In today’s video I am going to show how the scapegoat survivor brings their painful beliefs and their earlier sacrificed developmental goals into therapy. Then I am going to explain how therapy works - whether CBT or psychodynamic - to allow survivors to test and disconfirm these beliefs with the therapist. When these beliefs are sufficiently disproven the survivor will feel freer and safer to resume pursuit of the goals they had to sacrifice earlier in life.

I have a friend that I talk with every other day, and we are each other's therapist. We both work in the field of alternate therapies, she as a yoga teacher and me as an energy/body worker. Since we began this 'chat', we have both been able to work through the challenges of being scapegoated and now to challenge the mandates of our tormentors. We almost always land on the same page, on the same day, via different pathways. I have found the free-flowing way we speak to be the best course of therapy for us of both. I have tried therapy on multiple occasions unsuccessfully. I also listen to you regularly Jay, and a couple of other therapists who have a slightly different way of delivering their wisdom. You, however, are my all-time favourite. Your voice is soothing and the information you provide is perfect for me. I love your work and am eternally grateful that you provide so much help/assistance freely, as one of the mandates from my mother was, though shall not prosper (be better/more than her). Today's information is as usual perfectly timed. This is my latest challenge. With Love K

Thank you Jay for an example that was so familiar that I finally understand so many aspects of what you were conveying. Tears of recognition, gratitude, and mourning for not receiving that understanding from others including myself. 😢

I’m totally stumped when it comes to finding “safe” people. Why am I still being singled out by cruel people who attempt to bully and silence me? Even my last psychologist became competitive with me and made fun of me when I came to a session seeking help when my sister was due to fly in for our mother’s 90th birthday. 😔

Some therapists are quite abusive in their ignorance of anything other than the concepts they understand, or have worked thru personally. If they haven’t done their own personal work they know enough to be dangerous. Always be selective, trust your perceptions and instincts always. Narc survivors have a heightened sense of danger.

I totally identify and I’m so sorry I know how torturous and painful this is.. All I can advise is that up your self-care dramatically. The kinder you are to yourself, the less these people can get access to us. I agree with the previous poster too.

Your theories sound good at a distance; yet finding a worthwhile therapist and a healthy community is practically impossible in my experience of life. Thus we are all on youtube, repetitively seeking the only measly crumbs we can get. Nevertheless, thanks for the vids. My experience of therapists is that they just want to get paid.

This guy gets it. Its very hard as an unhealthy person with bad habits to even know where to start. My belief is that I will never actually get the help I need and I am currently falling through the cracks of the system. If you tell someone that they just up your meds. RIP anyone with a heart.

Okay, but.... How do I tell my therapist this is what I need from them? And if they reject me and think I'm lying? Do I just have to keep trying to find another? There are things on my chart as a woman (that aren't rven true) that hold me back from finding someone who believes me when I actually start talking. They make me feel so unsafe and tell me things like "Are you sure you just can't handle the word no?" Who TF says that to their client? What am I even supposed to do about bad therapists.

I don't know what's going on with your video, but I'm uncomfortable watching with all of the glitches. My paranoia wants to think that there is subliminal messaging going on. I think you have good info, and I think you should clean up your video presentation. I really want to listen. But I can't now.

Hello, I am somewhat of sound mind, and I can assure you that these glitches do not refer to any special messages, as this man has had a long career of helping others, he is a safe person Sometimes I feel myself that things mean more than they do, it is usually a sign I need to connect to a safe friend and get succour from them May you be well

I didn't notice because I listen to videos while I do something else. If it's something that doesn't need to be watched, I only listen, because my eyes get sore from staring at screens too long. Maybe that would work for you, too?
