Painter and decorators i spoke to advised me to never use pva to seal surfaces you intend to paint... i was told to use a decent primer and paint like zinsser 123 & permawhite or glixtone fungi shield.... I opted to use the zinsser product in the downstairs shower room which has no window and relies on an extractor fan for ventilation... almost 2 years on and the ceiling is still 👌

I wouldn't paint a ceiling with an exterior product personally. The key thing is here that the paint finish has a sheen. Bathroom emulsion has a sheen, someone I know accidentally painted a ceiling with oil based gloss paint.... worked a treat!!

I would use cover stain, and only on the stain itself. When you repaint, the paint over the cover stain will take longer to dry, don't be concerned 👍

If you just do over the shower sand down the edges so there's a smooth / sloped transition of the painted surface and the scraped surface, if that makes sense.

You can get this done in a day and shower the following day.... literally feel with your hand if/when each stage is dry. I would estimate, in ordinary conditions that you shouldn't have to wait any more than 2 hours before the next step.

Just commenting again because it’s now been 7 months, ceiling of our massive bathroom still looks ace, and revisited the video as I’m finally getting time to sort the window re-seal and painting the walls. I couldn’t find the mould remover product mentioned so used vinegar instead a couple times over, in lieu of the product in the video. I’ll probably do fewer coats of glue on the walls as there isn’t any mould but will definitely have to find a video on adding some plaster around the window! We also layered more insulation above the bathroom to help with the ceiling mould, and we scrape water off the shower tiles/door after every shower. Hope this helps!!!

@JBTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi, the skirting may be turning yellow if it was painted using an oil based paint, not sure about the ceiling, may be water damage. As long as there is no damp, the 123 primer will whiten those areas up no doubt. Make sure you top coat ceiling with an appropriate bathroom paint. 👍

I know nothing about this but my question is even though you’re cleaning The outside of the wall wouldn’t it be better to replace the sheet rock because you don’t know what is actually on the inside of the wall?
@Simon-pl2zi12 күн бұрын
This is what happens when people don't leave the window or the shower door open after every shower. After removing the mold, because the shower ceiling is so low, I would have applied Zinsser Mold Killing primer because it contains very strong biocide and bonds hard to the surface. Then I would have applied Zinsser 1-2-3, which is brilliant for bathrooms because unlike oil/shellac primers, it breathes, and doesn't form moisture droplets on the topcoat surface. The main issue with these jobs often the primer isn't given enough time to dry, before top coating and people are showering in it too soon. So the paint is compromised from the get go.
