I do agree in this story yes, because of the attitude that the mother had, about being in shape, and how her parents claimed “to do everything they could to help her disorder” but proceeded to pressure her...I do think that it’s their fault. As an overall case I do think it’s normal to keep some things from parents as that’s also how children grow to be their own person with independence. But this story is SO different to the average life or family.

@@Luckyforus686 You're right ✅ I somehow missed that detail on first watch. I think that whether or not it was the right choice, the doctors had to have picked up on the girls panic and terror about finding out she's pregnant, and wanted to just get the birth control to appease the mom in the meantime since she wasn't mentally prepared to tell her in the car ride home, which is understandable imo. I'm guessing they made her give them her word that she wasn't going to use BC until after the baby was born, but there WERE alarm bells raised as the doctors did call the police weeks later. Since she was 18, they couldn't bring the mom in and tell her themselves, which had to have been a major factor in their decision making.

@@rattian1976 it sounds like she accidentally suffocated the baby. This girl was a 10th grader (15-16 years old) and we don’t know what her home life was. It’s natural that after having a baby as a literal child (again, 15-16 years old) and then accidentally killing them she would panic. There definitely have to be consequences for accidents like these, but it was more than likely an accident caused by the panicked actions of a child who didn’t know what to do. A human brain isn’t fully developed until about the age of 25. I would say a 15-16 year old convicted of this should engage in community service and educational programs, but I feel like unless it was premeditated, the child shouldn’t be put into prison for it.

How can you have had a period the whole time?
@summertimedesigns
@summertimedesigns 2 жыл бұрын
@@teneshalulu2482 As a nurse, I guarantee that it does happen, particularly to young women whose periods are often very irregular. This happens even more often with a severe eating disorder. And believe me when I say that just having to deal with an insidious eating disorder, especially at a pretty young age, is punishment enough- even if you are blessed with loving, supportive parents. The level of self-hatred it requires to starve your body nearly to death is immeasurable. And severe, chronic EDs tend to stunt your emotional growth at around the age it began. You're not working with a healthy brain. I speak from experience, both as a nurse and as a patient. I've been battling anorexia since the age of 11, and I am 50 now. Every single person struggling with an ED in my years of impatient treatment programs had pretty serious childhood trauma- without exception. Even with my professional background, it took organ failure and hypovolemic shock to give me the strength to recover. At some point, she will realize what she has done, and she'll punish herself forever, no doubt. I pray that Skylar finds the strength and courage to fight like hell! Love to her- ❤‍🩹

Alana Batista most babies aren’t born with fluid in their lungs to the point where they have to suction, bc on the way out of the birth canal they are squeezed so tightly that they eject most of the fluid. My daughter wasn’t suctioned, I don’t know of any natural birth babies that were suctioned unless it was an extremely quick birth. Suctioning after birth is more of a c section thing. I think the baby could’ve been still born but also I have no doubt that if she was born alive the family would’ve killed her anyways. She could’ve drowned if she did actually give birth birth in the toilet like she says. They may have just left her there. So sad.

Sadly, I know a family that went through this. Also being a mother, I couldn't imagine doing what these girls did. Just like Skylars story, the girl I knew felt she couldn't talk to her very conservative, Christian, community prominent parents. I ALWAYS reinforced this with my son and his girlfriend to tell me if something is going on...I will not judge. Because who cares what everyone thinks! I'd rather have a beautiful Grandchild than say, "We had the perfect life". What a horrible mother!!!

Amen to that. I'm so grateful that despite my parents being conservative and Christian, they were also incredibly realistic and understanding. I even talked to my mom at age 17 and told her i was considering having sex with my long term bf. She said she'd rather me wait til I was married, but that she understood. Fast forward a week and I was a at home crying when my mom got home. I told her I didn't want to talk about it and she said it couldn't be any worse than what she assumed I was crying about. So I told her I lost my virginity. She was immediately understanding and said she had been talking to a coworker and that she had recommended I go to Planned Parenthood. All this to say she never judged me or made feel bad. And I could contrast this with my best friends parents, who were also conservative, devout Christians. They made it clear that if they found out their daughter was having sex they'd kick her out of the house. You can imagine my friend didn't tell her parents anything. I think my parents reaction just goes to show that you can hold certain values and want your kids to have them to, and also understand when they "mess up" or don't follow their guidelines like they want you to.

If it cannot survive outside the womb, it’s not a viable life. The lungs don’t function when abortion is preforms. The brain doesn’t function when abortion is preformed. A heartbeat is NOT sign of life. An adult can be completely brain dead on life support with a heartbeat and they are still considered dead. You can disagree all you want but you’re still wrong. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve run into several other moms whose babies began life on the pill as well. It happens. Birth control doesn’t seem to hurt the baby.

Agreed. Medical student here, I really like Kendall but this was so disappointing to hear. Especially when she said “I certainly don’t know” and then proceeded on to say “who knows what it will do” implying that it potentially could harm the baby. And also the part about baby being healthy 11 days before birth, it can take as little as few hours for a baby to go from being completely healthy to being a stillborn. The lack of research on this one is disappointing

Lots of forms of birth control IE the pill or IUD tricks your body into thinking it’s already pregnant hence the side affects. So depending on what birth control you’re on it wouldn’t affect the baby whatsoever 🤍

By the time I found out I was pregnant, I was 15weeks along. I had been on the pill that whole time, antibiotics that shouldn't be had while pregnant and had celebrated 2 birthdays with nights out drinking. Not once did my doctors show as much concern over being on the pill as they did about the other two things.

The doctor said he would give it to her but didn't want her to fill it, and he would be watching to see if it was filled at a pharmacy, which I'm pretty sure it was. The OBgyn she visited did take an ultrasound and could identify a heartbeat of the baby. But this was only a very brief ultrasound just to confirm the pregnancy, he did not do a thorough check-up of the babys overall health. Dr. White said, the heartbeat is the last thing that stops, but the baby could have been in serious distress and danger before. The next point that indicates that the baby was stillborn is the fact, that although she had cramps and labour pain, she did not have to push, the baby simply 'fell out', the umbilical cord detached. She did not have to cut the cord. Dr. White said this happens when the cord is very thin and fragile, and such a thin and fragile cord is not able to nourish the baby anymore. Also when she was asked about the afterbirth, she said there was none. This indicates that the placenta was already dead and small. There is no way you can oversee a healthy placenta, because it is suprisingly big and the mother would normally have to push it out with one or more pushes. I think all these points together indicate very strongly to Skylars version that the baby was stillborn. She also said it did not breathe, did not move, had eyes closed and the body was white. Only when the police investigators started to mess her memory up with questions like: Are you sure she did not move, not even a little? She looked at them confused and whispered, may be a little....

@@stephaniemitchell8509 No, this is not proof. The doctor told her she is 32 weeks pregnant and the baby was due in about ten weeks. So she obviously must have thought she had some time to figure everything out. She clearly stated, she did not want to have the baby and raise it. But this does not allow the conclusion that she planned to 'kill' it. The doctor wanted her to come back for a follow up appointment in couple of days. Then he wanted to talk options through with her, like give the baby up for adoption. There was also a possibility she would change her mind and would come to the point to tell her parents and even maybe to keep the child. For a teenage mum with an unplanned pregnancy it takes some time to process the news and think it through. Nobody knew that she was already in week 39 and expected that she would give birth only ten days later, not even the doctor.

A lighter wouldn’t get hot enough to even begin the cremate a body so I can’t fathom why she would try it and 2. The smell. There’s no way if she had attempted to burn the body that no one in the house wouldn’t have noticed a smell even hours later if they weren’t home when she attempted to do it.

I’m conflicted on this one. From the texts it sounds like her mom could have been one of those mom’s that was more concerned about image and maybe unconsciously passed that behavior onto her daughter. Thus why Skylar did what she did to her new born. Because she wasn’t sure how her mom would react. We can never be certain. On the other hand her mom could have been one of those overbearing mothers who meant well but didn’t raise her daughter feeling like she could tell her mom everything. In the end it was Skylar’s actions that indicted her. Not defending the mom, just bring up other possibilities. Some moms can be tough and scary but also understanding if given the chance. But often children only see the scary side and are unaware what their parents really mean.

It's so nice to see compassion for Skylar. 44 years ago, my mother hid her pregnancy with me. Her pregnancy was discovered 4 days before I was born. She was 16, and my grandmother was one of the most tyrannical, abusive, evil individuals I have ever known. I can only imagine how terrified my mother was. She still, at over 60 years old, carries the guilt and shame as if it happened yesterday. I think it's very traumatizing when a girl or woman has to hide a pregnancy. If you're a parent, I hope you've made it known to your daughter (and/or son) she can come to you for anything, because you never know what could happen.

there is an entire school of thought called prison abolitionism, that our society should move away from the idea of punishing people by sticking them in shitty prisons and towards actually helping people, preventing crimes, rehabilitating people. This is definitely one of those cases that could be used to illustrate that point. I dont think this girl is necessarily a danger to anyone if she getes away from her parents, gets counseling, and gets serious birth control. What if society had a better attitude towards sex, pregnancy, and reproductive rights? This probably would never have happened. Part of prison abolitionism is stressing PREVENTION of crimes ever happening, with things like that. Even if you think abolitionism goes too far, there is something to be said for prison reform and crime prevention (with things like I mentioned, trying to support teen girls like her so such things wont happen. Safe havens were invented with this intent and have saved lives).
