Just made this, Keef, following along with your video and it came out very good. I found I needed slightly less milk, a tad more flour and about ten minutes extra cooking time. Otherwise all was the same. I got to share this with my family who are American. Thank you for a great recipe.

Chicken liver anything is downright gorgeous.

I'm sure this is V good, but I prefer chopped liver-no cream, hard-boiled eggs, and chopped coarsely leaving nice little chunks of egg, liver, etc. :-)

When making haslet I line the tin with parchment to help with removing the loaf. About your seasoning blend the amount of salt in particular seemed less than I was taught to use, which is between 1 and 1.5 percent per kilo depending on the ingredients and if they contain salt, e.g. bacon. Now this was back in the 1980's before the salt/fat/sugar/MSG before the fascists telling everyone what to do and how to live came to power.

Nice, easy and cheap... I understand why the rooster did not sing the next day. He found out where his chicks had gone. Their livers transformed in pate. He ran away 😅

I’ve made it before and is great, but always worried about how long it lasts under butter? Traditionally I suppose it would keep in a shallow pot with a lid over winter somewhere cool.

Whilst I would eat this, I feel like we probably shouldn't need to with all the options we have in this day and age!

That's how I have cooked my steak and kidney pudding, it's how everyone in my family cooks it for generations. We also do our spotted dick like that and bacon and onion pudding. Everything boiled in rags. I'm a Southerner, by the way and over a hundred years my family cooked like this.

I also bought a can of Heinz Oxtail soup about a month ago. I hadn't tried it since the Eighties, It was vile and oily and never tasted anything like the Oxtail soup of yester year. Was well disappointed... HEINZ, you need to pull your finger out, your soups taste like shite !!!

Looks like it may be good on egg noodles or with a limp of mash! I do them as well and get them a bit crispy first then into the liquid at the last minute.

Mince meat, bacon and cheese pies, my favourite, for over 25 years, family made but also at times bought from the same local Aussie cake and pie shop that sells a wide variety of different pie fillings. Actually just ask for cheese and bacon, it’s accepted there will be great meat and gravy in it as well.😂. Personally, just my preference, but I never use tomato sauce when I have pies but that’s just because these great cheese and bacon need no other help to be yummy for my taste. On occasions my daughter makes a very similar recipe as yours only additions are Worcestershire sauce, and sometimes bacon, in any case, always a great excuse for an extra visit to her home for lunch on her pie making days.

Aye up, Keef! Sounds like yer pie’s a proper cracker, even if it’s not got a bottom crust. Reckon Desperate Dan’d still approve, though, marrowbones stickin' out n’ all! That cow pie of his were always a bit of a beast. Don't worry 'bout them Americans, they wouldn't know a good pie if it hit 'em in the face!

I have just tried a recipe for saucy beef chow ho fun noodles which to me tastes exactly like the original vesta chow mein from my childhood. I'm guessing that they called it "chow mein" using a lot of poetic license and it was probably based on a chow ho fun recipe. If anyone else is as old as dirt like me, and enjoyed the Vesta Chow Mein before it became the disappointing rubbish you get these days, have a crack at chow ho fun, the recipe is from thewoksoflife and is very easy.

Someone is still on Holiday! Retsina is flavored with a pine resin...and is an acquired taste. Some may flavor the chicken livers with a dry or semi-sweet sherry.
