about Will's vocals, on his channel (The Will Ramos) he has one take vocal recordings of a few songs, including this one and to be honest, without all the layering, he sound's even better 😁
@lungfulldrummer89216 ай бұрын
I think the mix sounds better on the one take of this.

I just love how knowledgable you are, JW. I always start off slightly daunted by a 35min reaction video, but time always flies in your company.

Found your channel through Jinjer, and I'm glad to see you're checking out Lorna Shore now too. Would love to see more. I'd recommend "Pain Remains", which is their take on a tragedy in three parts divided into three songs with the subtitles "Dancing Like Flames", "After All I've Become I'll Disappear", and "In A Sea Of Fire". For singular songs, I'd also recommend "Sun//Eater", and if you'd like to hear them with a prior vocalist "Immortal".

Don't apologise for going down the rabbit hole of knowledge. It's a pleasure listening to someone knowledgeble explaining why things are the way they are. I'm here because I'm genuinely interested in music. So, fire away JW...

As someone with a love for all genres, but with metal as my core "sustinence" through my 40+ years of living so far - I just love the specific references you point out and influences you pick up on. They mimic my own musical experiences so well. And then you go and bring it so much further with your superb musical knowledge both in execution and theory, in composition, instrumentation and production. Always a pleasure to watch you reflect, analyze and enjoy!

Will talks about layering in the studio recording. They do not use a vocal backing track live from what I understand
@ammuhautaavaikene1233 ай бұрын
You sir are correct. Seen them 3 times and never used any backing tracks. They used warmup bands singer in 2 songs when i saw them on their own tour, but it was more like a feat. It was awesome!

Lorna Shore aren't my preferred style of metal but I think you'll appreciate both the musical and film storytelling for Pain Remains I-III

Deathcore has had a renaissance in the last 5-10 years. I'm 53, and it's a sub-genre that's absolutely got me by the bollocks and won't let go. It's a genre most definitely worth exploring, if you can handle 'music that's designed to hurt you' (which I really liked BTW) Just as an aside, I also got a bit of Dani Filth out of Will Ramos when I first heard it.
@micahwithabeard6 ай бұрын
"this is intended to hurt us" lol thats spot on. this was Will's first song when he joined the band. it was a good showcase of just how insane Will and Lorna Shore can be. it does a good job of preparing you for their other songs which can be just as intense but usually not as focused on scaring the shit out of their listeners.

This video was incredible because of your knowledge of classical music and the evolution of black/death metal - there is definitely a link there! (I also enjoyed the shout out to Martyrs which is not for the faint hearted). If you are interested in Will's vocals, I would definitely recommend you check out his one takes of either this song, or 'Of the Abyss', it will give you an idea of what he sounds like without the effects. He has also done 2 research videos with Elizabeth of the Charismatic Voice on harsh vocals; one is a laryngoscopy, the other is the more in depth review that followed, including a functional MRI and needles in his throat. Equally, the rest of the band (being the incredible musicians they are) have got various one take play throughs, including Austin Archey (drums) playing in the Meinl studios, and Adam De Micco (lead guitar) and Michael Yager (bass) doing theirs on the bands YT channel. All of them are amazing to watch and incredibly talented

Imagine hearing them for the first time ever live at a Festival. Normally not my style of Metal. But they were opening Nova Rock last year. And Wills first crowl the it started to rain. They blew my mind live!

I have seen Will explain they often use 4 layers for the vocals two center one panned left another right. On first listen I was so overwhelmed by the drums ( newby to metal) but was also fascinated by the “ orchestral” melody because it reminded me of the intro tune to a 90’s Dutch tv show ( Medisch Centrum West, really cringy hospital drama 😂 but after checking it does sound similar to me) Anyway it got me to keep listening and now they are on my favourites playlist with most songs from the “Pain Remains” album “and I return to nothingness” EP Plus Will’s vocal covers of Sleeptoken ☺️ love those.

Just finding this analysis, and I really enjoyed it! I love how much you go into detail! If you haven't checked any of these out yet, Will has some one-take vocal performances on his channel, and the Pain Remains trilogy is fantastic! Definitely going to check out more videos on your channel!

I love the classical elements in the instrumentation. Will gets so much attention and rightly so but the entire band is so talented. Definitely check out some of Will's one takes and his clean vocal covers. He has a couple of Sleep Token covers (he's a huge fan). Also his videos with Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice where they've done testing on Will while he performs some of those crazy vocals. It's absolutely fascinating. I've become a fan of Will and Lorna Shore. I find their music relaxing believe it or not LOL. Will is a human golden retriever puppy.

If you enjoyed this you should check out Deviloof. Amazing Japanese band, that’s mostly deathcore, but they are more playful with their sound. Lyrics are a mix of Japanese and English. Check these tracks: GouZinZanGoku, Libido, Newspeak (short song but you’ll want to look at both recorded and live), Damn, False Self, and Ishtar

After listening many times to this song the chorus has become catchy. Idk how a song so heavy can be catchy. Props to Lorna. Edit: just got to the part where you said the song was in 4 on the floor, my mind was blown. That's why I find it so catchy

As you go down the Will Ramos rabbit hole, you’ll find that he has one of the best clean vocals period. It’s rich and even beautiful at times. We all found out when he started covering Sleep Token last year on his KZbin channel. It shocks a lot of people on their first listen, and a lot of people prefer his take to Vessels.

Haven't seen a Lucio Fulci movie in decades... Luckily you don't have to fear me coming over for a spontanious movie night... unless you are re-joining the EU again maybe 🧐 But you were right being kind of cautious regarding fans when mentioning effects, there are still those who write comments that non of them have been used, denying the obvious. While it doesn't even take anything away from Will's vocal abilities. It's not a live performance but a studio version, and things like the vocal layering simply helps a lot. I now have to check your videos and see, if you've analysed his vocal playthroughs (or the playthroughs of others) or if I may find something new to myself there...

I would like to write you some opinion about the singer, Will R., but I am not a singer. All I know is that he is a really great extreme vocalist, (whitout analysis from Elisabeth Zharoff, who I love). I only recommend instrumental analysis. Great song, great performers. btw. the whole world of musical "dissonance" will remind you of OPETH if you are their fan. I am, so all this "merchandise" reminds me of OPETH 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Analysis you say? Yes! So this popped up on my recommended, and I was going to pass, because while seeing people, unfamiliar, having a breakdown over the breakdown is always amusing, I've been on a music theory kick this week, and I was looking to watch something a bit more substantive... Title says analysis, OK you've got my attention, the video is 35 minutes long? Oooh. So, I've paused just before the 17 minute mark to say, thank you. Thank you! I am but your average KZbin browsing cretin, I know a bit about a bit of stuff, and I love to learn more bits about stuff, and I am so, so appreciative of people who freely share their knowledge, as you are here, and I appreciate that it takes time and work to film, edit and get a video up on your channel. Thank you.

Thank you, dude. Glad you enjoyed it. I had to convert to earbuds due to an ear injury that forced me to stop wearing the cans. If you watch my older videos you'll see that Im usually using KRK monitoring headphones. Hopefully I'll be able to wear them again soon with comfort. The particular earbuds I have are no replacement for the good headphones I have. But they were voted best in class by What Hi-Fi in the UK and are pretty decent for what they are. 👍
