It doesn't matter how often I hear this song, this version, KD Lang's voice brings tears to my eyes. Just extraordinary ❤❤❤

Why she isn't up there with Carrie, Reba, Miranda & the rest is way beyond me!! She has one of the BEST & strongest voices in country music!!!!! Love her!!!! You simply must check out her version of Leonard Cohen's "Halleluiah" at the 2010 Winter Olympics OR her "Hallelujah" at a Leonard Cohen tribute !! Brings me to tears & I am 74!!! btw - did you notice when she took her bows - she looked up & mouthed "Thank you Roy" that broke me down!!!
@KarlaElaine100Ай бұрын
Back then…country music was even more “traditional” than now. K.D. didn’t fit the mold so to speak. That’s not right but it’s the truth. Very few female country artists have comparable voices. Possibly Martina McBride, Leann Rimes, Carrie Underwood and Trisha Yearwood.

One of the most beautiful perfomances I've ever witnessed.

And this was an audience made up mostly of her peers and that really says volumes about that performance. Absolutely one of the world's greatest vocalists and a Canadian treasure. Her Hallelujah version done on the night Leonard Cohen was honored by Canada's Songwriters Hall Of Fame is another lifetime performance ( she did one at the Olympics as well). You might enjoy that one as well. Thank you for sharing.

Great request Ed and great reaction Don! This Roy Orbison song reminds me, I wanted to mention that the great J. D. Souther passed away yesterday at aged 78. You probably know of J D Souther as one of the most prolific songwriters on many songs such as, "Best Of My Love" and "New Kid In Town" for the Eagles. "The Sad Cafe" for Don Henley. “Faithless Love” and “White Rhythm and Blues" for Linda Ronstadt just to name a few. Don, if you decide to, maybe you might want to play J.D. Souther's Orbison-flavored 1979 solo hit single, "You're Only Only" as a tribute to him.

Hi stranger! I've had "You're Only Lonely" on my request list for 2 years. I was afraid Don would think it not quite close enough or within/around the Country genre. It has been one of my favorite songs since the early '80's. I love the musical composition and his vocals! I was indeed saddened by his passing!
@39thalaАй бұрын
@@carolinasbeauty Hi Phyllis, it's been a while, I hope you are doing well! Yes, I was sad to hear of J.D.'s passing too. "You're Only Lonely" is a great song and it has a great Roy Orbison feel. If you requested it, I think the song would be great for Don's Country Heart series if nothing else. I've always thought that several of Roy Orbison's songs have sort of a country flavor to them anyway. And I've always felt J.D Souther's music had a bit of a country feel to it as well. He is after all, one of the recognized pioneers (along with Jackson Brown) of helping to create the 70's country-rock sound that the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt had success with. I recently listened to J.D's acoustic version of "New Kid In Town" (which he co-wrote) from his "Natural History" album the other day and it has a beautiful Country-Latin feel to it. Anyway, listening to K.D Lang's cover of "Crying" spurred me to send Don a gift request for a different song that also has a Roy Orbison / Rick Nelson feel to it. It's a little more country sounding than Crying and it incorporates some steel guitar in the production which gives it more of a country flavor as well.

Hey Don, I can’t thank you enough for welcoming me back to your channel in such a lovely way. You made me feel as though I had never left. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for taking the time to dress up for me as well. Loved your reaction to K.D’s stunning performance. She brought tears to my eyes. By calling the song flawless, you can not leave it out of your 10 and above list.🙂

Excellent! Thanks so much Montauk Ed for this brilliant request! I hadn't seen this version in eons, and boy she nails it! I think Don said flawless, and that's right! I think Roy should get more credit for his writing - he wrote some great songs (hardly anyone knows he wrote Blue Bayou). Thanks Don for the super reaction and the shout out.

@terrywoodyyc Hi, Terry! I actually heard both singers perform Blue Bayou and both hit it out of the park! If Roy doesn't sing them, he knows who can and Linda did the song credit. I hope to request "Running Scared" and/or "In Dreams" soon. Hopefully, Don won't have an issue with reacting to them. I love me some Roy!! Good to see you, as always, in the comments, Terry!

I was going to say "superb", but @dennisking7872 beat me to it. I love all of Roy (The Big O) Orbison's songs. He sang this as a duet with k.d. lang and that was beautiful as well. I have 2 songs waiting to be requested by Roy, but with your blocking chances, Don, I'm cautious about it. I still love Roy's version and believe that at least half of the standing ovation was for the fact that k.d. did his masterpiece justice. Thank you my friend Ed, for this wonderful request and Don, for your beautiful words. Yes, it's a 10.

I remember this surprisingly well. Great stuff. Awesome powerhouse vocals. Fabulous live performance. Such range and so much emotion. Now you need to react to Radney Foster's Tribute recording and video of Merel Haggard's "The Running Kind" from 1994 I believe. It is really good, especially the video. There are two versions though. One of the American Market and one for Europe. The U S one if the better of the two.

KD Lang should be the only other person besides Roy Orbison who should be allowed to sing this song. Get a copy of Orbison’s “Black and White Concert.”
