I'm an older lady. We all had to take Civis as a requirement to graduate. In college we were required to take a class on The Constitution. Oh how things have changed, and not for the better!

We all used to have to take Civics and Economics to graduate, I know, I failed Civics and had to watch my friends walk at the ceremony, go to summer school and then move on to college the next year. Made me work harder and remember that life is hard.

When I was in high school, you could not graduate without a passing grade (C) in U.S.Civics . A literacy test and poll tax were voting deterrents to blacks.

The civics test is for people to vote. Vivek's policy proposal is if you don't pass you can't vote. Personally I like the concept. But I doubt it would fly with a majority

I completely agree with the civics exam to graduate and/or vote. In Georgia, in my junior year, my whole class and I had to take a graduation test that included English, Math, Writing, Science, and Social Studies. You had to pass to graduate, but if you didn't pass the first time, you could retake it. You could also just retake the section(s) you failed the first time.

Legal immigrants to this nation must pass a civics test to prove they understand the systems they are choosing to integrate into. You cannot swear upon a constitution you have never read before, and actually mean it. That is, essentially, all that Vivek has said. He likes the idea of a test, but he was not running on that issue, it was just his opinion.

They are talking aobut how people should have to pass a test that shows that they understand our system before they vote. I don't think anyone is proposing such a thing, but I certainly think it is a good idea. When I was in school, we had Civics classes so we understood the nation's documents and our rights under the Constitution. Kids today don't even know if they are voting for something that would take away their rights or not. Anybody wanting to become a citizen in our country has to pass such a test so why shouldn't it be part of our high school education? The Constitution is a small and concise document easy to read and understand. I don't think it will ever be a law because it is not stated in the Constitution that it is necessary in order for a Citizen to vote. But I do believe Civics should be a required high school course so if you don't pass the course, like any other required course, you don't graduate. It should be part of the GED as well. Obviously this child has been programmed and fed false information, The man is telling the child to go back and actually listen to what he said and why he said it which is correct. Educate, don't humiliate. For this boy to come at somebody with a false statement that he never even really listeed to, regurgitating what someone else has told him, is crazy. Someone has indoctrinated that boy. If he is going to be forming an opinion it is good that he learn early to actually do his research so he can intelligently address the statements and his concerns. Kids should not be involved in politics, they need to just be kids and live free not be part of the division that politics now creates in our country.

I see absolutely no problem with this test at a senior high school level to learn about the voting process and how our voting system works. And learn there's a certain way to calmly address a person on any disagreements or questions they might have and quit being a jack ass.

I listen to Vivek’s podcast. His thing is that service guarantees citizenship. Men are required to sign up for the draft. In order to vote. Women are not he is trying to equalize this in someway service does not mean military service. It just means civil service of some sort, I don’t know what that guy is screaming about. He already has to sign up for the draft. When it comes to a civics text. Citizens should have a basic knowledge of how their country works just like anyone who wants to become a citizen

Vivek proposed that every American citizen should take the same citizenship test that is needed for legal immigrants to gain citizenship. It is a fair ask imo, if you cannot name the systems of government and their checks and balances to the other branches. You are ignorant, those individuals shouldn’t vote as they don’t understand what is needed for progress, ignorant persons vote and react emotionally rather than intellectually with emotion on the back burner. Especially when they feel the quick and often fast fleeting call to action, they make a fuss and then when they don’t get their way, they wait for another tragedy to happen to push their ideology forward again, hoping it resonates with the situation better to gain support.
