Yes! Also, people need to understand that they don’t necessarily know what the neurotypical response is in these situations because we don’t have easy access to it. Noema was a child herself. Her decisions and even her emotions are most likely related to her age, lack of experience, shock and disbelief of what happened and a survival instinct to compartmentalism to be able to function. My daughter almost died. I watched her struggle for her life, drove her to a hospital and was with her every second. I was also pregnant and numb and was in disbelief. I was silent, and stoic (so I’m told). Only when they tried to airlift her to a children’s hospital( from the second hospital), did tears roll down my face silently. This was my daughter who I literally fought for her life many times in her life, and was desperate for her to live, but my brain and my emotions were both numb. Idc what language what time what hour what country I’m in. If my child is gone for more than 2 minutes I’m gonna start going crazy. Not that I've ever been in a situation like this, but I feel like I would react the same if I knew I was in the wrong. Also, she's a young mom. I'm around the same age the mom would be in right now, and as a 23 year old, I can't imagine what she could be going through. No one teaches you how to be a mom. She was only 19 when this happened. Kinda ridiculous that people think it’s suspicious that she’d be eating after her child goes missing. People react to upsetting events in different ways, one of them being by stress eating. And it’s not like eating is some sort of luxury that should be ignored. She needs to eat to survive, thinking that’s evidence that she did something to her child is ridiculous. Maybe she was involved, maybe not. Her eating food while she’s pregnant isn’t evidence that she did something wrong, especially if she ordered a pizza to the search site. Thank you for pointing out the cultural component. I'm Mexican too, and this is also what I was thinking. There is a lot of pressure on Mexican women to appear strong, especially in the most stressful situations. Breaking down public might be seen as weak, and therefore the actions of a bad mother and a weak woman. My grandma is Mexican, and it is unspoken taboo to spend time talking about things that make people seem weak. Home remedies are a huge thing because there has been a lack of access to healthcare. 7-Up and Vicks VapoRub is a meme now for a reason. I also knew another lady who had cancer and went straight to her grave without every telling anyone, even her husband and children, because she did not want to be perceived as weak. Nobody had any clue until she was too sick to function. She dies two days later. This doesn't even touch on how cultural differences don't just color how people react, they color our own interpretation of other people's reactions. Somewhere out there, there's a bunch of Mexican ladies who think a white woman sold her missing kid because she's crying and wailing on national television.

It’s so disgusting that people go to playgrounds and steal children. My sister in law and my niece were at a park a few weeks ago and there was a woman screaming for help and two men creeping up behind my niece. I think they thought that my sister in law would leave her daughter and run over to help the woman screaming for help. Thankfully she didn’t. She took her daughter and went to try to help the woman. As soon as she got to the woman who was in her car, she refused to speak. That’s when she saw the 2 men running away. Turns out the two men and the woman knew each other. The cops did nothing! No investigation. No putting out the information about the car or the people to the public. Now this all happened at a small town on cape cod ma. It can happen to anyone. Her reaction is definitely off but people also have to realize she’s been a mother since she was 13. I’d venture to guess she probably has the mindset/maturity of a 15 year old. Not every child that has a baby “instantly matures to a responsible adult”. She wasn’t even “forced to grow up per say” because her own mother was raising her children. When Dulce went missing Noema was 19, pregnant and living on her own but in this moment was responsible for a 5 year old, a 3 year old, and her little sister (about age 12 I think). Her hands were full and she was inattentive. Until someone proves to me she had something to do with it I’m holding off on passing judgement on her. Another thing to think about is, usually victims of sexual trauma often have trouble showing and expressing emotion. As a police officer I have not yet met a teen who was sexually active at the age of 13 and NOT a victim of sexual trauma. That could explain her immaturity and apparent disassociative mental state! I hope and pray this little one is found safe!

Everyone is saying her energy is off. Some people don’t have any emotions when they have experienced a lot. When my brother passed away it was hard for me to cry because I’m not used to being vulnerable I’m used to being the stronger one around everyone. She probably broke down crying some days because she can’t find her child. She probably has the mentality of being strong. Some people just cope differently. She was depressed and usually when you’re depressed you just lack emotions you just become numb to the world. You can’t cry, eat, and sometimes even sleep. You’re just drained mentally and physically.

Noema definitely was irresponsible for letting the kids so you go off too far themselves. That said, people judging her and saying that shit is not only sad but disgusting! If she wasn't already someone with a more emotionally numb personality, that situation made worse by such cruel and inconsiderate people would definitely make someone emotionally numb! Plus being pregnant and dealing with everything, its a impossible situation to deal with. Sad world.

I don’t see someone who is flat, I see a mother who was taught through culture that you don’t show emotion to strangers. She looks so broken and lost inside, not “flat”.

As a therapist, her flat affect really speaks to more mental health reasons or cultural differences than anything else. @xolauriebooxo18704 жыл бұрын
I think this case is genuinely just one of those “wrong place, wrong time” cases. The mother doesn’t seem guilty whatsoever to me, everyone shows emotions differently, we also have to remember she has other children... maybe she wants to be strong for them and god knows what her mental health is like, she could be suffering silently. Whatever happened I hope justice is served but until then I think people should be more focused on actually LOOKING for Dulce instead of posting negative comments about her mother. If she didn’t have anything to do with it I can only imagine how guilty she feels everyday for letting her 2 children run off to the playground by themselves, it wasn’t a very logical or safe thing to do but keep in mind she is only young and she probably didn’t even think for a second anything would actually happen.

As someone who constantly gets mistaken for being completely emotionless, this is not some thing that determines guilt. It can be due to depression,trauma, or the need to be secretive with your emotions is also prominent in some cultures. These people are often highly sensitive & they’re just good at hiding it. I could see myself having the same reaction and sympathize with her.
@lizettealvarado69004 жыл бұрын
People commenting saying she’s a “bad” mom and “not watching her kids” also making comments about Noema’s age disappoints me. I was barely turning 15 when I found out I was pregnant, had a rough time realizing what that responsibility holds at that age and my mother helped me as well. Just because her mom helped her doesn’t mean she wasn’t a good mom. Being a mom is hard at any age let alone a teenager. Every mom makes mistakes. Should she have let them get off the car alone? No. But hindsight is 20/20. Just hearing the 911 call brings tears to my eyes, she obviously doesn’t want to believe her baby is missing. You guys can say she’s “acting weird” but all I see is a scared young mom who’s baby just went missing and I’m sure she was already thinking of the things people would say about her as a mom bc she already feels guilty enough. Please think before you speak on situations a lot of you haven’t ever been in! I pray she’s reunited with her baby girl.

She had Dulce when she was 14 and her son when she was 16. It is possible that the grandmother raised the children, they were living with her when Dulce disappeared. I think this could have caused her to be somewhat disconnected. Also she was still only 19 years old, still a kid herself.
