Millan's 43-acre ranch, his "Dog Psychology Center," is evidence that the Mexican immigrant, who sneaked over the border and once slept under a highway overpass, has come a long way. He's a U.S. citizen now, working on his new series "Cesar Millan's Leader of the Pack," and has two teenage sons. As many as 11 million people per week tuned in to watch him working with dogs that many owners would want to give away on "Dog Whisperer."
But three years ago, his life started to fall apart: His beloved pit bull Daddy died, days later his wife of 16 years phoned to tell him she wanted a divorce, and his relationship with his two sons soured as they blamed him for the divorce. And Millan discovered his inattention to his business had left him without a cent

+Sally Olsen My comment was towards Pierre, who thought him trying to kill himself was something he should hang his head in shame. He shouldn't. When you go to that depths as Ceaser, you learn your lowest. Its what you do after you hit that point, and how that experience makes you stronger. Not even sure why you're even commenting on my reply, instead of Pierre's.

This world needs more people like Cesar and his straightforward wisdom. We all lose our way at times, but Cesar was definitely pushed. How sickening that all his positive works made somebody else rich, and left him penniless. How wonderful that he is keeping going now, and I bet he would be just as effective at rehabilitating people. Live long and prosper, Cesar. There are many who love you.

Before people start hating me, I know that youth is not the most important thing. I'm just saying I hope it works out well for him, and his ex -wife will regret she just left him that way. It was tacky to wait until he left town and just let him know on the telephone that she wanted a divorce. Why couldn't she sit down with him, woman to man, and have a civil conversation? I don't know everything about what happened, but I just feel that was very tacky.

He's a brave man for sharing his weaknesses and personal life with everyone and for surviving through the hard times to carry on and do more good work for both the animals and for humans. As far as the footage of him disciplining the dog with his knee...dogs do more damage to each other during a dogfight than any human can do to them with their knee or a smack upside their head to get them to quit their behavior. When dogs want to be aggressive, the only thing they understand to put them in their place is the same aggressiveness a pack leader would show to them...trust me when I say he went mild on that dog. An Alpha dog would have done some serious damage to the other dog to put him in his place, even as far as killing him because he would pose a threat to the pack and the Alpha's position. It's easy to think of dogs as our friends or as furry children, but sometimes people just need to accept that some dogs are not that evolved (much like some humans) and they need to be treated and disciplined like dogs, not spoiled children.

While I like Cesar, the whole Alpha pack leader thing is bull, a dog should be exercised and trained but the term Alpha goes back to wolf and pack mentality and there is where the problem lies. Fact Dogs are not wolves and they do not act similarly. Fact Dogs know we are not dogs so it's silly to pretend like we are one of them by being the pack leader (when's the last time a dog greeted you like it does another dog & sniffs your butt!) Fact Packs do not exist amount unrelated domestic dogs. We should be leaders yes but pack leader no, if you want to be a true leader this should be done in a non violent way without intimidation or domination then your a good dog trainer.
@MissLilRedRooster
@MissLilRedRooster 8 жыл бұрын
+sampfa Actually, pack dynamics do exist in domestic dogs. Watch a group of dogs living together. They correct one another, they sleep in certain places according to the top and bottom dog. There is ways a more dominant dog, and there is a bottom of the pack dog. I've owned several dogs over the years, and they always fall into similar dynamics with one another. Honestly, humans exist that way with one another. That heiracrchy of relationships exist to create structure. Whether that's bad or good is irrelevant, it simply is, and Cesar intuitively feels it and uses it to get behaviors he wants. Humans do it all the time to one another without realizing it; he just puts it to words and teaches it.
@K9JusticeTrue
@K9JusticeTrue 8 жыл бұрын
+MissLilRedRooster It's social communication that you see. It's not pack dynamics. The jury is even out on whether dogs are even pack animals. They only form loosely structured packs when feral, around resources. Like with humans, hierarchy is fluid. Like, you are more respectful to a cop than a peer with no authority. Cesar doesn't intuitively feel it, he bases this on incorrect pack theory, about the "alpha" and having to subdue a dog. I watch my dog, and he can act totally differently with one dog to the next. It's just contextual.

***** Suicidal tendencies are a very serious problem and unfortunately they're also very common. The statistics themselves reveal horrifying numbers, now imagine the numbers that weren't documented and the stories that were never published throughout the entire world?. Overly publicizing this is also a challenge for the media. It could further encourage people with suicidal thoughts to go ahead and do it and it could also promote negativity which could prove to be an influential disaster in the long run. My comment here relates to the topic at hand, which is this video and Mr. Millan's thankfully previous problem.

Cesar's dog Daddy, the pit, was one of the most gentlest dogs I've ever seen. Junior is the same. BOTH were/are pit bulls, the most maligned of dog breeds today, no thanks to dog fighting rings and Michael Vick. I have a pit bull and he's a goofball. I would not trade him for 100 other breeds. He is gentle and loving and goofy. Yet I have no doubt he would protect us if he had to. Luckily, he's never had to. I hope he never does.

ALL dogs are unpredictable. Any moron knows never to leave a child alone with a dog, no matter how gentle. Sorry, but maybe that woman did something to antagonize the dog. I'm sure I don't know and maybe she did nothing. There is a way for humans to behave around a dog that is being aggressive much like a bear. I was treed as a kid one time by a K9 German shepherd that some stupid cop left to roam an open field. I didn't dare move. All ended well, thank God. Broke my curfew that night, got in trouble for that too. I'm still leery around shepherds, so I DO understand. Praying for healing for her.

No they didn't get their expertise from the mail... OR from some farm in Mexico. Most professionals have at-least 2 years of very intensive education before they go into behavior modification and several more years of experience before tackling the serious cases of aggression. The only difference is, they are actually qualified: so they don't need abuse to rehabilitate an aggressive dog.

Abuse? Really? THAT is what you see here? Clearly then, education, intensive or not, doesn't make actual intelligence or good sense after all.. Knowing is only half the battle even with that much schooling. Some people have the knack and don't need the knowledge to get the job done and some with all the knowledge still can't. Go figure. . Knowledge has never been he same as wisdom. You can gain all sorts of learning about the weather, with charts and vocabulary and the whole cycle of precipitation and various clouds and storm indications, but still not have the same to sense to bring an umbrella like some old fool that doesn't know what causes the water to fall from the sky, but isn't standing there soaking wet. .

nonsense. just say no....lol....ok nancy reagan.. Anyone with real experience with dogs know that each one is different. Some can be verbally corrected but others need a firmer hand. If you don't the dog will own you.
@doublestrokeroll
@doublestrokeroll 8 жыл бұрын
***** Actually that makes sense. Dogs that fight a lot are usually NOT alphas. That's WHY they fight.....others sense their weakness and try to take advantage. The fact you show dominance over it verbally and with your actions and it responds is normal. If you watch Cesar you'd know that's what works for him in the VAST majority of cases. True alpha dogs almost never fight because every other dog KNOWS they are the alpha. Those dogs will also try to dominate you. In many cases verbal correction will simply not work. Taps like Cesar gives or use of the choke chain is an effective and proper method of training and establishing leadership. It's the way THEY behave. I always agree that the LEAST amount of discipline necessary should be used, but to say that no dogs anywhere ever need physical correction....well...that's just ignorant, and shows a complete lack of understanding of the biology of the species. And it's a reflection of the "humanization" of an animal by humans. Projecting their "emotions" on to them. It's...quite frankly...ridiculous.
@pyjamakid3982
@pyjamakid3982 8 жыл бұрын
the commonly used weapon by dog lovers in an arguement is the "humanization" of the dog and why "my dog is different" . typical projection just like you said. I think its fairly weak of people to use that as an attack just because they get emotional over something they dont understand. hold up..... ...... lets do some underlining of key words from above.... "attack " , "weak", now it all makes sense. these people are freakin beta's...

+redman masonji For “attacks doing bodily harm,” most dogs are in the single digits. Some are notably higher: Boxers, 48; German Shepherds, 89; Labradors(!), 45. But pit bulls stand head and shoulders above them all with 1970 attacks. But wait, there’s also information about the percentage of the dog population some of the breeds account for, and pit bulls, at .033. Rottweiler’s are far and away the most dangerous breed, followed by Wolf hybrid, followed by Pit bull terrier, Bull mastiff, Akita, Boxer, and Chow. Labradors, German Shepherds, and Great Danes round out the top 10. But even within the top 10 there is a fast and significant drop-off. A pit bull is 10 times as likely to attack a human as a German Shepherd. A Rottweiler is 13 times as likely to attack as a Boxer. Taken on its face, the statistics show that the top few breeds are indeed much more dangerous than all other dogs, per INDIVIDUAL animal. Together, pit bulls, Rottweilers, and Wolf hybrids account for 77% of attacks
@jaegerthedane3245
@jaegerthedane3245 8 жыл бұрын
+redman masonji that induce bodily harm. But wait, there are two big problems with these numbers. First, they don’t take into account total populations. They compare breeds against each other, but say nothing about how dangerous, statistically, a given animal is. If you’re confronted by a pit bull, what are your chances of being harmed? Or to put it another way, for an individual pit bull, what are the chances that it will bite or kill a human in its lifetime. 1 percent? A tenth of a percent? A thousandth of a percent? It seems crazy to consider banning anything without this information.

Mary lamb - every one of my beloveds hold a place in my heart & each still share a part of my soul. I loved & cared for each one like a parent (as best I knew how at the time) bc they were my family - we shared a family bond in spirit that cannot be broken & I'm lonely without you, projecting that you'll know. My heart physically aches in my stomach, the sorrow flows thru my veins & pumps out tears that sting my eyes & sends shock waves pulsing thru my brain - when I think about what I could've done better if only I'd known then, that alone nearly drives me insane, the deepest pain that won't end. But I hold strong on faith - trying hard thru the instability, hoping my babies know & forgive my inequities, now patiently playing but will be ready n waiting at the door, knowing we'll surely embrace to love there again, then all together forevermore.

He uses a simplistic, outmoded version of pack theory, and intimidation and punishing techniques to suppress behavior. He has charisma, and is entertaining to watch, so people buy it. I've also trained many dogs, including my own Service dogs, and for sports. He lacks true understanding of dog behavior. Scientific understanding.

lechatboote They are INFORMED opinions. What is it you don't like so much? The reason that the "rehabilitation" often starts to fail is because the behavior was suppressed in the first place. Who is "we"? What results? I train protection sport, and obedience, and have my own service dogs. I attend behavioral conferences and education, and work with other trainers to grow and improve. What he does is not at all current, it's based on outmoded dominance theory. And yes, punishment "works", but there are better ways of modifying behavior than what Cesar does.

I like they both don't talk about the divorce, that's showing respect for each other and very good for the kids. My father always told me, if people don't love or accept animals, how they can love other people..? And my father did not like a stray dog at home what i found on the street. Later he was always fighting with him who was the first in the only big chair in the house. Always my dog was winning and that was so lovely, then he let him sleep on his lap...

These so called "Dog Behaviorist", his critics, are jealous of Cesar and what he's accomplished. A lot of them are still using a dog training manual from the 40's. Most of Cesar's techniques go against what's been accepted for decades as "standard practice" for dog trainers. Instead of using Shock Collars, Cages, Isolation, and Choke Chains to solve every problem, Cesar identifies and changes the bad behavior (triggers that enable a pets bad behavior) with the Pet owner.

( like me? ) i have been told time and again i'm amazingly talented with animals in general. but i don't get that crap from reading a book about it. if you know how to read body language then you know how to read pretty much any animal and human . its universal that way. and common sense dictates that if you can understand what a want is then iys much easier to ensure the right behavior knowing that said animal is being listened to. got a Pack that contains 3 cats and a lovely tempered pitbull female who loves her kitties as much as they love her ( oh HELL yeah do the ever!!) and it all was done without milan's help. been doing it long before i even knew of milan come to think about it..:P

I worked with dogs too and the nicer you are to dogs they find it a weakness. He is still just as aggressive as before he just has it edited out because ppl are so fucking sensitive all they see is him hitting a dog and not even realizing it's not hurting the dog. I've been attacked by dogs and sitting there petting a dog while it's attacking you gets you no where except to the bottom of the pack. Ppl (especially stupid Los Angeles ppl that treat their dogs like spoiled children) think that dogs think and feel the same as humans when that's so far from the truth. Biting and hitting and yelling is a way a dog understands where you stand as a part of the pack. If you just pet it and are always nice dominate dogs will see you as beneath them not as a leader. That's just the way they think.

RainBow~RockStar Sorry, but no way out? I love my wife and would be devastated, same with my dog, but the way out would be to date, and adopt/buy a new dog. Every dog will die before you, unless misfortune or age get you, that's part of the deal, they are only here briefly. If you're 30 years old when you get a dog, you pretty much have to figure that day, that you're going to have to watch that dog die, and there's a really good chance that you'll have to decide which day it happens, due to end of life suffering. They rarely fall over dead, or simply fall asleep, never to wake up. No idea what happened with his wife, but life goes on. I am a trainer myself, watched Cesar, &used many of his methods prior to his even having a tv show. Any study of dog behavior, pack behavior, pack mentality, shows these methods to be correct. With an adult aggressive dog, biting human or inter-species fighting, The highest form of correction, used effectively&Correctly, ONE time, for the most severe offense, is the most effective. Many corrections over&over for the same offense is not effective- its the definition of doing the same thing over&over expecting a different result. If Cesar Millan isn’t your cup of tea, the original training counsel of The Monks of New Skete, or any type of Schuntzhund work, wont be, either.

I think Cesar Milan is awesome. I'm glad he found someone to be by his side. He's came so far, and he's got the intelligence to do it again, and he will. He's already gave a whole lot of advise on how people should act around dogs. What I don't think he's realized is I'm sure there are people like me who applied some of this advise to our every day lives. For instance, be positive, walk with good posture by keeping your shoulders back, and so much more. I had cancer with 1 to 0 percent chance to live, but I stayed positive through it all, and had a lot of people praying for me from all over the U.S.A.

The poor guy was vulnerable and grieving, give him a break. The loss and rejection of a wife you can just about deal with, but the loss of his beloved Daddy and his boys, terrible, just terrible. Warning, I don't half yak on... You might want to put the kettle on. Personally, I spent over 13 years working with and training dogs. Every day I walked packs averaging 10-12 dogs and on occasion enjoyed the company of up to 17 very well behaved dogs and all of them were walked off the lead (leash). The laws are very different here in the UK. I'm not saying those numbers were ideal, but it was the set up of my business that I didn't count numbers, I just required all of my dogs listen to me as their pack leader and this way I could keep them safe and recall them to heel so as not to intimidate any fellow woodland walkers. I mention all of this only to show that I kinda know what I'm talking about. I believe the kicking of the attacking dog was moooore than appropriate and I'll explain why in a moment, but I think it might help us judge Cesar's actions more fairly if we look at this scenario from the dog's point of view. The dog speaks a language and it is our responsibility to at least learn the basics if we have a hope in communicating to him what level of domestication is required. If we try to learn his language I believe we can view Cesar's bite reaction in a whole different way. Don't get me wrong, learning 'dog' is not easy and no I'm not being paid, but if you want help communicating with your animal you should definitely read Cesar's book, Be The Pack Leader. It helped me despite my years of experience with dogs. Learning 'dog' makes for a happy animal and there follows a happy home, unlike the confused and scared animal in this video. It's very sad that the dog was in such a distressed state of mind and it would have taken a long time of humans getting it consistently wrong to get him there. Equally, helping the dog as we saw, is not a problem fixable within the few hours that filming for TV allows. Cesar is great, but even he is no magician. Cesar was bitten, not because he did anything wrong other than approach the dog before it was ready. So, the kick? It is true that the 'correction' needs to match the intensity of the attack or unwanted behaviour (think wolf) and yes, whilst a kick isn't exactly in the book of preferred 'dog language', having his hands (his bite tools) incapacitated he was left only with his feet to work with and you can see in the video, it works and gets the dog's attention ..because he does it right. Any and every dog will ignore a correction it doesn't comprehend, so yell or put him out back all you like, you'll only confuse him. It is important to know that dogs have a very precise language that is critically time dependant and this doesn't come naturally to most humans, hence the success of Cesar's shows. He trains people to speak basic dog. This dog attacked Cesar because Cesar approached the dog's food and this dog views himself as sole top dog, he operates alone as everyone else around confuses the heck out of him. In the wild only the strong survive and by strong I mean the packs who are solid, work together instinctually whilst also knowing their place. Packs fall apart without order and this dog saw Cesar off as an approaching threat from a completely separate pack to his dominant pack of one. Cesar half expected the attack to be a few bites of reprimand and you see him hesitate in the video before taking his hands away (he did not want to reward the dog's behaviour by pulling away, this just reinforces to the dog that bite means they go away) then you see as he realises this is a full on attack and not a correction from a high ranking dog, but by this time his hands were incapacitated and he was left only with his feet. This is still okay folks, the kick, it was measured and notice it connects with the body mass of the chest. As humans we associate the word kick with abuse or bullying, but we are not communicating as a human here, the animal naturally uses his mouth and his teeth to deliver a message, he doesn't shout or reason, after a point dog is a physical language. The kick isn't done to create damage, but used like we would a heavy push back of someone's shoulders who won't stop screaming in your face. Cesar knows his onions folks. The dog stopped the attack after only one correction, one single to the point correction, why, because he spoke dog and the dog understood. Going back to the video, (sorry folks I'll wind it up soon 🙊) the fact that he was screwed over by his people on the business side of things clearly shows us where the man's heart lays, in the rewarding goodness of helping people get the best from their amazing animals. I can't fault that. Okay, I'm done. Yes, finally.

I love Cesar, I always have. Whatever he does with dogs, I believe he knows what he's doing. He may have defended himself against a dog, but he's never kept the grudge. He says that dogs live in the moment, so when the bad moment is gone, and he has survived the attack, why keep the grudge - so he's adopted the labrador who bit him, to save her from being put down. He's worked with abused dogs who were to be euthanised and saved many, many lives, adopting the most difficult cases. Why would he create that ranch otherwise? For the dogs nobody else would have. I loved your show, but having 2 elderly pups of my own, one with Cushing's Disease, and one who died last year--there were three-from the same disease, I had very little time to watch television. I wish you the best of luck, and I know anything you set your mind to, you will succeed. Because you have so much compassion and love for others. I feel it was the humans in your life that let you down, not the other way around. Apparently, they did not share your great compassion and drive to help dogs in need. Thank you so much for all you do every day for the animals and all the animal lovers of the world!

Why is it that the mainstream media always puts in footage of the worst possible scene when they report on someone who has made it. I know they like to make a person popular and then tear them down later; they're control freaks I guess. They want to shape the people's minds on most subjects. Course it is now expected of NBC. I have watched scores of the Dog Whisperer and the only one that did make me cringe a bit is the one they chose to show in this video. I Watched the show and I don't see that he did anything as bad as it looks. When he touches a dog in training, the touch is not to hurt and not hard enough to hurt, but it snaps the dog out of the state of mind that is bad. When he 'kicked' that dog it was not hard. You don't hear the dog yelp. Cesar was trying to change the dog's attitude but even Cesar will tell you it was too late for that. Second, he was trying not to have his hand bit off! !

If Cesar had to be somewhat aggressive with a few dogs, but saved tens of thousands, and whatever number his shows will save in the future, by simply being a calm and assertive leader for a dog, then I'm fucking fine with that. Many people just brutalize dogs for fun, or for money on dog fights, but yeah, let's just rip on the famous guy because he was a bit more aggressive than usual.

Yeah ok. People who are criticizing him for kicking a dog that bit him, why don't you think about what you would do in his shoes. A dog that bites just from MOVEMENT! He just moved and Holly bit him and if you were in his shoes you wouldn't be petting the dog and saying "Oh good girl," when the dog was biting and having a hold on your hand. Your in defense mode at that point. And the dog still could've been put down just because of a bite.

It's absolutely great to see Cesar bouncing back. He's a realist and when it comes to handling dogs and he doesn't try to anthropomorphise them. Thus when the dog didn't let go of his arm his only option was to defend himself with a kick, absolutely normal and wise. If his survival instinct hadn't kicked in (no pun intended) I would have said that he shouldn't be in that line of work.

Richard Davis the news talked about it quite a bit back then; Cesar was touring Europe when, one day, his wife unexpectedly called him on the phone to announce her divorce; his two sons kinda blamed him for that, which made him feel worse about it, then he found out that he was almost bankrupt since he hadn't been personally taking care of his finances plus, on top of that, one of his most beloved dogs called Daddy had recently passed away; so because of all these things together he felt like his life was ruined and that he was a failure, so he got depressed and one day he tried to commit suicide by swallowing a mix of pills, but he was found in time (I think by one of his sons) and in that moment Cesar said something like "bring me to Daddy, I wanna die next to him", but his son called an ambulance so they were able to save him; after a few months his focus even with dogs started coming back, he overcame depression, found a new partner and came back on the scene

Cesar kicked holly who had his hand gripped in her mouth, not because it wasn't hurting but to simply "interupt" the dog's mindset in that moment in order that it let go. One thing I do wanna know though is how come when/if you've ever seen footage of a dog attack with its jaws locked in biting mode that it still doesn't let go, even though it's being whacked on the head or body with sticks or branches or something? Was Cesar's kick really that hard?

Depends on the breed of dog, some dogs doesn't faze, pitbull would have hung on, A wolf hybred would have hung on, Doesnt mean they are bad dog, Just scared and aggressive, Most dogs can be taught not to be aggressive, Takes a time and love,Good training can go along ways, I've worked with a lot of dogs my self, Been bitten sevrale times, Never have I put a dog down for that, Had a wolf hybred go for my throat, She hung on pretty good, What happen she had a hold of my Rotty , Took my hubby and I to get her loose, She ripped the side of his face off, we used water, we hit her, we tried to pry her mouth open, Nothing worked, My Rotty was so good ,He just stood there taking it, He was all muscle at 185lb, but I told him to stand down and he did , Not once did he try to defend him self, My hubby was punching her in the face, Nothing would make her turn loose, Finally I told my hubby to kick her in the chest, still didn't work, Then I said kick her in the face and jaw, at first that didn't work, I said you have to kick her with all your strength, He didn't want to, But our Rotty was loosing a lot of blood, So finally he kicked her with all his might, she finally let go, I grabbed her and threw her on the ground, that's when she went for my throat, She put 2 puncture wounds in my neck, she let go right away, But she did have a good hold, She wanted to be the Alpha, My hubby wanted to put her down, I said no, She's a good animal that was abused by her previous owner and kept in a small kennel most of her life, took some time but she became a fantastic companion animal,She had to learn to be part of the pack and that my hubby and I are the alpha, we took her on a lot of pack trips with our horses,spent alot of quality time with her, Taught her to help bring the horses in from the pasture, Gave her life meaning, she just didn't stay in a pen couped up, we worked her every day, A way to get out her pent up energy, She never really liked dogs much, she was almost full blooded wolf, her tail never curled up, likes dogs do, she tolerated the other dogs, she kennelled with our other wolf, Got along well with him, He got along well with all my other dogs, She learned how to behave around him, Plus our contstant working with her, We had her for 12 years then she passed away, She turned out to be one of our best family members, I'm glad I never did put her to sleep, all it takes is love and respect, Give them a good reason to be part of the family, we live out in the country , No close neigbors, so we had a perfect home for her,

no dog's jaws lock. with enough force they would let go. but any dog can have determination to get their own message across. The kick may have been a little more forceful than normally, but that's because the dog was in attack mode and he was trying to snap her out of it without really hurting her in any way. Lockjaw is not an ability any dog has, its just stubbornness and determination mixed with aggression

We had a Sheltie and took a walk in a wooded area preserved for that very thing. We saw a high school student walking her Great Dane (who she said had never bothered anyone). They sniffed each other and as we started to pull away, the Great Dane grabbed our dog by the throat and started shaking him like a rabbit he had just caught. The owner was yelling and pulling back on her dog's leash, my husband was kicking the dog on the side (where he was standing) and yelling, I was pulling at my own leash trying to get our dog out of the mouth of that huge dog (and screaming all the way through it). So we had 3 people trying different things to get that dog to let go. I am sure some professional would tell us a better way, but when a dog attacks your reasoning skills go out the window. By the way, our dog was OK with a few stitches. He had on a chain collar and the vet said one of the Dane's incisors caught in the chain or he would have torn our dog's throat out. Nice thought. You do what you think will work when a dog attacks. As many people have said before me--these are dogs, not people. They don't think the same way.

I appreciate your reply comment and have no objection really. It proves to me though that any owner always needs to keep an eye on it's own dog in public places, either from attacks by other dogs themselves or an unpredictable flip-out on the part of any one dog. Even the smallest of dogs can bite, which can be still unpleasant or life-changing.

I read somewhere that the Leader's show is gone but he is coming back with a show very similar to Dog Whisperer. I'm glad as I liked DW much better. I appreciate all the repeats of DW as I didn't watch before as I didn't have a dog. When I got mine she was supposed to be about the size of a cocker. If someone tells you to look at a puppy's paws to judge how big they will be, forget that! Ha. My Mickey is the size of a German Shepherd! She was 8 weeks when we got her. My husband and I were in our 60s and she was very active. My husband became ill and couldn't walk very well. Mickey adored him so was getting to be a problem. He almost fell several times. We decided to find her another home, altho I didn't want to. Then I started watching Cesar and training Mickey accordingly. Wow! I trained her in a lot of ways but mostly not to jump on my husband or me. Shortly after that my husband died and I continued to train her using Cesar's methods. Before training her she had put me on crutches 3 times! She just wanted to play, it was never her fault. But after the training and to this day, 4 years later, she is doing well. She helped me with the grieving process when my husband died and when my 39 year old son died suddenly. The way Cesar explains dog behavior has also been helpful in understanding what Mickey wants, why she wants it and how to guide her. It's been a wonderful journey and all thanks to the Dog Whisperer.
