So, how did it go?
@Duunti2 ай бұрын
@@sail4life very well! Did tip the boat over once, in a good gust though (thought I could uncleat it, but guess what the angle was little too shallow for me 😅 ) that was somewhat scary for him for a sec, but after we got it back up he was bragging about it 😂 He liked it and definitely wants to get on a cat again. The speed and spray from the chop was what really got him to find it very cool 💪🏼

@@Duunti Oh Boy, you're lucky he took the tip so well! That could have put hm off. I caught my brother telling his son he was lucky he didn't capsize his Oppie, so I told him not capsizing just means you are not trying hard enough! The last thing you want is having them scared of tipping.Its no biggie and can be a lot of fun just the same!

@@JoyriderTV I think the worst thing is to whack the crew with the boom. Stay down... Stay Down....

@@JoyriderTV I think the mistake a lot of sailors make (regardless of boat) is to assume that the new person will enjoy the same thrills they do. However, they tend to forget that they are so desensitized themselves that what thrills them is scaring the absolute @#$&^% out of their inexperienced crew. Just the basics are more than thrilling enough to get anyone hooked, especially on a multi-hull!

@@sail4life Yes, often overlooked and I think that I might have been guilty of that myself in the past. Good point.

What a polite young gentleman you have as a sailing companion. I wish him many hours of pleasant sailing. PS: Most youngsters of today don't like putting their phones down and doing something outside.

I'm hoping that while on their phones they come across some cat sailing videos and get out there!

Went with a Garmin Fenix 7X. Garmin also makes a quatix which is marine specific, but the fenix does everything it can do minus the unusable marine maps and it’s cheaper. Fenix 7 Sapphire solar edition is prime for serious sailors.

I like scaring the crapp out of em. Teach them some respect for sailing. Usually the ones I give rides too just got off a motorboat so they think it's a joke.

This happened with my wife when I first got into sailing. We did a demo, the guy purposely tried to scare her by keeling over excessively. Now she refuses to get on a sail boat.
@brucemaguire32382 жыл бұрын
@blacksheep1b. Very similar thing happened to me. My wife took sailing lessons from very inexperienced kids at a local yacht club. Long story short the class weren't prepared for wind conditions and the boat turtled. The instructors didn't know how to deal with the situation and now she refuses to go sailing with me.

Yeah, if some cocky individual comes onboard with a this isn’t going to be at all exciting attitude, then maybe I’ll find it hard to resist. If it’s someone that you want to do it again, I find that the more gentle approach is best
