Cyber Chase is the Scooby Doo movie I think would be amazing if they revisited it today as a theatrical movie. The levels being different settings in their respected art styles from the 53 years worth of shows and movies (such as Coolsville from a pup named Scooby-Doo and Crystal Cove from Mystery Inc.) . And the monsters are one that we have unmasked before and at first they try to capture them the same way they did last time but it doesn't work this time or at-least one of the monster needs to be captured differently to progress in the game. Add different Scooby Doo gangs in their art styles and have them mix and match with each other gangs. If possible they could bring back the original live action gang idk why but I think that would be amazing to see. Other than the 4 original straight to home movie what Scooby Doo home movie is your favorite?

There's always something funny about how some stories portray a "digital world" inside computers that just kind of exists, almost as an alternate plane of reality. Like, everything portrayed on a screen is a window into a fully formed world full of tangible objects

As a kid this also was my favorite out of the first four direct to video movies. It also didn't hold up as much for me either, although I still like it, and Zombie Island is my favorite now. I really liked all the classic monsters that show up to chase them, and the digital Scooby gang with their old outfits. I especially like how digital Shaggy is wearing his red shirt and blue jeans from the 80's era of Scooby-doo.
@sissysovereign1294

Yeah that was a really nice touch to put Cyber Shaggy in his 80s outfit and have Cyber cooby match him with his collar since the real ones were already in their retro look.

Oh, is that why! Ngl, that bothered me as a kid, I was like: "They had the clever idea of giving the digital versions the original costumes and art style, but for Shaggy they just... give him a completely different outfit?" I completely forgot about his cringey red-shirt era!

I personally loved the pacing of this one! the montage felt hype and the culmination of classic villains in the end was a great slap of nostalgia all at once rather than progressively teasing it over and over. Happy you mentioned the game! It was a blast as a child.

Because of all the baseball references, it was easy to figure out who was causing all the trouble. The writers shouldn’t have made it so obvious. Other than that, it was enjoyable. It’s my 3rd favorite. 1. Zombie Island, 2. Witches Ghost, 3. Cyber Chase.
@lycanthis9963

That off script rant couldn't be more true. Just look at The Owl House. Finally has it's 3rd season, but got prematurely cancelled and shortened to three 45 minute specials because some idiot executives decided it wasn't what they wanted the company to do anymore, despite being one of the best shows Disney has produced recently.

This one will always hold a special place in my heart. The montage slaps so hard and I still quote “where there’s a will there’s a wooly mammoth” to this day. Definitely a bit of a missed opportunity given the possibilities in the premise alone but nonetheless love this one.

@zgamer200
@zgamer200 Жыл бұрын
I'm surprised that Cyberchase was your favorite of these films, at least before the rewatch. For me Zombie Island was the best of the 4 "The Monsters are Real" Scooby-Doo films. It genuinely scared me as a kid, and I can't say that about any of the other films. I think it helps that it also had an overall darker color palette than Cyberchase. It probably also helps that I love "It's Terror Time Again." Meanwhile Cyberchase just didn't scare me at all as a kid. The design of the villain wasn't scary or creepy at all, the really bright, arguably over so, colors made it a lot harder to be scared imo, and I was way more fascinated by the gang meeting up with their in-game counterparts and also by the idea of a Scooby-Doo video game(look I was 5 in 01, I wasn't very aware of what video games existed). As for the rewrite you proposed, I do like the idea of having all 10 levels being about past villains, but I do wonder if that might have gotten old towards the end. Maybe you could chop the number of levels down considering the movie needed a montage of several levels. Maybe doing 5 levels where you get a new Mystery Gang member each level to help change up the comedic dynamic a bit could work.

I like your idea but I’d make it six levels the first five are as you described the creeper being the first boss as he’s the best known. Level six I’d actually base off the previous movies and have Simone and Leena, Sarah and Ben Ravencroft, and maybe I’d have the seti crew as their alien forms all being led by the phantom virus I’d also have the full gang in the final level.
@kateorgera5907
@kateorgera5907 Жыл бұрын
The interesting thing about your rewrite is, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed used a very similar concept - by having the costumes of their previous villains come to life , the gang had to revisit their past and defeat them again. The only thing missing is the video game aspects and the gang meeting themselves. If Cyber Chase had gone that route, Scooby Doo 2 would look VERY different, I'd imagine. Also, I would argue the problem was corporate bureaucracy more than capitalism or nepotism, since the higher ups imposed their will on the team and used someone who was already on staff. Not saying the two are unrelated in this case, but it's more directly a bureaucracy problem.

This is still my personal favorite Scooby Doo movie, but a lot of your points are valid. I'll always say that I think it could've been really cool if this was a tv show. Like them going through each level in an episode. Either way though, this movie was amazing to me as a kid, and still now. Seeing the original monsters that I grew up watching, coming back to be in this film was so nostalgic and really cool. They still nailed it with the music in the film, and had a lot of memorable chase scenes. The villain was obvious though. I mean come on, the phantom virus says something about baseball in every level lol

Always remember that just because someone critiques a movie or show, it doesn't mean that we're saying that it's bad. Although I'm not really a fan of this movie myself, I understand why others still appreciate it. It's nostalgic and has its charm. Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost is my close second favorite Scooby film after ZB and even I acknowledge some of it's flaws but don't let that ruin it for me because it's still a masterpiece in my eyes and you shouldn't let the flaws or criticisms of Cyber Chase ruin it for you either. 👍❤️

Yes!!!! Scoobtober has begun!! 😍 While Cyber Chase is my least favorite of the four movies you will be covering, that isn’t saying much - it is still VERY nostalgic for me. While Cyber Chase does involve a real monster, the atmosphere of this movie feels drastically different from the other three that you will be covering this month. It just doesn’t feel as weird/creepy as the other three. And I just wish we could have seen a little more of the other levels in the game, aside from seeing them in a montage. Long story short - thank you for giving me a dose of nostalgia this week :) I am so excited for the rest of Scoobtober! 🥰

I probably should revisit this film for the heck of it but it is weird that the game that was supposedly about them really didn't feel like it. I really do wish that Warner Brothers allowed the original creators to have the creative liberty that they deserved because Zombie Island is a BANGER... your ideas for what could've been were really cool and if they hired the right team nowadays (Although I don't think that'll be the case because of Velma), a Return to the Cyber Chase with these elements would probably be one of the best Scooby-Doo movies ever. Biggest thing was for a game about Scooby Doo's history, it really fell flat. Why are the levels (Minus maybe the last one) just such generic locations? Would've been cooler if each level was designed around iconic Scooby Doo cases and locations with a fitting ghost to each one rather than stuffing the fan service all at the last level. Also they made the reveal way WAY too obvious even by Scooby Doo standards. Would've been an effective twist if the other scientist was behind it and framed the baseball guy with his overt love of sports as tips to try to frame him.

Oh, good, I was worried at the beginning that this was your favorite of the films, haha. It's not bad, but I definitely agree with what you said here. The best part of the film is them interacting with their "digital" versions. I'd never really considered the villain here retroactively as being innocent, which is both funny, and like you said, kind of upsetting in some ways. I'm really looking forward to the other film reviews/retrospectives. Hope you're doing well and not overworking yourself. Edit: I also know you're only covering the main films this month, but I'm definitely going to ask you about the Red (pink?) Shirt Shaggy films if I catch you on stream. I just simply liked it because it was apart of the movie collection that last used those animation style, but now I see what you're getting at and I agree. Now I do remember not being too satisfied with the level skips. Witch's Ghost and Zombie Island were my favorites. I liked how in Zombie Island it shows how they all moved on in life. Daphne was a breath of fresh air with her having the most character development from the damsel in distress. With Witch's Ghost I like how Thorn is actually 1/16th wiccan which was a nice twist. Also how many witches are actually wiccans were persecuted falsely, but the wiccan was actually a witch the entire time. Both of those films had an extra layer of complexity in their story in my opinion. Now though those are my favorite, Alien Invaders are in their own category. It was more so emotional for me. I don't think I've seen a love story such as this in the Scooby Doo franchise up until that point. The fact they were aliens made it even more so like drama. Love interests literally worlds apart. I was hoping maybe Scooby and Shaggy got to see them again at least one more time, in another film possibly. (Hey they did a sequel to Zombie Island, but we don't talk about that.)

Its really enjoyable and great fun, the monster being real and the concept is great, mystery inc being trapped in a video game and get out and try to find out who created the phantom virus, definetly lighter, only problem I had was the culprit was so obvious, Witch's Ghost is my Favourite regardless, Alien Invaders for me is the weakest but still top tier

I get that a lot of people don't like this movie, and I can understand why, but I still love this movie. Ignoring it's problems, I find it so much fun to watch! This movie is the one I like to just turn off my brain for and just enjoy the weird, wackiness of it. Definitely not my favorite out of all the Scooby movies, but still enjoyable.

I loved this movie, but I haven't seen it since like 2005 so I didn't really remember much except that I thought the villain was cool (the blue guy not the baseball dude lol)

Scooby Doo on Zombie Island was the main event for a Friday night after school. Witch’s Ghost was a great Saturday night feature, Alien Invaders can also be watched on a Saturday but I prefer the darker Witch’s Ghost to play us out on a Saturday night. Cyber Chase… is the movie you watch on a Sunday afternoon while you dread having to go back to school the next day. 😪😪 It’s still fun enough, the ending where they say goodbye to their game avatars is sweet and feels like a signing off for this era of Scooby Doo that revived the franchise. Also Scooby and Shaggy eating the whole cafeteria was funny.

It's sad because there were a couple of good games that went through the gang's past adventures and actually solved mysteries and unmasked the villains. Night of A Thousand Frights and Unmasked. The latter being my personal favorite.

Cyber Chase was always my favorite so I'm a bit sad to hear the staff didn't like the plot and didn't like making the movie. Admittedly, it is based primarily on nostalgia and seeing the movie come on TV during the summer or on a relaxing Sunday, so there's definitely some external emotional value to my opinion on the film. I didn't mind the level montage but I can see why it would not be fun for others.

Aside from Zombie Island, I haven't seen the original four in a hot minute, so seeing vids assessing them has been nice to hear and think about. I think generally speaking for me, this movie was solid enough, I don't think I had any strong opinions on it one way or the other. At least the montage has Hello Cyberdream which I think is a bop. For the games, I played both. Never made progress on the gameboy version cuz I sucked, and I actually played the ps1 version a few years ago and got further than I did as a kid, unfortunatley the VIrus is a pain in the ass final boss and I couldn't beat him. Oh well.

That Backyard Baseball clip gave me a direct brain injection of nostalgia. I haven't seen that since I was an actual small child. Honestly, I didn't even remember what it was called until I googled. And it seems I had Backyard Baseball 1997 specifically, too.

It would be cool if the Werecat Trio, Ben & Sarah Ravencroft and the Alien "Invaders" returned (As cyber versions that is) and teamed up with the Phantom Virus and the other monsters to defeat Mystery Ink. Though some of their voice actors wouldn't want to reprise their roles so unless it's major villains, the more minor ones probably wouldn't have a speaking role.

Agreed. for a movie about a video game about themselves. You think they would take inspiration from previous shows and movies. But all it was just," Gang tries to survive Cyber space". They could of easily used the monster from previous series an make them fit into their environment. Imagine samurai Chinese Zombie, A Terminator Space Kook, An Abominable Snow ghost there's plenty of ways to fits these guys into the movie someway in some form.

To be fair, most kid’s adventure games in the late 90’s and early 00’s had “themed” level designs that had nothing to do with the overall premise that the game was based on. I’m thinking of games like Spyro or Crash Bandicoot (since those are what I was playing at the time this movie was released). They both have Dinosaur, Samurai, and Arctic levels in one or all of their games even though those themes have nothing to do with a magical purple dragon or a “Bandicoot” that’s from some tropical Pacific-espue island.
