Such deferment is common in archaeology. I was part of a dig in Germany and visited numerous sites in Denmark. On several sites were areas set aside for future generations. This was done with the expectation that, yes, future technology and techniques would gain better results. @LordSesshakuКүн бұрын
@@sisigs4820 I don't, I just know that nothing about this is unusual for this type of discoveries. For instance no one dares to open the tomb of China's First Emperor. And not all parts of Pompeii and Herculanum are excavated. First of all, because the amount of stuff you can excavate in a rich site can take decades to study, and second of all because it's not just "let's dig here". It's a slow costly process, and once you do it you also have to procure the finance for storing in perfect temperature-light-humidity conditions. It's not just a one time investment, it's a continous investment, and archeology just doesn't have as much funding as you might think. So they tend to take it step by step, let's see what we can find and learn from this part, and then if we get funding for/from a museum and a lab we move to the next part, and so for. Also, the current protection of historical artifacts can complicate things. Before europe would just steal and take them to their countries, now countries are more protective of their historical artifacts, but that also means you're more dependent on getting investment for facilities in poorer countries. It's not that I am enlightened, it's just that they don't know the field they're talking about, it's a simple as that.

Gobekli Tepe and the other similar ancient sites do not prove "an ancient lost civilisation" (yet). But certainly they proved that the history was interpreted wrongly. This is because of the weakness of the scientists. And that weaknes is relying on material evidence too much. Archeologists and all other scientists want solid materialistic evidences. And time is against this need. Only certain materials in certain conditions last long. Because of this, we can find lots of things which belonged to the cultures who worked with stone, had a dry climate like Egypt. So we can find so much things from ancient Egypt or Rome because of the materials they used were long lasting. But we can't find lots of things of the ancient people who used biologic materials like wood, animal skin etc. I think, before Gobekli Tepe there were people who had a hunter-gatherer or pastoralist life style with a great knowledge and abilities. Modern science underestimates the people with hunter-gatherer life style. I think some of those ancient hunter gatherers had achieved great successes. And after a while some of them decided to use long lasting materials to build things. So by the time they created sites like Gobekli Tepe. When you accept the fact that hunter gatherers, pastoralists, nomads can achieve big things; you realize that Gobekli Tepe etc. are not so incomprehensible things.

@aglobackwardsКүн бұрын
Also the problem is the cost of preservation, not the excavations itself. It would be ginormous! Once you uncover a site from underground it starts to erode super quickly and you have to constantly preserve it. Underground it is safe for millenia. That’s why currently there is a policy among heritage protection bodies not to uncover things “just for the fun of it”, cause we lost many precious sites this way before. If there is no legitimate interests and long-term plan for funding of preservation, you only uncover what you can keep up. The guy only sees conspiracy theories, not understanding the wider context of the thing. Geobekli Tepe is nowhere unique in not being excevated, probably even it’s less excavated because it’s so precious! The Turkish Government would have to secure enourmous funda every year for the preservation, and lets be honest, it’s not going to bring in money like the Akropol in Greece, not a very touristy site or location.
