If you liked this, you should watch Murder by Death, another 80s movie. It's a send-up of famous literary detectives--see if you can recognize who they're spoofing. Also if you haven't seen Young Frankenstein, with Gene Wilder, IT'S A MUST!!! The lady who plays Mrs. White is in it. Equally hilarious.

So many people in this movie moved on to ridiculously successful careers. Tim Curry went on to star in the box office flop Oscar - which needs to be put on trial because I am interested in your thoughts.

@@teapotsaway Yes, please do "Oscar", more people should know about it! It's always branded as Stalone's worst, but it's silly and funny and great, it knows what it is. Even if the judgment is bad, I think a lot of people would actually enjoy it. It gets overlooked because it's not what you'd expect from Sly, and it's really a shame.

My husband and I went to see Clue performed at our local Theatre on their final day. It was fun to see on stage. I remember the Set Designer played the secretly gay guy and accidentally ripped off the front door handle during the final say. They ended up going through ALL of the potential endings in one go with "Actually, this is what happened!" One thing that did bother us was during the Scooby-Doo doorway gimmick scene, they went like a whole 2 minutes. That's way too fucking long to show 8 people walking around going through different doors repeatedly. And having worked with the director in the past for shows, I knew his thought process was "if we do it long enough, we can beat a dead horse. Do it longer and it will be funny again." But it didn't get funny again. Now that my brother in law is auditioning for his college's performance of Clue, we may go and see it again! (Hopefully with a better director...)

One of the things I love about Clue is how much care they put into incorporating things about the board game into the film. The lay out of the ground floor of the mansion is the same as the board game and the secret passages take the same path. In the exterior shots, when you can see the cars, their vehicles are all the colors of their pieces in the game (both as a nod to the game and as a possible hint as to why the blackmailer chose the pseudonyms that he did). And when you watch the three ending sequentially, the point where it picks up after the last ending finished and get a new reveal is in the entrance to the basement, which is where you need to go in the board game to guess the killer/room/weapon. Plus I mean, the line “communism was just a red herring” only gets better with age.

I forget that this movie was a flop because it's so beloved. But also, every single actor is such a talent, and so much fun, and you're right that a lot of the comedy holds up (higher percent than most 80s films). Just love Clue. Those chaotic explanations are gold. I’m 29, I had this movie on vhs when I was kid and we watched it probably every few days, the acting talent is INSANE, if you’re not familiar with some of those actors you should look up their work, like Madeline Kahn or Michael Mckeen. It’s SO funny, starts so subtle and then just flies off the rails, and it’s a masterclass in comedy character work. You know who all these people are and you love it. None of this is even mentioning Tim Curry; WOW what a brilliant performance. When he weeps because his wife had friends who were socialist I actually died. Critics in the 80s didn't like the movie because of the three endings. If you went to see it in theatres, you only saw ending a, b or c. It caused a people to get huffy when they learned that they only saw one of the three possible endings. Theatres only received one version and so if you wanted to see all three endings, you needed to go to different theatres to accomplish it. This is what caused the poor reviews even though when it came out on video it had all three endings in succession.

Yes, one of my favorite movies! I absolutely love the multiple endings. On my DVD it gives the option to play all 3 or play an ending at random. I love the random because no matter how many times I watch, it’s still a surprise each time. Ever since I saw this movie, I always wished there were something like this in a theater. So as you watch you make decisions for how the movie would go (like Black Box: Bandersnatch, but in a theater????). Either you choose your own outcomes, or the outcome for someone else watching. I don’t know. But this movie is so much fun and the whole cast is amazing. Tim Curry really did great in this film!

My dad actually introduced me to clue when I was younger and I've loved it ever since! I love murder mystery and I have the board game in my room. Sadly no one else in my family are really into it. The movie is on like amazon prime and It is my go too movie when i want a good laugh. The final explanations are my favorite parts. Just chaos.

This was one of those movies my high school theatre teacher would throw on on lazy days. It's one of the first times I think I realized what Camp was

Clue is great! My sisters and I used to watch it all the time when we were in high school and it's still one of our favorites. It's so ridiculous and makes me laugh no matter how many times I've seen it. And I love the multiple endings! It's just such a fun little thing to add and it feels like playing the board game when you're 85% sure of the answer just trying to guess so no one else wins before you. It's just a fun movie.

Clue is a fun Halloween theme party movie to throw up in the background as well! But I love Kennie's idea of playing the game and watching it and maybe dressing up and getting toasted.

Watched this movie for the first time last year! And as an avid clue player as a child I was surprised I had never seen it. I’m almost glad I didn’t though because I feel like as an adult I appreciate it more. Loved it!
