Please keep in mind, audio workstations depend largely on if you are mastering pre-recorded audio (Mastering Pre-Recorded Audio or bouncing Sample libraries to raw audio can run on 24 or 32 GB, maybe 64GB in some cases) or are using sample libraries. I am the latter camp and my windows usage with REAPER on an orchestral template is 48 gigs alone. I intend to expand and I know that Macs use slightly more ram at idle and Logic Pro uses about 25% more memory than REAPER Does which means I may need more than 64GB of ram to do music production. I was originally eyeing an 14 Core M3 Max Macbook Pro with 96 GB and 1TB internal for 4200 bucks, but the M4 models did away with 96 GB of ram which increased price for me because I only needed 96 GB, not 128. Also it doesn't make sense that the Mac Mini can have 64GB ram with its M4 Pro, but the Macbook Pro can't have that configuration unless you pay for the top end max chip.

For me, the 13-inch iPad Pro with the M4 chip has completely replaced my Mac, which I eventually sold. I still keep a Windows PC for gaming, as Windows remains the dominant platform for PC games. Beyond that, mobile devices have taken over tasks I used to perform on laptops. The iPad’s design offers a simplicity that traditional PC operating systems lack, yet it doesn’t feel limiting. With cloud services now available for various tasks, an iPad meets the needs of most people, alongside a smartphone, of course. Ah yes we know it well. We had it for a while and returned it. Its an extremely high quality laptop. Feels like a really nice bit of kit when you hold it. Everything about it is super premium. As I recall, the reason we didn't make a video about it was that we felt a) it was too expensive for most people (at least at the price it was being sold at that tiem), b) we felt the Core Ultra 9 likely couldn't be effectively cooled in the chassis and would run warm c) Other more interesting laptops were arriving at that time that we needed to cover e.g. Qualcomm. It is a very nice laptop though.

How much worse is the 12MP webcam on the M4 Macs compared to the 1080p webcam on previous Macs? It seems counterintuitive, but the 12MP center stage camera apparently is worse than the 1080p web cam of the previous Macs because of the center stage processing, meaning that the 12MP takes picture of the entire room and then digitally crops the person to keep him/her in the center. So only a portion of the 12MP camera is used on the centered person, and the actual total pixels used to show the person in the center is less pixels than the previous 1080p camera. In other words, the image created is a digitally zoomed and cropped picture with less than 1080p pixels, so the image is more blurry and noisy. It is not like the entire 12MP of the camera is all used on the image centered, the 12MP sensor is used to take a picture of the entire room, and since the camera does not physically move to center the person but just digitally crops the 12MP image to show the centered person, maybe only 1MP is used on the image of the person centered. The picture quality is even worse when you have your picture centered and the picture of your desk is also shown at the same time, since the 12MP camera has to be divided between cropping you and also cropping the desk picture.

That's a feature every able-hearing user can actually appreciate! Very few reviewers are actually doing side-by-side speaker comparisons, and some of the competition is severely lacking in speaker quality The notch lives in no-mans land where a gap used to be between the menus and the date/time and function shortcuts. I thought I would hate it, but the truth is you don't even really notice it and it practically disappears when viewing full screen content. Should I go for the M4 Pro with 14-core CPU and 20-core GPU with 48Gb or would be 24Gb enough (I would save up to 400€ for this upgrade which I think is ridiculous expensive as I’m buying it in Europe and we pay much more because of taxes)? Hey Josh, I would like to get a quick suggestion. I work in IT and study Computer Science. My main workload on the Macbook would be studying and Coding since I want to transition to a Backend Developer Role. In terms of CPU should I go with the M4 or the M4 Pro? My Configuration would also include the default memory and an upgrade to 1 TB storage. PS: Keep up the great content. Always a pleasure.

Big fan here. My dilemma is keeping M3pro 14 18/512 or upgrading to base M4 or M4pro. In what ways is base m4 better than M3pro? Recalling pros are better batt life, center stage, chip, 1000nits. Cons smaller memory bandwidth (m3pro-150gb, m4-120gb)...m4 has only 1 fan?

@@vincentpohlmeier-5421 Just saw greek bench 6 single core base m4 is almost 4,000 and m3pro is 3000 approx & multicore base m4 is 15,288 and m3pro (11 core) is 14,043. This plus other pros makes m4 a better option, imo

Thank you guys for this video!! I actually just bought a 14 in. MacBook Pro m3 max with 14/30 GPU & 36 ram for video editing but I did notice it using a lot of memory and gets warm already on the trackpad...I'm wondering if upgrading to an MacBook m4 pro chip with 14/20 GPU & 48 ram would be a worth upgrade for video editing? I see you recommended the Max chip but it only comes with 36 gb ram. I wasn't sure if it's better to have a MAX chip with a little more Gpu or take a little loss with GPU and get some more ram and the newest m4 pro chip? Thanks in advance to anyone who has advice!! ☺️🙏🏼

@ thanks for letting me know! I look forward to your reviews! 🙌🏼My return window ends tmro so will probably return and hope the M4s don’t have that issue. Do you think an m4 pro with 48 ram would potentially be sufficient for video editing, or would an Max chip configuration be a better option? Thank you! ☺️
@JustJoshTechАй бұрын
@JustineCooksVegan I would get a max chip for sure for the 2 media engines. I doubt you need more than 36gb memory for video editing

Good timing, having spent yesterday evening and this morning reviewing the options, I agree with the review, the only unknown: what killer ML apps will need the 48G of memory. I can well imagine real time feedback that depends on a "large" in memory local model.

To be honest I ONLY watched your video about the new M4 MacBook until now, I can only trust you other videos might be good but I'd like to not see nonsense about apple everyone says just for getting views.

I think Apple made a mistake in the press release regarding the RAM for the M4 Pro chip. Similar to the mistake they made with the Mac mini in saying that it was able to support 8K120. That was wrong.

Oops, now you’ve just made me think twice about the configuration I was just (Josh) about to order. I thought the absolute best deal for me was the MB Pro with 14/20, 48GB memory and a 1TB SSD… Then Sierra (right? Nor Sarah..) stated the Pro Max with the 14/32, 36GB memory would be best for video editing. So now you gotta help me. This is of course a more expensive option but I’m upgrading from an M1 Mac Mini because I realized I need a laptop after all. Since I usually buy a machine that’ll last me long, and I’m editing video a lot, it would be a thing to do. But my editing is not more than 2-3 cameras 4K footage and no fancy effects, and I’m also editing photos in various apps (no Adobe products) where I noticed my M1 Mini (w.16GB memory) struggled frequently. So is the GPU that significantly better in the Max (at 14/32) compared to the Pro (14/20) for me? The reason I’m still trying to play cheap(er) is that I also need to get a Deck Link (4HDMI card) and an enclosure to that which is around $900… Thanks whoever finds the time to reply!

You "missed" the M1, you "missed" the M2 etc...what impact did that have on you? What huge changes in CPU needs happened in the software you use? Don't let some youtuber's advertisement video mess with your psyche and make you buy "processor power" that you don't need.
