Blindness insinuates that the wearer doesn’t see it. They see it and love it. No blindness there.
@avasava77205 ай бұрын
In the makeup community, traditionally “x blindness” was a term used for the eyebrows to insinuate that the wearer isn’t aware of a certain feature that’s (typically) overdone or weird looking because they’ve regulated it over time or trends are pushing for a certain feature that society just accepted verbatim, generally without making the necessary unique specifications that enable it to look suitable on most people. Blush blindness is when blush becomes over exaggerated to everyone else, but it’s harder for the wearer to realize that the blush is overdone, a weird color, an odd placement, one variable is always just off that went unchecked by the wearer and tends to look abnormal because of excessive repetition and exposure
@tammystiletto5 ай бұрын
I am definitely aware, it’s an aesthetic for me personally.
@handsoaphandsoap5 ай бұрын
@@avasava7720 I think you’re missing the very obvious point the commenter is making here, that the term “blindness” isn’t apt in this case because the blush is being worn this way on purpose. Your definition is faulty as it implies that it’s somehow “wrong” to wear your blush in that way, to exaggerate it or wear an unconventional cheek color, when in reality people are doing it as a stylistic choice. Makeup is supposed to be fun. Live a little, loosen up and slap pigment all over your cheeks.

I remember about a decade ago urban decay had these really powder blushes in really unique shades and I had them all. It was the best formula too, I could wear a bright red and a pale peach and a purple and bright orange and I looked good in all of them because the formula was so nice and buildable. I was so sad when they were discontinued. They really were ahead of their time with those. Anyone else remember them? They had highlighters in the same packaging that were also amazing. I miss the pink shade Aurora it was so perfect

I loved this video. Your outlook and attitude is spot on. Makeup should make you feel good, not shamed. It is fun and it does wash off at the end of the day. We should be supporting and lifting each other up. Who cares what other people do as long as they are feeling good about themselves and happy. Thank you for this video.

I think blush tends to be the shoes of make-up, meaning painting your cheeks is more fun and less complicated (like buying shoes as opposed to clothing) than finding a base, mascara, or eye shadow. Your cheeks are always your cheeks and it’s just easier to play around and even change your mood by using blush of sorts.

Good thing I don't care what anyone else thinks of my makeup! I love the blush trend, I remember when I was a kid in the 80s, and I always loved the loud blush trend back then too!

Without judgment, I think the gap between the everyday makeup user and the makeup influencer/close follower is growing. The everyday user doesn’t have blush blindness. We notice when we’ve accidentally overdone it, and we can usually tell whether someone else has overdone it on purpose or by accident. 😂 I can definitely see, however, how the joy of using a product or a new technique can completely blind you to how much you’re using - in my 20s, it was bronzer and concealer. It’s always something, and there’s nothing necessarily wrong with it, but it does draw attention.

Most of us have "blindness" when something is really trending, and that's totally fine. I'm 57, and remember that blush was huge during the 80's. I loved a lilac-pink Chanel blush and I was far from lighthanded with it. My hair was huge and I wasn't lighthanded with hair spray either. So what. I love looking at old pictures from that time. Women are always being shamed for something. This is makeup. It washes off. I hope women will just continue blushing hard for as long as they want to.

Personally I really like bold, artistically placed blush (because for me makeup is an art form for me to experiment and express myself), but I get scared that people are going to say I’m blush blind or question if I’m crazy for how I did my makeup that day. I end up a lot of times forcing myself to tone it down before I leave the house because even though I love it I don’t want to be seen as crazy. I wish everyone saw it as just ART.

That's true. However personally I've always loved a nice baby pink blush and I never understood why in 2010s beauty gurus would either skip it altogether or go for nude almost bronzer-like blush maybe a little bit of peach. Not looking forward to blush being a product to skip again and there being poor choice of shades at the stores.

I appreciate this series so much! I'm all for the bold blush moments we are having. I've never in my life had so many at one time....but you're so on point with times and trends and I doubt the blush train stops for a while! Makeup is washed off each day and we get to start again the next and that is what makes it so fun!

I know for me, some of the blush trendiness and what I buy has been about being solidly middle aged and realizing that adding more blush = a more youthful look and it really can bring a level of color back to the face unlike anything else, and any sense of too-muchness to my own eyes is usually on the younger ones that don’t “need” to push the envelope on blush (but of course makeup as expression and fun is always more important than the concept of anyone actually “needing” blush, but we olds have decades of magazines telling us what was “right” and it’s hard to re-wire that, even as it serves us less to cling to all that bogus ageism and old style never-perfect-enough vibe!) 🙃

I think pink or rosy lips (or peachy ones if that suits) = a more youthful look. That's the magic color product for me.

I’ve never been so early before! I love your content and your personality 🥰 Regarding blush blindness, I can confirm I’ve had it. I remember one time I did my makeup like normal and then caught my face in natural lighting and was surprised at the amount of blush I was wearing (definitely too much, even for today’s standards), but oh well, that’s part of learning how to do makeup and figuring out what works best for us personally.

It's sad that they find a way to bash women having fun. I watched the beauty community back when it first started till now and I wasn't able to be involved as things were so expensive and out of reach for me at the time and now that I been having fun with make up and able to enjoy better products everyone seems to say we are "doing it wrong" or we aren't in trend. Like I just was able to buy more expensive eyeshadow pallets granted still on sale but now people say eyeshadow is out of trend but I'm still having fun learning and playing with it and blush I love to play with and now they bash that. No matter what we should do it for fun to feel better about our self and not to worry what products r on trend or what acceptable for the trends

I don't like "x blindness" either. It's just a trend! It's kind of fun to be able to look back and know when a picture was from. I'd only hesitate if there were possibly permanent consequences like overplucking eyebrows.

Part of the fun in life is looking back at pictures of your younger self and laughing at the clothes, hairstyles and makeup that you used to wear. Unless you’re taking pictures for your wedding or some other momentous occasion who cares if you don’t look picture perfect in every photo. That’s not living that’s vanity.

I’m kinda sick of how people on TikTok are constantly coming up with new terms for stuff that has already been around for decades at this point and just acting like it’s all brand new. Like didn’t we just like used to call this “it was the style at the time” or “yeah I was a bit of a fashion victim” Like my mom probably doesn’t say that she has “looking like a poodle that got hit by lightning blindness” because of how she did her hair in the 80’s

I think this look is adorable on you. I agree w you-it feels like a lot of unnecessary shaming and whiplash to put out blush like there’s no tomorrow and then suggest that people shouldn’t be wearing it. As much as I love blush, I’m afraid this trend of minimizing someone else’s blush style is the beginning of the end of the blushy trend. By the end of the year, will we have pendulum swung back to bronzer and liquid lips?

I graduated from HS in 1990, and my hair barely fit in my yearbook photo! My kids are in their 20s, and LOVE to see pics of their dad and I in the 80s and 90s.. were we high hair blind? Maybe!! But I LOVED my ginormous hair! I love the grunge phase! I’m not embarrassed!! I’m thrilled I have those pics, and I looked cute! I love blush, and I still love eyeshadow some days, even tho I’m a little more minimal in my multichrome looks lately!

Loved hearing your reflections on this ! I agree, trends are trends for a reason. What they wore in the 80s was THEE look then, then it toned down in the 90s, ramped up a little in the early 2000s and then toned down a little again….the pendulum swing, like you said. I think it’s so fun to look back, too, and remember the different trends and reminisce on it. The digital footprint definitely makes a huge difference…everyone’s so afraid to “look bad” or to not always look on trend or cool or be made fun of or whatever. Just live your life ! Have fun…10 years from now remember that fun when you’re looking back on those pictures. Life’s too short to try to stay acceptable to other people at all times …it’s impossible so why even try lol

Get it with your love for blush. I had a period where I was really enjoying blush. I think I didn't get super into it because I didn't want to spend money for a cream blush when a bullet lipstick could do the same thing. I'm preferring bronzer these days. Still loving eyeshadow. And kinda back to a see me from outer space highlight. These things may come back in style in 2 years. Maybe then I'll be back into blush.

Blush is meant to be fun and creative. If a makeup artist did the same techniques, would any of us say this artist has blush blindness? I think the current blush styles are reminiscent of the 1980s era with the bright pinks, plums, apricots or corals. When we look at Cyndi Lauper, Boy George, Madonna, Grace Jones, fashion models and others. Vibrant and bold. Like the baby pop of blue is 1960s vintage. So fun to find colors to accentuate our features. You got it...sport it.

Blush seems to always be the main makeup application that is out of control. It looks ridiculous in most decades. A KZbinr will do a flawless makeup application and then they add the blush and it ruins the whole look. The other “blindness” that has happened are just trends and funny to look back on but the blush has always been a hot mess.

Watching the video with 3 cream blushes on the desk that just arrived in the mail. I've always been a blush girl and called it my "statement cheeks" 10 years ago. It wasn't very popular then, but I have a round face and big frames, so it looked quite balanced. I loved all the magentas, corals and purples back than, while I'm in my nude mauves + bronzer era now, but still heavy-handed. I love that it's so popular now, because there are so many new formulas end effects. I definitely believe in brow blindness - thin lines 20 years ago or the scared bambi lamination today. But not blush, as long as it's well blended and proportioned. I think of it as a logical eyeshadow extension and compared to all the blues, greens, duochromes it's kind of "natural"...

Yeah I still wear highlighter and blush, and eye-liner too, because after years of trial and errors the combo of that + mascara is the one suiting me the best. I keep the same base style but change the blush and highlighter colors depending on my clothes, and If I have time I do some contouring and put matching eyeshadow... Makeup is supposed to be fun indeed, if you have no dress code at your job really do what you want !
