testament. It is not beyond reason to deduce that those scribes applied their own literary style to the text without changing the meaning at all. From what I've read, Jewish scribes transliterated the manuscripts often, and it was an acceptable practice. Jordan should try reading Moses's original writings. Oh, that's right, they were almost 4,000 years ago. Of course, the copies will differ. After all, language evolves, and the scribes were responsible for keeping the text contemporary in order to be read in the synagogues. I like Jordan Peterson, but he is missing the whole point of scripture.
