Karl-Richard Frey is a German judoka, who competes in -100 kg. weigh category. He is former World silver and bronze medalist. Frey might not be the most accomplished judoka in terms of medals, but he is one of the most exciting one to watch due to his explosive and aggressive style of Judo, with him you can always expect to see some great throws. His main techniques are: Koshi Guruma, Seoi Nage, O Soto Gari and Uchi Mata, he also has strong ground game.

This is super impressive. Very smooth and fast for a big guy and a technician. What is most impressive is that, unlike a lot of top judoka, he uses many different techniques perfectly at the right moment. I counted 15 different techniques. When you watch Riner for example (who is one of the greatest of all times) you see ¾ of his Ippons are O Soto Gari and Uchi Mata.

I like this guy's close range game - it's similar to my style. I see a lot of highlights from the more elegant judoka so it's nice to see some love for someone with that explosive, aggressive, close-range style that personally I relate to more.

His legs look extremely weak in comparison to his upper body. He should be working out to balance it out. When you look at Japanese judoka legs, you see nothing of the sort. They're exremely powerful.

Ashiwaza sweeps are the penultimate embodiment of the principle of minimum effort. At first comes, dodges and simple counters. I admit dodges and counters don't look so impressive, but ashiwaza certainly are beautiful
@Yourdrunkuncledave
@Yourdrunkuncledave 4 жыл бұрын
@@munkhtulgabattogtokh1602 True, Ashi waza is the embodiment of the principle of minimal effort, just as I would argue that Sutemi waza are the best techniques to illustrate the JU principle of using your oppenents momentum and energy against them. However when it comes to being aesthetically pleasing, imho, I think that Koshi waza throws are the most impressive because of the arc that the throw creates when someone gets thrown over the hips. Koshi waza throws are the ones with most actual body to body contact seeing as you are literally hugging Uke in a rotating fashion with the hips and rib cage pressed firmly against the other body whilst wrapping your arm around their back or head. This creates a throwing arc where the body and legs are lunged through the air in such a manner, that even among Judo throws it stands out in my opinion.. :)
@munkhtulgabattogtokh1602
@munkhtulgabattogtokh1602 4 жыл бұрын

@@munkhtulgabattogtokh1602 what is your favourite throw and ne waza transition?
@munkhtulgabattogtokh1602
@munkhtulgabattogtokh1602 4 жыл бұрын
@@Yourdrunkuncledave With everything I said, my ashiwaza is terrible so my favourite transition would be ogoshi or koshi guruma to a kesa-gatame. Simple and deadly since often my opponents are winded by the throw, and if not by the kesa-gatame. Now I aspire to fight with less and less effort. Because neither my or my uke's body can tolerate that kind of aggression in the long-term. I would have nobody to train with and have to retire younger at this rate. That's why I have really started admiring ashiwaza and simple movements. At 1st Dan, I realise I have only just started learning judo.
