While I tend to agree with you, you don't know the situation. She may have a disability, ex may have agreed to alimony instead of property or business being split up. My co-worker originally had alimony for 5 years; the court extended it permanently because of her age and diminished capacity for earnings. Ex could well afford it.

Editing to add ; The Defendant already starts off lying. First she says "I have four minor children" and then she says "I don't get child support, all the children are grown up." Which is it?! She doesn't work, lives off the allimony she receives, doesn't have the money to pay the vet BUT has money to buy a puppy. And her defense is "We're family. We're supposed to help each other out." Word of advice ; If family asks you to borrow family and they tell you "It's what family does", know that you will NOT receive your loaned money back.

I don't like to make suppositions about all someone's life based on such a small clips, but this does look like a sad situation. The son married someone with lots of kids and the parents likely weren't all in on that and since she doesn't work but still gets money, they feel she can pay back. I don't really sense true anger or animosity here, I think the dad just wants the son and daughter to know they're adults and if they get an adult loan, they have to pay it back.

My buddy been paying alimony well over 25 years for his ex and her boyfriend to live in a gated community in Simi Valley , he paid for the house the cars and his kid until they aged out. She had a fit when she stopped getting the child support because that meant she had to get a job. He still pays the alimony to her and his husband in law as it is what he calls her boyfriend. At this point she probably will never married him because it is a substantial amount my friend pays every month. He will probably die before she ever does marry or die.
