If you're interested in learning more about the psychology of each person from this season and picking up on how each person is functioning in each relationship, Psychology in Seattle does episodes of reality TV shows like Love is Blind, 90 day fiancé, etc. It's so interesting to see a relationship therapist go into detail with each interaction and how to handle the situation better if you were going through that. Omg yes - that was scary but also bugged the everlasting sh!t out of me. "TELL ME" "i just - " "TELL ME" - rinse, repeat for 5 minutes. Like dude, if you actually gave her a smidgen of a chance to say more than literally 2 words, she would *tell* you! She was actively trying to answer you, stfu for more than 2 seconds so she can say more than "I just" and you'll find out! Although thinking about it for a bit more, I'm wondering if this was him actively trying to prevent her from saying how she feels cos he didn't want to hear anything other than total subjugation - she had some actual, important issues with him that were more than likely *very* valid, and he doesn't want to hear that, ever. The way he acts honestly makes me also wonder how he was in his previous relationship... What happened to him was truly awful, but this kinda spiralling into being abusive and how his mother spoke about his issues makes me wonder if that was perhaps something apparent during his previous marriage... I hope Colleen gets out stat and safely, I fear for her, truly.

As a Yoruba woman (SK is Yoruba) watching that scene with Raven in the gèlè shop made me cringe to the depths of my soul and I'm reminded of why I generally refrain from dating Yoruba men. I was raised in that sort of household and you can imagine the stress and trauma I experienced, especially being the oldest daughter and oldest child of the family. Everything they said to her, unfortunately, are expectations that people have of wives in Yoruba societies. It's heartening of course that SK reassures Raven that she is enough as she is. It's not often that a man will take his wife's side. More often than not, they usually just say things like "you know how it is with family" etc, if they're not joining in with the antagonization.

If Matt is abusive (and all signs point to it) then its not uncommon for victims of domestic abuse to have trouble keeping jobs as their partner gets more controlling over what they do, where they go, who they are allowed to associate with. I've heard stories about victims being forced to quit their jobs because their partner didn't like that they worked with a male, and couples having to move so that the abusee (is that a word?) is farther from her support system and more reliant on their partner.

Cole being surprised that Zanab only ate a banana and peanut butter all day especially after offering her something to eat and she declining led me to believe that Cole convincing Zanab to eat a salad could have been him trying to get her to eat something rather than him controlling what she was eating. But we’ll never know because there’s no footage to get the context. After that cutie incident it’s all about context with these 2.

Nono what do you mean?? He still pointed out how she was eating 2 cuties anyway which is awful to do. Also the fact she declined food means there's even more of a reason for him to believe she hadn't eaten anything. And let's not forget that he constantly said she wasn't attractive so it's not much of a stretch to believe her that he was body shaming her so for all we know she might e declined that good for fruit cus she was feeling insecure.
@tosinakin25082 жыл бұрын
Cole is very much the type of person to create a bad situation and then be surprised by the consequences of his actions. He seems like the kind to stick his leg into your path and be surprised when you fall. Like Kennie said, he is reckless with his words and actions, and he either genuinely doesn't or chooses not to see how they affect people. I have no doubt he offered her food at least once or twice out of concern or courtesy, but he also failed to realize she was refusing to eat because of how his words were affecting her.
@Sagacypher2 жыл бұрын
@@princessofhell4639 The whole point of that cuties backlash was that wasn’t awful at all. Zanab’s insecurities is what unfortunately led her to distort that conversation. The ENTIRE point was that he wasn’t monitoring or critiquing her food intake, he was making a very casual heads up about saving your appetite for the big dinner which is a common phrase that everyone says. Everyone from therapists to neuroscientists to Kennie herself said it very clearly was completely absentminded and would only affect those that have those type of insecurities, and you need to realize that two realities can exist. A person who doesn’t have any food insecurities wouldn’t care which is why it’s objectively not a bad thing. If you watched then you would know she indeed took it the wrong way because of her complex with food.

My problem with this is that he already already told what he did wrong and in 2 cases it was for the same situation i.e. the Colleen situation which she led him to believe she'd gotten over only to rehash the situation after talking to Matt in which, mind you, nothing new was even discussed. So she basically got mad for literally no reason and then when she realised she had no leg to stand on she started blaming Cole again even though at this point he'd done NOTHING wrong. Also, unlike Zanab, Cole at the very least took accountability, she never once did, like literally not once, she always had an excuse and found some way to explain away her bullshit. Cole is no doubt a man child, painfully immature and managed to put his foot In his mouth too many times, the difference between him and Zanab is that he was never vindictive about ANY of his flaws whereas zanab was vindictive in damn near every way. She asked cole repetitively to rate her beauty and question how she looked. Because cole is immature he was wrong in the way he responded to those question. Now did he answer those question with malicious intent absolutely not. And the moment he realized that his words which were probably intended to be light hearted and fun deeply hurt Zanab he switched up and focused on making himself a better man for her. Even in those moments Zanab still acted so condescending and angry. What pissed me off about Zanab was when she got to the wedding and acted so happy and giddy, even going as far to say she wanted to kiss him AND THEN going and saying all those nasty things. God, that fear of guys like Matt is so real. I lived with a dude like that as a roommate, a really sensitive guy who was BADLY hurt early on and has subsisted on the blood pouring from that wound ever since, and they're scarier than narcissists to me. In their mind, the pain they were put through justifies anything they could do in the future and guarantees them permanent victim status even when they've fully moved on to hurting others.

Specially after saying so many times that he wants a non traditional wife… that just didn’t add up for me. I also felt he could have been more supportive with the whole her family not wanting to be at the wedding thing. 'This isn't fun anymore' perfectly encapsulates my thoughts on the final few episodes. I have way too many opinions on the love lives of these strangers. I need to talk to my real life friends more. All in all, I think your review was fairly temperate in your judgements of everyone. They definitely need more self awareness. I wish they played the 'cuties' interaction in front of Zanab. I often think about how much editing influences the way we view the couple's interactions. Nancy might be too nice for her own good. Very surprised that Matt and Colleen got married/is still married- I'm glad you mentioned how they totally swept Matt's behavior under the rug. I wish Andrew came on, I needed more moments of levity; he's unintentionally hilarious.

I think that they avoided talking about Matt´s behavoir to somewhat protect Colleen, because she has to deal with his reactions in private and from what we´ve seen he doesn´t really react properly. What Kennie said about Zanab having to grow up quickly is true. Zanab said it herself in episode 1 or 2 when she spoke about the death of hr dad when she was 13 and how it forced her into growing up quickly so her teenage years were her grieving years. Perhaps that's why she also was more impatient with Cole. I, too, would lose my mind if I dated someone as childish as Cole. Different strokes for different folks 🤣

I was just as blindsided by Zanab as Cole was, to be honest. I was never a big fan of Cole. He always kind of made me cringe, but he is also very childlike and I think there are so few people in the world who are able to be that open and silly, that I, in a strange way, appreciated his playfulness (when it wasn't totally immature and disrespectful). However, I also thought that Zanab was a nice girl who just had some control issues. She did seem genuine to me when she insisted that she loved Cole and I thought I knew where she was coming from. Then, at the wedding, I was totally shocked. I thought one of them might say no because they have so many problems, and it's clear that they did rub each other the wrong way and hurt each other a few times throughout the process, but I never expected her to turn on him and humiliate him like she did. I thought it was so out of line. That could've and SHOULD'VE been a conversation they had privately. Especially when it comes to what she said at the reunion about him policing her food. Why the hell did she not bring that up in conversation with him? Why did she WAIT until he was exposed in front of family and friends during the wedding and in front of everyone at the reunion to bring up MAJOR problems she was having with him??? I also think the editing did us WAY dirty. I would be so curious to see what their interactions were actually like and how much he was ACTUALLY immature and making her feel insecure versus how much she was ACTUALLY so controlling and nit-picky with him. Also, the reunion episode was just terrible in general. There was no reason for them all to gang up on Cole the way they did. They all did shitty things but for some reason it became the "bully Cole" party. Imo, if they really had to bully someone, it should've been Bartise.

haven't finished yet, but the part you mentioned talking about Zanab having this "fine I'll do it myself" complex and the the fallout that comes from living that way just really resonated with me (as someone who's also had to mature fast and had to rely on myself a lot), you've just been dropping facts these past few months (edit) finished! man, this show, its just... wow... like, I get where Zanab is coming from, when someone you are vulnerable with has constantly made you feel lesser (especially when you are already so insecure) not only did she want to tell him how she felt, but she wanted to humiliate him in front everyone bc she thinks that's what he "deserves" for how he's treated her. but I agree with you, it was uncalled for and really malicious. no matter how much someone has hurt you... God, so many layers... I guess even if she understands he's shit, she just can't let him go until he really "gets" what she went through, so bc he humiliated and degraded her, she won't feel satisfied unless she puts him through the same thing, ie on the altar. but that's the thing about having an "eye for an eye" policy, is it just drags you down with them. Idk if all that made sense, but yeah. 10/10 vid always love your takes on these toxic romance shows and movies, keep up the good work!
