Absolutely right, Johnny is a master of his craft, I will say this as a guitarist. And those who criticize him are simple stupid people. Slackers and mediocre people.

Guthrie Govan, maybe? I heard him play always comfortably jazz, rock, metal, country (listen to the video where he mimics the winners of a guitar magazine poll...). anyway I love Johnny
@carlroyer39957 жыл бұрын
More versatile? The guy does jazz, bluegrass, chicken pickin' country (probably the best in the world at that), and Van Halen licks Eddie would be envious of. Les Paul thought he was good enought to have him come to the Atrium in NYC when he was alive to trade some jazz licks...

Example of the progression of guitar music! His assimilation of all genres and ability to have fun with an inexhaustible arsenal of licks is amazing to watch. When people compare players from the past, while great and seemingly groundbreaking, watch how it looked like work for them while the advanced players like Johnny and so many others these days make it look so effortless! I'm in awe.

John ______ Hey, no need to get smart. Do some serious comparison sometime and you'll see that his guitar prowess is something they would have aspired to. I'd pass him up in a second to see those guys if they were still around because they were original and did some fine writing. Johnny is a mechanic but of the best caliber. Btw it's "Feat not feet". Roy was one of the truly quintessential. Almost philosophical true bluesmen that was a. Lesser known in the public but anyone who was a. Real. All time great. That Buchanan had a sense for the. Common chord. But musically he was right on the top shelf of landmark. Players. We all have come to know so well He was a trend setter. An innovator. And advocate for young pickers. All hats off before so great and. Sullen a man he was We must bear the burden of our respective crosses. But. As absolutely transcendent and majestic. His playing was a. Place high upon the rising winds with the spirit birds. And that Segway to a panoramic opening up to the horizon of the plains and. Mountain. . this guy guitar playing is fantastic, i wish there was a second guitar player right up there on stage playing ALONG with him. Two guitar players (Stradlin & Slash, Richards & Wood, Young & Young, Moore & Gorham, etc) that play off of each other can be magical in a way that one guitar player can never be, even if his name is hendrix.

"lame ..."? Speaking from experience we pickers are constantly raising the bar and that's why there are so many fantastic young players out there - Johnny Hiland is a stellar example of someone who sets the bar for all others to follow, and just like Gaines, King, Rossington, and Collins did way back 40 some years ago. The Skynard pickers were hardly average players by early seventies standards. I love Johnny's adaptations of Gattons hybrid picking. Clear as a bell!
@britvox95z8 жыл бұрын
Well said. It always amuses me when some people say there will never be another guitarist as good as Jimi Hendrix, completely ignoring the fact that guitarists today have had 45 years to follow his example and raise the bar he set.
@toucantango18 жыл бұрын
It is Jimi's innovative aspects that keep him on the elevated perch.Put Jeff Beck in that category.Sounds that people had never heard out of an electric guitar were introduced by those two in the late 60's.
