@@mimiii1788 depends. CBT successful often. I worked in a counselling agency where DV perps were sent by court order. There was a great counsellor in the program who changed crims with restraining orders and deadbeat Dads into decent, remorseful but positive men. Low rate of recidivism. But I agree, most are recalcitrant and can't accept reality or responsibility.

A lot of times, neighbors, good samaritans or passers by don't get involved in domestic arguments for good reasons. I had a neighbor at the house I grew up in, and he was a nice, loving, and kind man. He had a Harley and he often went out to the motorcycle bars around town. He was a tough looking, bigger guy. His name was Jimmy. He was out one night on his Harley and was cruising and wound up at a bar. He overheard a man and a woman fighting, and finally he ended up seeing the man punch the woman several times and the woman cowering in a corner after. The man continued to hit the woman and finally Jimmy walked over and started getting on the man, and asking the woman if she was okay and if he could help her. The man stabbed Jimmy, killing him. And the worst part, in my opinion, is when Jimmy first went up to them, the woman started talking smack to Jimmy. He tried to rescue her and lost his life over it. I know this information so well because his brother, who also lived in the house next door, was there with him and later told us all that had happened. So so tragic

It's a village of 4,200 people. The Chief of Police was crooked. Many small town departments are not worth calling because memories are long and you may end up being harassed and investigated. Add in the fact that some PDs still downplay domestic abuse and I can completely understand why she did not call.

We passed by an alleyway and witnessed someone beating and stabbing another person. I stopped the car and asked my passenger if we should do something. He just laughed and said, "You wanna get stabbed, too, gringo?" I said ,"What? What do you mean?" I thought he was threatening me for a moment. He then explained, "Never try to save someone because no one will save you. Easiest way to die in this world is to get between a violent person and their victim." I said, "Should we call the police, at least?" The mob boss said, "You wanna be a witness in court?" That's when I understood, it's just not worth it to try and be a hero.

I’ve always been a huge fan of yours Dr. Grande! This case hits quite literally home- it happened in my hometown and I remember it really well. Carrie’s cousin was my third grade teacher and I remember her spending many hours a day crying at her desk. Vincent’s father was a very well connected man and sort of ran a small town mafia to where no one crossed him. It’s rumored that he said “she’s in so many different places, they’ll never find her”. Not sure how true this is but everyone has their theories about what happened to Carrie. It’s a heart breaking story and I appreciate you covering it!!

I'll never forget this case; I remember seeing it on the local news back when it happened, when I was a kid. I grew up and still live about ten minutes away from where it happened. I think this was one of the reasons I'm interested in true crime still today.

Having had a violent relationship many years ago, sometimes when you do “wake up” to the facts, getting away from them is extremely difficult, sometimes impossible. Even without kids (thankfully) the protagonist will stalk, threaten, destroy what you like/love, purely to intimidate you into a nervous wreck. Luckily for me, I got away, but not unscathed. I still look over my shoulder and have some anxiety issues around other people. However, I did get far away and I’m ever thankful for that. Violent people are not toys, fixable or ever any much fun to be around. Violent people that use substances, alcohol are like playing with fire. Choose your romantic partners (and friends) VERY CAREFULLY, or be prepared to get far, far away from the start, just incase. There is so much crime going on the police just can’t cope and crimes against a person, can slip through the cracks.

I am not saying that he tried to kill me, we just had a small fight in class that got out of hand. The village has divided because of this case. I'm very aware that people can use what used to be called black humour as a way of coping with traumatic issues and don't know how Dr Grande handles it at times. I had to stop watching most of his videos, along with some True Crime ones (I got involved in the horrendous case of the four students who were murdered in Idaho), because it was way too much to deal with! My family definitely intervened, & probably saved my life….. I never looked back, ever & still gives me ‘the creeps’ to this day.

​@@lauriestump7134 I completely understand why it's hard to flee from an abuser. One reason could be financial, maybe there is a great imbalance, maybe the victim feels she can't survive on her own. Another reason could be fear of the unknown, maybe she feels it's better to stay where she is rather than procure a room with strangers. Another reason could be confusion and a misguided sense of love. Some abusers are very apologetic and charismatic and possess a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde persona confusing the victims conflicting emotions. In other words, when things are good they are good, when they are bad they are bad. I've only touched on a few reasons, but I get it, and yes, danger associated with leaving is a huge factor. Most control freaks don't take the victim trying to escape very well. So the victim feels trapped.

People you never really know. While living in Reno, Nevada I knew an interesting and polite man ( at times ) in his mid twenties. He was charming, handsome, a very good dancer and had several on-and-off girlfriends. He took a liking toward my wife, she was a good friend of his parents. She was like a second mother. There was something about him that made me not like him, like his bravado, his untamed lies, claiming he done everything under the sun. One day he asked why I did not like him, and I said your just an arrogant, self- centered person, without understanding of love and friendship. Your just empty. He smiled. That's me. But nobody believes it. He was found guilty of rape and murder of mother of two. He stabbed her 19 times in the neck and chest, leaving her body near the university. I saw him that morning after the murder. He looked dazed, his eyes glassy. He was throwing clothes into a dumpster. I figured he had been out drinking all night. I went on to work. Three days later he was arrested. He was also charged with numerous rapes he confessed too. He received life in prison.

Your story is well-written and creates a clear picture. My stepdad counseled people just like him, in prisons. One really got him believing he had made progress with him, and that he was reformed. My stepdad felt good, seeing him at the grocery store with his wife, who had stood by him, after he was let out. Within 3 weeks, the parolee SA’d and took the life of a young mother in his apartment complex, in front of her small daughter. It’s chilling, who we don’t know we know. My stepdad related this story as dinner table conversation, when I was a teen. It made a lasting impression but, sadly, our kids do need to know.

I work in the prison Vincent is at- He still talks about it to this day claiming his innocence. He claims they offered to take his life sentence and lower it if he told where the body is- he claims he is doing life because he cannot answer that because he didn’t do it. His mother and step father drive hours to see him still to this day. Very sweet woman.

He told me the same and I also seen an interview with the prosecutor and he even said they offered the deal. So with that why wouldn’t he say. His father has passed so no need to use that as a reason to stay silent. Crazy. Or maybe he really didn’t do it.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. I was married to the niece of the deputy chief of police of a town in Oklahoma. Plus she decided to have an affair with a tribal police officer. Plus her aunt worked at the county courthouse and knew all the judges and the DA. Well needless to say I was arrested in our house AFTER an argument. Which was COMPLETELY verbal!!! I was arrested for domestic violence. Which I can prove if a judge would allow me to. (This all happened more than 20 years ago.) I was also unaware that my attorney was friends with her mother. Which I found out AFTER taking a plea. I took the plea because I ran out of money for an attorney and after being gone and out of her and our children's lives for about six months. She wanted me to come home. Which tbh was all I wanted at the time. I just wanted my family back!!! The plea was the fastest way to get back home. Obviously everything fell apart again. But now I've lost ALL my 2A rights. Which is BS. I'm NOT a felon!! The plea was for a misdemeanor and the DA said my 2A rights were lost ONLY while I was on probation and didn't get into any further trouble. Because I know for a fact the last sentence is "She shows no sign of any injuries and refused any and all medical attention." That doesn't sound like someone who just got "beat up" by their husband!!

After talking to my attorney here in Texas, I wasn't aware that after 5 years I could have requested a hearing to get my 2A rights. But I don't just want that, I want my record wiped clean. That plea is the ONLY thing I have on my record. Aside from a couple traffic tickets, that I have paid.

People, don’t waste your time with violent partners who do not acknowledge their problems and do not seek or benefit from help!! I say this because some go to therapy and claim the therapist says they are justified in what they do. They use it to further gaslight victims. One way or another, you will suffer greatly for no benefit. Surround yourself with nice people, even if that means there is only one person!

If someone claims a therapist said something which is hard to believe, ask to speak with the therapist or accompany them to a therapy session.

@@olilumgbalu5653 It doesn’t work like that. The therapist will not disclose what is said privately between therapist and client. In addition to this, the contract is between the client and therapist and the therapist is unlikely to allow the partner to accompany them due to it interfering with the therapy and making the situation more complicated. If you choose family therapy, this is a different matter, but the therapist undertaking family therapy will not enter into a contract of the situation is likely to become difficult and emotionally out of control in sessions.

I feel sorry for the dog that bit him in prison, I hope it got it shots to stop it catching anything from this vile specimen. He had the cheek to sue the prison service and was awarded 7500 in compensation. The good news is he is permanently disfigured because the dog bit off part of his nose and in constant pain as it damaged his nerves. It's a pity it didn't chew off the whole of his face.

Always the victim who is expected to pick up and leave their life, friends and family behind to get away. How about charging the guy with multiple assaults when there were so many instances reported by family and friends and pluck the offender out of society far, far away. If local police don't listen - report to the next level and the next until something is done about it. If we're taking time here to read about these things, and as professional people, why are we not providing a path forward to victims and asking for changes in our system when we get the chance instead of just reporting the gory details? Probably kind of like why neighbors didn't call 911 - good story but it stops there and no one else's responsibility to try to make changes/do something about these things? A violent partner is in the process of "murdering" the other partner the first time they offend against that partner and during the entire process of doing everything in their power to take the other person's freedom away. The definition of murder is, "kill (someone) unlawfully and with premeditation." Does not killing someone's spirit count because that's what is being done in these circumstances.

When I was in 6th grade, my friend who was a tomboy punched me in the stomache for no reason. She had a twisted sense of humor. She played basketball.
