Summary: Don't forget to leave a 👍 1. Avoid sugars and starch 2. Avoid grains 3. Avoid vegetable/seed oils 4. Avoid processed foods (eat whole, real food) 5. Avoid alcohol 6. Be cognizant of medication you take. Strong course of antibiotics may negatively effect gut bacteria. Prebiotic perhaps? Beware of PPI and anti-depressants. 7. Eat more meat and eggs. Bonus: 1. Avoid artificial sweeteners. 2. Avoid treated water, reverse osmosis filter recommended. Thanks for the info Doc, you're awesome.

She cooked everything fresh; no processed foods...no fast foods in her lifetime, except during her last 50 years. Never needed prescription drugs, except short term, for infections. I don't remember her eating Kimchi, but it's part of my daily requirements! Or fermented Sauerkraut - 1-2 T, daily!

I got alpha gal syndrome from a tick last July. This ended my 5½ years of carnivory for a year. My gut was tore up! Hospitalized and bleeding out, couldn't eat any kind of meat. I started fermenting my milk, drinking kombucha, eating fermented sauerkraut and doing all I can not to vomit again or have diarrhea. It was a devastating nightmare. A messed up gut will change you life and so can a healthy gut. I'm back to carnivore again. I've healed tremendously. ♥ Sometimes, medicinal intervention beyond the scope of meat is necessary.

For future reference, it's also a good idea to take saccharomyces boulardii, this is a beneficial yeast that is very shelf stable and obviously is not affected by antibiotics, it preserves the butyrate production and hence protects your gut to some extent during antibiotics. I took antibiotics for a week after wisdom teeth issue, and I had no side effects, no microbiome issues afterwards.

I was hoping you'd talk more about lacto-fermentation, the way our ancestors preserved foods before refrigeration. It's easy to do at home. The bacteria feed on the starches, so even if you start with a starchy vegetable, once we eat it, the starch is greatly reduced. Plus, we eat those beneficial bacteria at the same time to refresh our gut microbiome. I have noticed that as I weaned myself off of sugars, I learned to appreciate the sour flavors in these lacto-fermented foods more.

People don’t understand that diet is completely INDIVIDUAL. gut microbiome advice isn’t a one size fits all pill. Best thing to do is get a BioScan, and see the allergens, parasitic traces, what minerals are you short or excess of in your body. I went to the doctor recently because I suspected either a kidney stone or UTI. I mentioned a UTI I had almost 30 years ago that was very bad and almost killed me so he gave me a shot of rocefin (sp.) and prescribed two more antibiotics! I didn’t take the other two. A month later I was experiencing a great deal of pain which turned out to be a stone. The ER doctor applauded me for not taking the other two antibiotics. He said young doctors and some old ones prescribe them unnecessarily. I had just started my ketovore journey and felt that one shot set me back horribly but I pushed through it and feel great now.

The Physician's Choice probiotics you recommend have been amazing. After taking antibiotics for a tick bite I wanted to get my gut microbiome back as soon as possible so I got the recommended brand in the show notes. I thought my gut was good before the tick bite antibiotic protocol because I make my own probiotics and eat them every day, but the Physician's Choice brand has been a game changer for me in quantifiable ways. Obviously, a more stable restroom schedule, but that is the least of my improvement. I had blood pressure improvement, mitochondrial improvement that has improved my stamina, I really didn't have edema, just a little swelling around my ankles by the end of the day, but it's much better now. I read a randomized controlled trial in human men that suggested reduced prostatic swelling with regular probiotic use and if this keeps improving I can stop taking tamsulosin. The exciting part is that this is all after only 4 days of taking it!

Good summary. It is very hard for most people to avoid grains altogether. We try to eat only whole grains because the complex carbs break to down simple sugars more slowly, which is a disadvantage for growth of bad rapid-growing, sugar-eating microbes in the gut.

Thanks for this Dr. Berry and I know you have an audience who is well up to speed on optimum health but I am stunned that some people I speak with do not realize Breads and Pasta = sugar. Not sweet but breaks down that way. I've been looking at those the same as candy for years. Potatoes too. And carrots even. Beets BUT those last 3 I don't eliminate completely. Good stuff in them. Bottom line sugar feeds the bad bacteria in the gut. I tell my 7 year old to stop feeding the bad guys! Or better yet ask him "Do you want to feed the good guys or the bad guys?" Good luck!

Before that I would suffer from terrible bloating and pain every 2 or 3 days now it just doesn’t happen . I also heard that you need lots of veggies for a good microbiome which I very rarely eat these days . This had me a bit worried but I guess the proof is in the pudding for me . Actually I find lots of veggies also leave me feeling bloated and uncomfortable. Thank you for all your support on you tube . It has helped me immensely.. blessings to you and your family ✌️🌻

I understand no sugar, no starches, etc. will be the best thing I can do for my microbiome. However, is it also a plus to eat real yogurt and fermented foods like sauerkraut, real fermented pickles (not just ones you buy at store in vinegar)? I was told by a friend I should also add a tablespoon of fermented pickle juice to my cup of bone broth (when its heated up and ready to eat). I don't like fermented foods so they thought that would help me get more fermented juices into my system. Good idea or waste of time?

Good question. I’ve had sibo for years, have finally started to get better by increasing my stomach acid. I was on acid blockers for years which kept sibo going strong. Low fodmap diets are not meant to live on but it does give relief. The trick is treating the root cause of sibo to get rid of sibo. Mine was low stomach acid and no gallbladder. I take apple cider vinegar digestive pills before eating and sometimes a gallbladder digestive pill after eating. The other key is to follow more of an intermittent fasting schedule. Have 12 hours from last eating to breakfast the next day and have 3-4 hours between meals during your eating window. This allows the digestive process to get through its complete cycle and keeps insulin response lower. Not snacking is big and sticking to just water or add only lemon between meals while treating sibo is important. I hope this helps.

watching this while eating my lunch ...boiled egg, beef liver, & sardines... if only id started eating like this years ago, then maybe i wouldnt have dropped from 225 lbs to 130 lbs (6 foot male) & spent a couple years feeling like i was dying & couldnt gain weight to save my life (quite literally) because i was eting anti-acids & antibiotics like they going out of style per doctors orders... which only made things much worse... these well-meaning "doctors" (aka window licking morons) dang near killed me with the subscriptions of these things... it was only when, by the grace of god, that i discovered "clean eating" of good foods, whole foods, & NO SUGARS! that i started feeling like a human again... thank god for good guys (& i dont even hold it against him that hes a doctor haha) like ken berry whose out here saving lives! god bless yall
