I so enjoyed stumbling across this brief interview. I’d love ‘Making Love’ to be rereleased or remade and burst onto screens worldwide again. It’s still as relevant today, if not more so, than it was over 40 years ago when the world wasn’t ready to face up to the truth that stems from people living in denial; not understanding or accepting of their truth, let alone those closest to them being ‘allowed in’. The movie should have helped saved a hell of a lot more heartache and tragedy over the last few decades than it actually did, I believe.

I agree. Every time I watch Making Love, I’m surprised at how a bit broken I feel for Claire in the closing scene. Kate Jackson’s character portrayal is so convincing, it’s as though she could have gone through a similar experience in her personal life and she’s a very good actor!

Kate Jackson was way ahead of her time. She stood up to male dominated networks and never compromised her her beliefs or what she wanted to do with her career. She was known at being "difficult" but she was just standing up for herself, demanding the best of herself and others - not any more of others but to have them strive to be the best they could be. It's such a shame that Aaron Spelling would not let her have time off to do Kramer vs. Kramer. She would have nailed that role. I look up to her strength, her talent and her outlook on life. She is my favorite and always will be.

I feel sad she apparently missed the Oscar nomination for this movie to Debra Winger by only one vote. That's awful. Not to mention her not being allowed to do Kramer vs. Kramer. Oh man, Kate really had to put up with many disappointments and lots of lies being told about her. But yes, she is a strong woman and always has been.

Kate Jackson is and always will be amazing. I love how she stands up for her belief in people being who they are, when the interviewer asks about why Zack is in his predicament, and her response that it has nothing to do with his home life or his masculinity - but that it is just who he is. Kate really should have gone on to more work. The film itself is a watershed film, and Kate was magnificent in it. Thank you so much for posting - Kate looks exquisitely beautiful! A consumate pro with class and intelligence. Her work ethic, kind nature, and natural analytical approach to explaining her work and life in general is refreshing and helps people in 2024 understand that working women in the 1980s were not all kept in some kind of suppressed silence as some pretend. I am not saying things were perfect but we now characterize the past in an overly negative light.

Michael Dineen Stefan Pfeil I agree with you both it's wonderful to see Kate in interviews like this. I loved the movie "Making Love". Kate Jackson was brilliant in it but it was oh so sad. But that's what I find so fascinating about her. She can do dramatic roles and she can do comedy. And everything in between. I think "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" was a great series. My problem with it was that it was in the 80s and so I didn't like the 80s hairstyles (perms) and the awful fashion of that time. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't Kate's fault it was just that decade. Whenever I looked at Amanda King I desperately tried to find hints of Sabrina Duncan but could hardly make out any. She had changed so much due to the 80s thing. So to me Kate Jackson will always be the gorgeous, smart, cool, fun, athletic, caring and badass detective, beautiful and cute Sabrina Duncan on Charlie's Angels! Her tall, slender body, that silky shoulder length hair. And that very cool 70s fashion. Her in slacks and a t-shirt or blouse. I've been watching all her three seasons of CA recently, after four decades! And OMG I find her as fascinating as I did back in the day. It really makes me feel very nostalgic at times.

My mouth dropped when I heard that nonsense--WHAT? Kate's character was smart, successful, kind, loving and beautiful--so much so that a gay man was able to love and marry her--ultimately, both realized that his place wasn't with her, and she went on to remarry and have a family. What would that have to do with her having a career? Talk about scapegoating!

40 years on, " Making Love" still holds up so well. A wonderful, insightful slice of life revolving around a heterosexual couple challenged by the husband's coming to terms with his homosexuality. An intelligent film for audiences 15,(?) and up. Unfortunately, overlooked, in part because of it's theme, & FOX "dumped it into limited release during February, (a ( month for films considered no to have much hope at the Box Offc.). Three fine performances. Oscar nods were amiss to the trio of first rate actors, screenplay & directing. This film was certainly ahead of its time.

What a beautiful person, something about her stands out and I can't really put my finger on it. I was a senior in high school when this was filmed back in 82'. Wrong time for Kate, that's all. You all know the saying about "timing"? Kate was too "ahead of her time", meaning, born too soon. I use born-too-soon a lot. I was also "one of those". We are born in a "normal" (pre-advancing) time, and are mired there, even though our minds are future-seeking. Kate was the brightest & the best, absolutely.

You're right, he asked if Zach's coming out was "a reaction to fem liberation." He was in essence asking if the women's movement was responsible for emasculating men and turning them into homosexuals, but using SLIGHTLY less offensive phrasing. And again, you're right Jackson did answer it very well; I don't know if that's what Ontkean used for his character's back story, but it certainly made a lot of sense.

I really love this interview, even when the interviewer asked some silly questions. (Did Zack became gay because of his wives carrer ... But, on the other handside, this might be a question that some people of that time really have had in their mind - stupid as it is. But that were the early eighties - nearly 40 years away from today and todays thinking.) What I love on this interview is it calmness. It is not fast, it is not hysterically, it is not simulated funny. The interviewer asks his questions in a calm an gentle way and Kate answers them also calm and gentle. The interviewer gives her time to answer and she does it very well. It's none of these interviews were everybody is asking and answering fast and loud, just to be the centre for the next 12 minutes and were everybody tries to earn some cheap laughs as acknowledgement and to hide that the questions or answers have absolutely no content. But maybe it also works in this case because heres an interview with an intelligent person who's got really something to say and not with some sort of an C-Prom who just tries to be on screen without having any output. So I enjoyed this interview very much. It is very nice and charming and an wonderful example, how interviews should be made more often. Thank you for sharing it. And, by the way, Kate Jackson is talking about Jane Fonde in "Coming Home", one of my absolute favourite films. I love Jane Fonde in it but I always thought that her role would have been a terrific role for Kate Jackson.

@Chris Gavito Totally agree with you!! Kate was a knockout. In this interview and also on Charlie's Angels. On The Rookies, too. What a beautiful, smart and talented woman!

Gays, Lesbians, Angels, Farrah and Kate: It's as real as the law of gravity. If you ask any gay dude old enough to remember who his favorite original angel was, that queen will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS name Farrah. Now go ask a lesbian old enough to remember who her favorite angel was, and that dagger will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS say Sabrina. I swear it's true! If you don't believe me, go find an old queen somewhere and ask him. He'll tell you Farrah and then do some silly hair flip thing. Then go find a lesbian and ask the same question. She'll put down the Makita for a moment, look you dead in the eye and say flatly 'Sabrina', in the same tone of voice she would use to say 'duh!'

Since you're ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS correct, guess that makes me a lesbian!
