In the last 40 years we have shifted to sunflower, safflower and other hydrogenated oils following fears of lifestyle disorders like obesity and heart attacks. We live in fear of egg yolks, fish fries, nuts, coconut oil, ghee and butter. In this 21 minute nutritional-thriller we look at the scientific basis of one of the most hotly debated topics in health - Is fat healthy and what source of fat should we use.

I remember dalda being used in our home for sweets sometimes. Especially when needed in large quantities. But never as tasty as home made ghee.

Thanks for this! I speak fluent Malayalam, but this is a format I am very comfortable with. Your other videos have subtitles on them, so my non Malayalee friends can benefit from them. I love the production of your videos. The content is on point. I appreciate the research into the topics I was born and raised in Singapore. I was acquainted with the jargon of the time back in those days on margarine and so on. I for one, never enjoyed the taste of those alternatives. I much preferred ghee and my coconut oils. It was an intuitive decision, but one that was validated over time. Once again, thank you for the great content! Salma

Thank you for the information, I'm in 40s and have undergone all these Trans fats, unhealthy eating habits, together with healthy food as well. I was 90 kg nd started using only healthy fat nd whole fruit nd boiled vegetables, I'm now feeling less inflammation . I make sure that I have turmeric, ginger, pepper nd lemon together with natural fats nd 25 % protein in my food. Things are working. We Indians should surely comeback to a healthy diet both for body nd mind. Very useful information. Thank you

Very well done. Thanks ( Your language is also very good by teh way ) Why is reused oil bad? ( Some time ago, I read each time you cook in oil, 5% of it turns into trans fat. Which *if* true, will substantiate the claim that reusing oil is bad. But googling now, i m not able to find anything to support it. [ Even if that were true, that ought to depend on the temperature of cooking. I dont know what the typical temperature of frying is ] ) Is reusing oil really bad? ( supported by evidence-based science )

Dalda was kind of a rich man's oil. Normal people still used coconut oil. But another thing invaded our kitchen was palm oil. Which was used to fry pooris and pappadam. Looking back, there was a clear manipulation by the corporates who imported and marketed palm oil, to capture the unorganized coconut oil market in kerala. I remember continued articles and studies detailing how coconut oil causes heart attack.

Hi Dr.it’s really interesting topic.your research is really amazing.I am a critical care nurse , and interested to know about such studies because we have to be updated in our knowledge in order to educate our clients.I would like to share my experience over 20 years I have from Middle East , here the dietary habits are entirely different from us .they are using more animal based diet like camel milk, meat of camel sheep and poultry but not cooking much in other oil.either grill or steamed form.lots of olive oil nuts dates.all kinds of nuts seeds and dairy products.and the facts really surprised me is the very low cardiac diseases and life expectancy is 90-100 yrs.we have many patients expired at the age of 110 .but the younger generation is not healthy with obesity and diabetes due the junk food…. So my conclusion is healthy diet really matters in the overall heath and life expectancy…..with best regards

I used to avoid everything that contains fat. But when i took ultrasound abdomen, doctor told me that i have grade2 fatty liver. This was a shock for me as i was completely avoiding fat. Couple of years later, i came to know about LCHF diet and it was a shocking revelation for me. Ever since, i started consuming foods that contain healthy fats, and im free of fatty liver disease.
