Andy at one point says “I know this feels like a weird fan boy thing to say,” and that is what this whole review feels like. I don’t even think it is worth to review Star Wars any more because no one can remove themselves from the original trilogy. Brian Altano said it best, when you stop comparing everything to the original trilogy, you can enjoy that you are getting these awesome Star Wars stories, which is the whole point of these spin-off movies! I enjoyed this movie a lot, not expecting to. I respect the right of others to have differing opinions. But if you look at the fan ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, the “fanboys” don’t even want to give it a shot, I feel that happens here. * I saw it at one of the fan events last night and my theatre reacted strongly and applauded at the beginning, “that reveal,” and the end. So, maybe my experience was different.
@8bitdee
@8bitdee 6 жыл бұрын
That's a not a good argument. If they want to make good movies that are detached from the Star Wars trilogy, then make an original movie without using the Star Wars brand. They're making Star Wars movies for a reason. These side stories are still suppose to connect to the series that they're using as a selling point. They're suppose to feel as part of the universe. That means they have to make sense and be good. (granted Eps.1-3 are dogshit but now with Disney at the helm, better IS expected of them.) You can't remove yourself from the originals because the originals set the standard as to what a Star Wars movie should be. If you can't live up to that, then you didn't make "awesome Star War stories."

It doesn't matter if we know that the character dies, it matters if we know who they are at the end of it. Boba Fett and Lando are great fits for spinoffs because, while we have a rough idea of their personas, we aren't actually all to familiar with them - theres a lot more of an opportunity to build a character there. Han Solo is the most developed character in the OT and a darling of pop culture (probably one of the most influential character archetypes of all time). You can make a prequel movie with Han Solo, but not safely because so much of the character would have to be changed for the story to be worth telling and when you do that you are inevitably going to get everyone on the planet complaining that "that wasn't the han solo i know." so why even try?

"Where the fuck these dice come from" From street racing culture which George Lucas was a part of here in Northern California. Pilots in WWII would hang trinkets in their cockpits, a lot of guys would hang things they considered lucky. Poker chips, dice, coins, rabbits feet... This culture carried over into drag racing in California in the 1950s which is where the fuzzy dice come into place. George Lucas grew up in drag racing culture. Hence American Graffiti and his love and obsession with classic cars. All of George's characters are George Lucas at different points in his life. THX-1138 is about a man leaving a regimented controlled life and finding himself in the desert. American Graffiti is about George and all his friends figuring out what was next after high school. He's several characters... but George is mostly Han and Luke. Han was George during his drag racing days in Marin and Petaluma. Chewbacca is his dog Indiana who did attend races with him and would sit shotgun in his cars. George Lucas placed the dice there himself. That's his touch. Luke is George when he left home to go to film school. TLDR; George Lucas put the dice there himself as an homage to his past as a street racer.

Strong finish guys! LOL One point to be made, if you do take the time to watch that Darth Maul scene again, I believe he specifically shows the lightsaber because it is NOT his original one... but in fact, the one he used when he reappeared in the Clone Wars series. This movie definitely had its issues, but I went in with low enough expectations to actually enjoy it. P.S. all of my DVDs/Blu Rays are in storage. Is there anywhere to go back and watch all the X-Men movies? :(

But what’s done is done.

HM Christ dude... Deadpool is MAYBE a two hour movie, if they want to prioritize hour long kinda funny content over Deadpool 2 a week later its their own problem. Theres 168 hours in a week, and they likely work 40. NO sympathy there. To be honest I liked this movie. I only started catching up on Star Wars in 2015 because my boyfriend was surprised to hear I had never watched the movies before. I feel like because I don’t have the time experience that a lot of other fans have, I have less expectations and am surprised by whatever I see. I was nervous for this movie after hearing about some of the troubles with writing and directing. I was mostly Afraid because they brought an acting instructor in for the Solo actor. But I went to see it in theaters and was pleasantly surprised by it. I definitely know there’s some flaws ( there was a hard cut that I found unappealing, and some of the story was rough) but I really enjoyed it and feel its better than people give it credit for.

I'm happy with the choice for the next series. Unlike the MCU movies, there are X-men movies I've only seen once and some I completely skipped, so I'm looking forward to watching along with you guys. ANYWAYS, here's my take on why the cornerstone of the "Solo" movie, Han Solo himself, failed. It seemed to me like the studio was trying to go for a story about Han Solo before he became THE Han Solo. The one we know and love from the original trilogy. That explains why he wasn't so smart and funny, and whatnot. This was his origin story, this was him becoming Han Solo. So when the actor isn't able to deliver lines like the Han we know or why he just wasn't good enough to pull it off like Ford did, was probably in part because the direction he was given was "Okay, so you're playing a Harrison Ford character, so act like him BUT don't act TOO much like him because in this movie he hasn't become the Han we all love." So I think he had a hard time with that. That's problem one. The second problem with that premise is why the fuck would anyone want to watch a HAN SOLO movie where Han Solo isn't yet the Han Solo everyone loves? I think this is the biggest misstep Disney did. "Hey let's develop him! By first making him not fun or interesting!" You can develop him without turning him into a complete alien. Good writers can develop a character that already exists, by working with his attributes he already has. You don't have to strip him of the things that make him Han Solo. I don't understand why Disney thought this pitch was a good one: "Let's make a Han Solo movie, but get this... ready for it? He's not Han Solo yet, he's still just a dumb 20 year old. Everyone will love that!"

I think that going forward with Star Wars there is always going to be complaints about the movies. As fans we all thought about what new movies would be like for years and now that we are finally getting them it’s like they aren’t living up to what we thought. I think the best thing to do for them is to put aside what we wanted/ assumed we would get and just enjoy it.

Just got back from seeing Solo I went in with low expectations based on not liking TLJ but I really enjoyed Solo as a fan of the "Star Wars Universe" as a whole I've watched every film & animated series & this fit right in to the uni & grew the story more. I enjoyed all the preformances & had no issue with & have had no issue with the casting of Alden Ehrenreich as Han I think he did a fine job. Yes some of the writing/dialogue in parts were bad but I would recommend people see it in theater. I would go see it again. Is it the greatest Star Wars movie I've seen? No but I put it in a category of being good along with TFA & Rogue One. It's no TLJ thank god.

I loved Solo. It was easily the best of the Disney Star Wars movies!
