As per Steve,You got that right. Man O' Man how good the 80s where and the music was the best. Which btw I saved your awesome 80s playlist to my library. Anytime I read a comment that is related to the 80s vibes I try to check out there chnl to see if the person has great taste in music, and if they do,I save to my library.I have dozens of cool playlist that I enjoy listening too that cool people created. Thanks for sharing. As per Journey, the first song I remember of them playing was when I was 11 and the name was Loven Touchen Squeezen. Yeppers, sure do miss being a teenager in the 80s, however, I am thankful that I did grow up in the 80s along with my brothers sister's and friends. ✌️9.5.24 Atlanta

After watching this documentary, I am even more appreciative of Steve Perry, his integrity and values. If my mother was very if I lost my mother and if I had severe pain and needed more time to heal, I would not hesitate in taking the time off to do that. I am so glad that he did. Too bad that the other band members did not have the maturity to wait longer for his recovery or the compassion to support Steve's recovery. Wellness comes first. And "family" do take care of their family members when they are hurt and nurture them back to health. Finding a replacement was a clear message that money and the branding of the band were the priority. No matter many times Journey tried to replace Steve Perry with Steve Perry sound-alike vocalists, no matter how lovely these vocalists were, the truth of the matter is that Steve Perry was, is, and will always be irreplaceable. You cannot replace a person's soul, heart, and energy.

My husband Patrick just got a total hip replacement 2 weeks ago tomorrow, and let me tell you something, it is not a decision you just make over night or even months. This is major surgery! It took my husband 3 years to make this decision to finally have it done. He is now recovering good thanks to god. But I totally can relate to Steve's decision to seek other rimiedies and not just do it on a fly. But he did what was best for him and I'm happy for him no matter what. The fact that the current Journey members try to replace steve perry with steve perry sound-a-likes, is a true testament to Steve Perry, and the effect he had on Journey's music. They've been reduced to a "Cover Band" which is unfortunate, and I wouldn't go see them if they were playing at the local county Fair across the street (and it is across the street) lol, without Steve Perry. Steve Perry is still a Hottie!!! Best wishes for a long and happy life, to all Journey Members, and Especially Steve Perry, You've given me hours of joy with your beautiful singing, and soul, and here is hoping life brings you all the joy, you have given the fans. I had the pleasure of seeing Journey in concert 3 times in the early 80's and it was a very magical time, just like Steve described it. I have been to many other concerts over the years, but I can honestly say that none of them had the feeling in the air , I guess that's what I'd call it the way that Journey did when Steve Perry was still with them. I can't completely describe it.. You just had to be there to understand. I have never felt that feeling since ! I'm so happy that I got to see them before he left the band !!!!

What I find sad is that Steve Perry hurt his voice because of all the back to back touring they did. Crazy and not good for vocal chords which are delicate like tissue paper. Just listening to his interview, you can hear the raspiness that wasn't there when he started. He seems to be very sensitive and intelligent. Schon seems completely unaware of anyone else's feelings except his own. I remember Steve said in an interview that Schon is "radical and lives his life that way, with restless abandon". Kind of describes Schon's personality. Although Perry cant hit those soaring notes now it doesn't mean he's lost his touch of singing with resonate emotion. So if it means him singing in a lower register I'll take it...gladly.
@TheDizzleHawke3 жыл бұрын
His voice has always been healthy. He never damaged his vocal chords. Many old rockers lower keys. Billy Joel, Elton, etc. Those high notes are a young man’s game. He lost his passion for music and just stopped singing for 25 years. If you don’t use it, you lose it.

@janetbuttery27909 ай бұрын
So disappointed to know Neal implied that Steve did not want to work,when he physically could not.After the way Steve worked so physically hard as well as emotionally hard on stage, that must have been such a hurtful, sharp barb. Did it not occur to Neal that it was most probably due to Steve's hard physical work for Journey, that arthritis had set in so early in his life and what that must have felt like for him. Such an unnecessary and thoughtless remark.

Steve, Journey will always be... The Journey with you as lead singer. The band members had their many talents separately, but Journey was never really whole until you joined. Everything else is just petty BS. As you have witnessed even since u have not been there, they bicker & fight amongst each other, it just their nature. I'm glad u got out when u did. Selfishness & Greed r never good to base friendship or business on. 😊

They spend seven years totally lost until Steve decided to come back and put the band together again. Make a major comeback with a Grammy nominated song and when Steve faces a health crisis, once again they turn their backs on him. What the hell did they expect him to do? Perform in crutches or on a wheelchair? To make things even worse, they pressure him to get surgery, couldn't even wait for the man to recover. What a bunch of bitter and greedy cry babies. Steve was too good for them and I'm sure they have regretted their decision ever since. There is a reason why every single "substitute" front man they hire sounds like Steve. They're trying to recapture that magic, but the magic is gone, better said, they let the magic go, and that magic is Steve Perry.

It seems odd (and extremely disappointing) to me that Neal and Jon went without Journey for *10 years* and, yet, they couldn't wait just a little longer for Steve to take care of his health issues on his own timeline. The fans would have waited for a tour. If they wanted the band back so badly, why didn't they try to reunite with Steve during the 10-year hiatus? But, instead, we've been deprived of the greatest voice of the rock era. Seeing Steve Perry live is at the top of my bucket list, but I'm not optimistic. Although I suppose he could have been touring on his own all these years like he did with FTLOSM in 1994. Just one more time, that's all I want! I don't even care if his voice is toast.

Rewatch the old making of video for We are the World, and pay attention to the hoops they jumped through to get Bob's two lines to work, he was terrified when he walked into that room. RS placed him in the top 15, Steve in the lower 70's. Also, though for some reason they are shown out of sequence, you can see Bruce practically falling out of his chair the first time he hears SP sing.. In the new Netflix making of video, Bruce makes his feelings known.

Yeah, I get Neal's point: Journey "existed" before and after Steve. It's the quality that's missing. If people don't mind a Journey tribute band then that is what they'll accept if they buy a ticket today. If the signature lead singer is gone, it's not the same band-like if the Stones used a Mick wannabe. Understood too is the reality that Journey is Neal's way of making a living so he'll continue Journey as long as he can still make thousands off the name, rotating frontman clones as needed.

Maybe a “whose the leader” tug of war that incites jealousy, misunderstandings and finally tears the whole thing down. WHY couldn’t these mature,adult individuals take a good look at themselves-their values, what each ones talent was and the lineup of priority for “their” band!?! Each played a major talented part and brought their gift to this band. BUT the lead singer Steve was/is the alpha-regardless. And that group could not see past their own prides that they had the alpha of all time as their bands lead. His gut instincts seem to have picked the right choices for the type of sound that made Journey. You can put enough songs on an album if another member wanted to try a sound they liked such as Cain etc, let them-it would be one song out of many. But the majority of decisions would be clear as day what the fans wanted-and that was Steve and his way of music. If members are in it for money-maybe they should have made the path for Journey to soar a little easier for the one who was making it soar and putting money in the bank. JOURNEY at its best and the one remembered is gone-never to come back. Petty jealousies and stubborn prides , misunderstandings they couldn’t humble themselves to sort out , finally lost that band into the past. And that was a big loss! To this day Steve Perry is still in so much demand -because he has that voice, sound and delivery that grabs people. Even at 72. He’s loved beyond belief while the substitute Journey is still trying to make it and are still squabbling among themselves . Yes Schoen may have founded the band and it was a good band-but adding Steve Perry took it beyond good and immortalized it. Too bad they couldn’t see that and forget the foolish fighting that led to all their great loss. I have the real Journey cd’s when the band was a smooth fantastic mega band. Cd’s with Steve Perry, Jonathan Caine, Neil Schoen, and the other two are the only ones I consider “Journey”. As for trying to replace Steve - was not even an option. The singers they tried were very talented people in their own rights-but no Steve and that’s what the people wanted-nothing else would do/period. Arnel is the closest but still not the right fit-and it looks like they’ve worn him down to a shadow of what he was in the beginning. I think he’s almost as burnt out emotionally and physically as Steve got. And Armel seems to be a humble sincere human. Steve saw this and gave him credit at the induction to r&r hall of fame for working so hard to make this band a go. Sooo, I’m thinking these remaining members are where they are now because of their own misguided choices and blind instincts. Reap what you sow!

Steve Perry is Journey. He is the heart & soul of the band. Without his incredible vocals and musical talent Journey would be nothing. Steve’s strength and courage to walk away when he did is admirable. Who does that? A man of Integrity who is true to himself that’s who. The band should have been kind and compassionate to Steve’s needs first and foremost over money. Greed and jealousy is an ugly thing to see In any situation. God will truly bless you Steve for your heart of Gold which touches all of the hearts of your fans.

Lol Jon Cain is hilarious. He says the band is family, but then when Steve (a member of the "family") is struggling and needs the support of Jon to be there for him, the main concern is that the band didn't get to tour or promote the album. It's understandable and unfortunate, but giving up on Steve was a bad move.

I agree there was other avenues to take with the band. Ok he wasn't ready to tour because of the injury and wanted to wait on surgery....What about recording more music another album before taking it to extremes. On the other hand we have been waiting for new music from Perry for over 20 yrs. He makes a statement that new music will be coming early 2016 and once again we are still waiting. It will be interesting to see what happens at the end of this tour. The band had no plans on new music.

I agree with your both Ryan Bane & Chris Toomey----- I believe that is what SP was meaning by ,, dont fracture the stone, dont fracture Journey,, he meant go out & do 'other' things that did not involve the Journey CORE- & he wanted them to wait for him to recover from his heath.... I think Neal/Jon wanted a timeline-- (as in) how long do you want us to wait for you.... well if your a 'family' and loyal you would wait however long it would take,,, you would - not- put an ultimatum or time line on that... but I think SP knew it was coming anyway,,, when he said - dont fracture the stone- he knew what Jon & Neal were capable of since they were already telling him they were interviewing other singers to take his place--- that they would go on -- as Journey......... sorry but that is not something I would ever make amends for...... see you at a venue,, sure I'd say hello... maybe... but reunite as a band----- forget it! if they did it once to him,, they would do it again in a heartbeat..

Because you don't possess the talent or the understanding that it takes to do that night after night after night and still keep your common sense and decency about you! To bad, Steve Perry is a once in a lifetime singer and performer with decency as a human being to go with it. Your sold on ticket sales! Tour, tour, tour, sell out stadiums! Burn out Steve at any cost so long as you are touring and making money! You failed to see that Steve was your ticket and that is your Journey now.. I can understand exactly what he meant by not feeling he was a " part of the band", sure he was " in the band" but not a part of it, he was driven, he was talented he took control over the type of music he thought was the best for the band, and it was OK for a while until he got sick of their tantrums and backstabbing and needed to take care of his health , mentally and physically.

Steve is gone from Journey forever. I have accepted that and I don't blame Steve for his reasons. Steve is doing Steve now. He has a family of his own and a life of his own. He is financially in a stable place now and he has left us all a legacy like no other. I wish him well and all the happiness in the world! May God bless you and your family Steve! Thank you for all the wonderful and becareful memories! Forever a fan!!! :):):)

Yeap totally agree with Steve Perry Journey became known because of Steve Perry and man he got sick been through the same thing its min 6weeks physical not to mention emotional. And Neal Schon said from beginning he wasn't to keen on Steve until the girls the height the money then it was okay well news I won't listen nor buy a new Journey Album because its not Journey. So Neal Schon your lack of gratitude to Steve Perry for getting your band a name shows pissed Journey fans off. you could tour call it anything Steve asked kindly. I'll buy Steve Perry's albums but NO new Journey and I don't blame Steve done dirty you owe him for everything you own he made you money because your band was nothing before and nothing now. ROCK ON STEVE PERRY YOUR #1 FAN

Linda Derry I totally agree with you. SP didn't owe them anything but Journey owe everything to SP. Before SP, no radio wants to play their songs and their records are not selling. After SP join Journey, they records sold millions. I don't like Journey without SP.

The band was so fortunate to find two frontmen (Steve Augeri & Arnel Pineda) to step in after Steve Perry’s departure. 😇🙏❤️👍 The band Journey 1977-1987 was pure magic !

Who's voice is heard on the radio and ballpark still today? That's right, Steve Perry's! Nuff said fake journey.

There are a lot of bands who have parted ways with their singers. Motley Crue, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, just to name a few, but there is a certain something about those line-ups, that when a certain member of the band, primarily the singer, especially if that singer is a major contributor of the bands songs, that creates a sort of magic in that band that cannot be truly replaced. Motley Crue isn't Motley Crue without Vince Neil, Van Halen isn't right without DLR, etc. Another prime example of a band, I feel, that should just retire as a group, is The Eagles. I am sure that many of us are sad at the news of Glenn Freys' passing, but, The Eagles without Glenn, can never stand. Journey may continue, they may even experience a minor amount of success, but it will NEVER have that magic they had with Steve Perry.

Exactly. People complained Steve Jobs was controlling too, but I would say Apple was also quite the success both the first time and the second time when he returned because he was a control freak. But you need an intelligent, successful, control freak at the helm or things get ugly. Maybe it's a "Steve" thing. :)

You are right, they can't begin to understand unless they've had back problems or something serious. 5 years ago I had severe back pain from a disk and it is unbelievable endless, scary, pain for over a month, I feared I'd never be able to go back to work but am fine now and no repeat. Wait until one of them gets something similar, then (too late) they'll understand where Steve was coming from with everything that went down.

It is a travesty that the world has missed out on the music that could have been created if greed, short sightedness and ego hadn't prevailed with the band members. How many more songs that would have been interwoven into the fabric of marriages, graduations or special events.The guitar was the backbone but without the heart of Steve Perry the band isn't the same, the songs aren't the same. Ultimately the band missed out on millions and the world missed out on what these talented people could share, the music magic was that collection of people, not one or two of them. Most likely mistakes were made on each side but as Brian May said { this is not verbatim} when a band finds that spark, that thing that's very special and speaks to people it needs to be respected because it's rare. The magic was disrespected, so sad. That kind of music had a shelf life and eventually things changed but I believe they could have been making music that could be sold and enjoyed for many years if they could have kept their ego's out of it and taken a break to recharge and renew. Their management has a lot to answer for in this debacle as well, nobody can be creative if they never have a moment to think, are exhausted and in total reaction mode constantly. Fight flight mode does not make good decisions unless you have a car coming at you, otherwise it's a poor life decision maker.

Steve Perry's magnificent voice is an instrument lent to him by the angels in heaven. He's the best to ever do it. Taking Steve Perry out of Journey, and replacing him with another singer is like taking Mick Jagger out of the Rolling Stones, plugging in some other guy, and still calling the band the Rolling Stones. It's an utter embarrassment.

Its funny that Neal Schon said there was a Journey before Steve and there could be a Journey after Steve.. Well I hate to tell you but Steve Perry is who made Journey what it is today and without him there is not and never will be a Journey again!

This really helped me understand the whole situation better. Steve had the hidden drive of years of struggle, and came into his own as an artist because he was with equal giants. Youth and ambition caused him to excise members who were seen as weak links, when they weren't. Then later payback came when the pillars of life slipped. It's an unavoidable tragedy that always effects great artists. The gift overshadows and suppresses every other area of your life . In the end, when all is gone or has been thrown away, the gift recedes. At the Hall of Fame, the dust was swept away. Arnel needs a time of restoration. The window is there.... I think only Frank Sinatra managed the comeback to a certain degree. Journey now would have to be new music of men of experience. I think it would be incredible, but would the fans allow them to move on........?

My husband Patrick just had a total hip replacement done on June 21st. This was something he has needed for the past 3 or 4 years. He made his decision to get it done in April. Hip surgery is a major decision. Look up Total hip replacement on KZbin and you wouldn't want to get it done either. So I can relate to Steve's decision on finding other alternatives. My husband had no more choices. He was bone on bone. Lots of pain he was in. Every thing happens for a reason in life. I'm glad that Steve Perry took care of his health and is in a better place now.

Have you ever had a friend who always wanted to control where you went, what you ate, and when you did it? Control freaks come in all shapes and sizes. I love Steve Perry's voice. I loved the band when they were together. I support them biting the bullet and moving on. The band existed before him and after. That is the point Neal was making. I wish they could have stayed together though. It was iconic.

Neal Schon didn't do anything on his own that was anywhere near as huge as Journey. He has a lot of bitterness & jealousy toward Steve Perry, probably because he knows the until Perry joined the band, Journey was NOTHING. It's a simple equation---before Steve Perry, they got nothing, after Steve Perry they became rich & famous with tons of hit albums and songs. All they had was Journey, and that's why they tried like hell to get a lead singer that sounded like Perry. If they were such great musicians on their own---and they are great musicians---they could have formed a whole new band, write all new music, gotten their own lead singer and been as successful as Journey was. But they knew damned well that Steve Perry was the ticket seller there---and they hated that.

This band disgusts me (mainly Neal & Jon), I felt so bad for Steve Perry, he didn't want the band to replace him. What the band did was truly sick, selfish and greedy. The only reason Neal and Jon booted Steve out the band was truly out of jealousy and wanting full control of the band! Bad bad bad decision Neal and Jon!!
