Steve wrote a song about all this on his FTLOSM Album, it spoke of how he felt about the band, how he felt they all loved the music, how they were brothers, he tells them how sorry he was. Then in interviews he admits that if he had to do it all over again that he wouldn't have done some of the things he did. But I'm sorry Neal and Jon, as much as I love their talent were very selfish. Steve Perry was legally a member of the band from 1978-1998 that's 20 years. And it stands he was Journey

@a.barnard32055 жыл бұрын
No ONE MAN, is ever responsible, for the success of an entire group! Please don't forget that it's STILL called a BAND. If Steve Perry was such a hot-shit vocalist, pre- Journey, then he should have found employment as such, in 1976. NOPE! Not the way it happened. Perry and Journey needed each other on a 50/50 basis. Talented band, but not selling records. Talented vocalist, but starving to death in the bay area. They both join forces and then BOOM! But make no mistake, otherwise. If Steve Perry hadn't made the cut, in Journey, it would have happened for someone else, I'm sure.
@slamecatzwell55444 жыл бұрын
@@a.barnard3205 they wouldn't have known if he would have made the cut or not because they didn't have enough sense to want Steve. Thankfully one of the guys spoke up and told them Steve was going to be with the group whether they liked it or not. Let’s face it. Men can harbor jealousy, too! I wished that Herbie hadn’t worked them so hard with the INSANE scheduling (touring). Musicians & vocalists need breaks, or can burn out. Steve was the glue, the passion & the attraction, with the unique VOICE, creativity & charisma; the excitement which complimented each member. Neal’s beastie, outta this world guitar strumming, Greg’s mellow vocals & keyboards & harmonica, Steve Smith’s powerhouse drumming, Ross’ on point bass, Cain’s masterful musical direction, Aynesley’s rhythmic drumming~all worked in perfect cohesion. I miss them like crazy but am so thankful for what they gave to us. “What was once, was...”

Look, if you're a rock band and your lead singer has a serious hip injury, and you pressure him to get hip replacement surgery so you can go on tour when he's reluctant to get the surgery right away, and then you decide to replace him and go on without him even though he's the main reason you were successful in the first place, that's not cool. Steve didn't leave the band on his own, his bandmates(including Cain and Schon) were being assholes about his physical health and recovery.
@betterbuytickets74938 жыл бұрын
All I can ALL of you out there, is if your hip is in the debilitating pain that Steve was in, get it replaced. It is so worth putting that pain behind you and getting on with life. I know: I had one replaced in 1996 and the other three years later.... I can't run or play tennis anymore (stop and go puts extra wear on the joint) but I have walked over 2,500 miles and knocked off weight. I weigh 109 lbs and it is all from walking and with the exception of seeing the scar on the beach.... no one would know. Get it done.... don't suffer!! And if you are up north and can pick a month to do it... I did... January... I hate winter and i totally back to myself by spring!!1 Just do it!!!
@Electrocution008 жыл бұрын
Heads up, I'm not trying to start a comment battle, just presenting some facts. Hip replacement ain't so cut and dry like it seems. Today it is much safer and less risky than back in Steve's day. 20 years ago there was a high risk that you couldn't walk if the surgery was unsuccessful. A great friend of my family got hip replacement and they cracked his pelvis. Imagine being confined to a wheelchair the rest of your life, it ain't pretty.
@44excalibur8 жыл бұрын
BetterBuy Tickets Look, getting hip replacement surgery is a very serious procedure. While I do agree that it's better to have it done than not, it's not a decision that should be rushed, and it's certainly not a decision that should be made by a band that just wants to get back on the road as soon as possible. No one rushed Eddie Van Halen when he needed hip replacement surgery. The fact is that Perry's bandmates were very selfish when it came to him making a decision about his physical health, thinking more about their own career and touring than about Steve's well being.

Every human being that has ever been born upon this tiny blue rock in space will eventually become tired and will eventually look back his/her life to review both the success and failure. Steve Perry is certainly NO exception to this golden rule. I have had a chance to view both the VH1 documentary of Journey® and Mr. Perry's triumphant return to the musical comeback. The former Journey front man, even at age 62 STILL looks great after his lengthy hiatus. Although many legions of Journeyheads™ such as myself wish that Steve return in some capacity to the group. And as far as band members Schon and Cain making the decision to remove Perry from the band through both personal and professional issues...one can most certainly forgive but one should NEVER forget! Final analysis: What clearly sets us apart from the rest of God's magnificent creatures is our ability to make decisions. Period. Steve Perry's departure from Journey was certainly NOT the most deserved, sweetest or tactful...he has built a lasting impression upon ever Journey fan. And by this factor alone, this speaks high volumes! With or with Journey at his back, he will NEVER be facing their back!
@a.barnard32055 жыл бұрын
Oh really Jackie? How about when Perry decided to fire Ross Valory and Steve Smith, in 1985? What kind of decision was THAT? Perry WRECKED the hit making machine that was Journey because a lot of Journey Fans placed GREAT reliance in the skilled rhythm section of Journey! Simply put, for one example, when John Bonham died in 1980, Led Zeppelin, rather than try and REPLACE "Bonzo" just simply up and quit. A very FINE tribute to the ONE drummer, in the rock era that simply could NOT be "replaced" by ANYONE!

Journey was a band that had to go Through "evolutions" in order to arrive as the recording and performing band they would be FAMOUS for, in the long haul. Take a look at the projected picture of JOURNEY as they appeared in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony. THAT picture, will ALWAYS be Journey for me and millions of other fans, because THAT picture was the PEAK of the evolution that Journey went through, to reach that point and become the BAND that they always wanted to be.

Cain and Schon - Schon particularly - have rightfully had criticism thrown their way over the years, but Perry is not the entirely blameless angel his voice leads many to believe. All-in-all, he is a nice guy, but like all humans, he has insecurities and selfishness. Fine, but he shouldn't be given a free pass for some of the thing he's done whilst his band mates get roasted on the fire, that's all I'm saying. But he did admit the Valory-Smith firing wasn't a great move.

But that's why I don't have as much sympathy as most for the way he was forced out of Journey in '98, because he had didn't give a second of thought to offloading Valory and Smith in '85, or finishing a band in '87 that, despite his undoubted credentials, was never his to finish.

I like new singer Arnel. He understands how hard life can be and I support him and the "new" Journey all the way! I was skeptical at first about him because I love Steve Perry but after watching this a few times, I can see that Arnel has his feet on the ground way more than Steve Perry ever did. Steve came off as kind of an asshole. After seeing this, and him making all the band members put their life on hold just so he could think about his hip surgery. Steve wasn't with the band throughout most of the eighties so he could be with Sherrie, so of course he wasn't going to feel like part of the band. Steve stopped talking to them after they kicked him out and you can tell that they hadn't been talking to each other when this was filmed. The band was never Steve's. It was always Neal's and always will be, the success was attributed to the "voice" and Steve made it work. Let their "Wheel in the Sky" keep on turnin'!

Thompson007 Sure he does. Now that they rescued him from eating out of trash cans in a 3rd world country and brought him to millions on another man's legacy. Arnel built not a fkng thing. Perry should have never touched a DYING band to begin with. Ungrateful pricks.

Thompson007 They were losing their record contract and couldn't get radio airplay. They hired Steve. He brought them to 2 gold albums, 8 multiplatinum albums, 1 diamond album, numerous top 40 singles and a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. They SQUANDERED all the riches he made them on drugs, bad choices, fat living and divorces. That is why they couldn't wait on a hip surgery. He was nothing to them but a cash cow. The greedy pigs didn't care about him personally or about his health. THEY CARED ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS. That is what pissed him off and that is why he didn't pick up the phone.
@valeriehambly41809 жыл бұрын
Thompson007 Arnel Pineda sings auto-tune into a hard drive and lip syncs at concerts. Journey was CAUGHT doing exactly that with Steve AUGERI. The drummer helps him out with vocals...Also.Arnel Pineda is an over-eager cheerleader used to gain an enormous Asian and Filipeno fan base for a dying band to recycle EVERYTHING PERRY and try to pass it off as something new. They can all thank Steve Perry because none of them could get it for themselves (that certainly includes Arnel). They couldn't sell a record or get on the radio before or since $$$$TEVE Perry left.

How exactly did Steve come off as an asshole? Look, if you're a rock band and your lead singer has a serious hip injury, and you pressure him to get hip replacement surgery so you can go on tour when he's reluctant to get the surgery right away, and then you decide to replace him and go on without him even though he's the main reason you were successful in the first place, that's not cool. Steve didn't leave the band on his own, his bandmates(including Cain and Schon) were being assholes about his physical health and recovery. And Arnel is nothing more than a set of replacement vocal chords, just like Steve Augeri was. It's not like when Brian Johnson replaced Bon Scott in AC/DC or Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth in Van Halen. In both instances, the new singers brought a new, unique dynamic that was different from their predecessors which altered the entire direction of the bands. What does it say about Journey when they keep hiring guys whose only requirement is that they sound as much like Steve Perry as possible? It just says that even the band knows that they can't really continue without Steve, so they keep searching for guys with matching vocals as if they were replacing guitar strings.

comment makes no sense - even schon and cain know that steve brought the success and they have lived off those songs and peoples memory of the voice- even their new singer arnel rightfully reveres Steve P- he is the reason journey is..

The real truth is that Steve Perry damaged his voice and was not able to sing the higher notes in Journey's previous songs. The hip injury was just an excuse. Just listen to the last concerts and it is obvious that the guy was not able to tour and sing the songs everyday. The quality of his great voice was going down with every album and at the end seemed close to Rod Stewart's. Just listen. I don't think that one can argue about the incredible voice he had, but was gone.

The most boring band of all times.

Im in the minority here because to me and other purists Steve Perry is NOT the voice of Journey!!!! Gregg Rolie is the voice of Journey and their 1975 is their most energetic and guitar driven album. I like a handfull of the Steve Perry Journey songs mostly for nostalgia sake and not for the music itself.
