A store brand bag of tortilla chips at the local WalMart where I live was $2.29 a bag just a couple months ago. Over the last two months, it went back down to $1.98 a bag (and it's not "on sale"). I think you are partly wrong in your comment...been living in this country for 22 years and what I noticed about (maybe even most of) Americans, is they actually prefer that others do the thinking and making the decisions for them. They like to brag how free they are, yet, have a strong need for BELONGING. Whether to a church, chapter or what ever it might be. For the big part they actually enjoy being "sheep". When did people get comfortable with not knowing anything about a subject but still having an opinion on it? I think you would have to blame this on Oprah Winfrey. She constantly had opinions about things she knew nothing about and routinely argued with experts who knew much more than she did. It was amazing to see experts scared to death to contradict her even when she said idiotic things. Rush Limbaugh did it in a more calculating fashion when his show paid people to call in with canned questions so that he wouldn't be challenged or contradicted. However, it was probably Fox News that institutionalized it with outright lies rather than just arrogant ignorance.
