Axial Capra Upgrade Series - Vader Skid and Hobbywing Fusion

After taking the Capra out to Proline by the Fire 2022, I definitely started to see some limitations to the low hanging belly. I was driving around with some 4WS Capras, and that is also something definitely in store for the future on this rig. In this video, I replace the stock skid with the Vader skid as well as replace my Hobbywing Axe 2300kv with the older version Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion 1800kv. A little down on power, but that's alright.

If you dumb thosed button head screws that attach the skid to the cage and replace them with SHCS you get twice the size allen key socket

Did you like the fusion more than the axe in the end? Pros and cons to both. Those were the two options I was going for

I actually do. I like the space savings of the fusion, and I don't use some of the other programmable features that the Axe has. The Fusion basically covers all I would need for crawling and I definitely like the fact that I don't need to worry about putting the ESC somewhere.

now to figure out how to gear it down below an 11 tooth. i ordered underdrive diff gears.

You can get it down to 10t if you use a different screw with a smaller head for the motor mount.

@RevolutionX actually picked up a vitavon transmission. Am running a 9 tooth with underdrive. The 8 tooth was loud as he'll. The 9 tooth runs really quiet

Connecting the Vader skid back to the car (4 screws ) are they the original screws or do you get new 1s with the skid?

They are the original screws.

My memory sucks, but I don't believe I needed to buy any screws. I'm pretty sure you can re-use everything you already have. I think some screws and lock-nuts are provided for the link mounts, but other than that, you should have everything.

So the Hobbywing fusion 540 fits in the stock skid?

No, you'll run into issues with the link mounts. Well actually it depends on if you have the older Fusions or the newer fusions. The older Fusions were a little longer and wouldn't fit unless you use an aftermarket skid. The newer Fusions are shorter, and those might actually fit.

@@RevolutionX I actually put in the newer one last night but had to shave the link down a little more than I would have liked. It works but I’m mentally prepared for it the plastic to break after a hard fall lol.

I don't know for sure, but if it's the size of a 540 can it should.
