I needed to replace my old work boots with a new pair so I went down an unintended rabbit hole with finding the "perfect" pair of keen boots. For whatever reason, it seems that not all Keen boots are sized the same (particularly in respect to width), so I thought I'd share my experience.
Variants of the two models shown (affiliate links):

You can't go wrong with the Keen Pittsburgh or Braddock. I've worn both for years, they have never failed me.

Hello, how is the cushioning on the Pittsburgh? I am searching for max cushioning in a Keen workboot. Cannot find if the Regen is better or a Luftcore sole. What do you think?

Good video. Thanks for making it. I have several pair of Keen boots, about 10 pair. They are the most comfortable boots I have even worn. That is why I still buy them. I see them as gym shoes on steroids disguised as work boots. That is why they are so comfortable. I'm 60 in a month and work outside all day, carpentry, welding, auto repair, landscaping, all the things that are hard on boots. The boots are not perfect and in fact have a couple of problems that should keep me from ever buying anymore, but since they are comfortable and my feet never hurt like they used to with cheap boots, I suck it up and keep buying them. The problem is, those really nice soles crack in the first year, sometimes 6 months, several of mine just after a year. I researched this on line, it's a very common problem. The crack will be all the way across the sole and 1/2 inch deep. A wet foot one day is the first clue the boot is destroyed. This has happened four times (four different pair) in the last two years, two Braddocks and another style, same sole. Two were inside the year warranty, purchased on Amazon and I had to fight hard and wait (months) for Keen to approve the warranty, it was like pulling teeth, or getting a car dealer to approve an engine replacement or something. I could not believe how disorganized and inefficient they were about the warranty. In the end, I got a coupon code each time to use to buy another pair of boots from their website that will fail again and not be covered at all when they do. One pair failed 11 months after purchased from a store I walked in to purchase and the store owner gave me a new pair, no questioned asked. The other problem has been the lace hold downs fail, especially the cloth ones on many of their boots (I have several different flavors), and that is not covered under the warranty. The warranty is not written on the boot or the box, or the paperwork in the box or the receipt. It is also hard to find on the website. I think that could be a lot better too. The boots are not made in the US either. They are assembled here, which I'm okay with but many believe they are made here. All this being said, I still wear them and I still like them. But mine fail early and if it's after a year, you lose. If it's before a year, and the failure is not one of the two dozen things they will not cover (on the website, only viewable after you start the claim), then after a wait and probably a fight, you will be given a code to put in the promotion field in the Keen footwear cart to get your next pair. So, this is my experience and if you do some research on-line, many folks suffered the same issues. But, since my big feet don't cry anymore, I keep buying.

I work on the river and get about 3 months out of a pair of work boots before they fail, although I did get 6 months out of a pair of Matterhorn boots. I'm on nearly a year with my Keen boots and couldn't be happier.

You proved my point about not buying boots on the internet. Go in where you can look them over, try them on and walk around you'll save a lot of putzing around.

I have the steel toe charcoal & black Keen boots. Not sure of the model name but they have a laminate layer that covers the toe behind the rubber toe cap. That layer started cracking and flaking within the first month and the rubber toe cap and wrap around started to separate as well. I like the spacious toe box, but the boots are heavy and didn’t have the quality I expected from hearing good things about Keen. The rubber soles started to scale on the edges and had loose tags surrounding most of the boot. I drive a truck and climb in and out of the cab and up into the trailer quite a bit but the boots should have held up better.

Footwear, even from the same company, are often made with different lasts ( foot shaped inserts used during manufacturing ). This gives footwear of the same size a different fit.

Keens run small that's why the measure your fit with keens own foot chart. Braddocks are the USA made Version of the Pittsburg. They're nearly identical.

Most boots I've worn are too close in the lacing. When the leather is touching in 6 months. Just ordered Pittsburgh boot hope it's as good as the revel 4 . Timberland pros touch in the laces. Dono why they make em so loose around ankle and calf.

I have the Mt Vernon. I really love them! 😏 I did need to pay close attention to the laces and the tongue to not overlap wrong pressing against the top of my foot but after a few Months it goes easier. I’ve worn them every day since I got them all day everywhere I go. Sometimes up to 20 hours a day! I love them I also go right in the River when I’m Panning or the Bay with my Dog and I have no issues. I did make sure I stayed clear of my heater. I wrecked my last pair staying close too long but they had plastic forefoot and it was really cold 🥶 I messed up and they cracked where they flex. I thought it would be more rubbery but it’s more plastic and it didn’t hold up. I got the Mt Vernon because of the leather and the lace rings were sewn in the leather not attached on top.😒 I have to wear boots where I live somewhat in the Woods in Washington State. I get a new pair every year and they need to make it through. I only get High Quality and I don’t mind paying up to $400 if they are Quality so the $265 for my Keen Boots 🥾 was not a problem I just need what works best for me. 🙂❤️🖖🏼🇺🇸

Good review, I was searching for reviews on the Pittsburgh after ordering the "American Built" Coburg 6" WP steel toe. I definitely bought the Coburg Steel toes because they were American Built, I try to buy North American. Unfortunately the comfort was not there, like I have experienced the past 3 years in my Keen Targhee II Mids (soft toe). I'm going to order the Pittsburghs! Thanks

I wore the pittsburghers for 2 years the ankles are absolutely atrocious on them they're made for somebody with rhinoceros ankles you can't get them tightthey are good boots otherwise the waterproofing lasted really long and they were indestructible but the ankle area was always super loose

I have the cobergs (best) and mt vernons (next best) and Logandale (3rd best, more of a hitop shoe rather than boot) all made in Oregon. I will admit they are wider than other brands as I need to buy wide in other brands but keen regular fit me perfect. Sorry they didnt fit you better!
@DDane99

Keen also makes a wide and normal version for each shoe. Do you have the box label. It will show if you got the wide version or normal version. And I'm not defending the brand, I prefer red wing or wolf, but if you're doing a review, I feel you should be better versed in what you're talking about.

I tried the Braddock on in a local store and it fit similar to the Mount Vernon, but due to their mid height they were a no-go for my as I'm required to have at least 6" boots. The Tacoma style looks nice, but I was really liking the hiking boot style soles. Too many options!

I had a pair of Pittsburgh....but switched as they completely delaminated and fell apart in less than a year. I did like them but they don't last long. My Timberland pro's are very comfortable and lasting much much longer. The stock insole is very good!

Keen makes one of the best boots! Timberland quality isn’t what it used to be unfortunately. I have a pair of Merell Chelsea that I’ve had for 15+ years and still going strong. I got a voucher from work for $125 at Zappos so I got Timberland Pro 6” direct attach for free and just bought the Timberland Anti-Fatigue insoles separately for $25 all in. I’m worried now as I’ve heard that Timberland’s are losing their soles in the matter of months just like your old pair did. Got them for free but I should’ve gotten Keen I’m thinking

I hated the pittsburghers the ankles are terrible super loose no good for construction. I have the 8-inch coburg's and I love them wear them everyday they're slim enough and lightweight that I could still use stilts. the waterproofing on all the keen utility are great and the pittsburghers were tough boots. But you can't get the ankles they're made for rhinos
