Two quick facts: Darth Maul was voiced by Peter Serafinowicz who is a member of the Nova Corps in GOTG, The Tick in The Tick, and Pete in Shaun of the Dead. The Naboo celebration theme at the end of the movie is the Emperor's Theme but in a major key.

While the movie is pretty bad, they had some gripes with stuff I found not that complicated or vague. They seemed to throw in “IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE” when they don’t like a movie inherently. Not defending the movie, but some issues weren’t as bad as they complained about. All that said, this movie didn’t do a lot, and it can be ignored completely in the trilogy.

To truly understand why the prequels were doomed from the start read How Star Wars Conquered The Galaxy. Its a great comprehensive book on Lucas, his influences and the development of every era of SW. The original trilogy, especially episode 4, was as good as it was because Lucas hung around his group of auteur directing/writing friends like Spielberg, Coppola (who he worked for) DePalma, Kasdan etc. During his writing process he was constantly getting feedback about his ideas. He had people tell him no, which is vital when creating. An artist needs at least 1 person that can tell them the truth no matter what. By the time Lucas was developing the prequels he could do no wrong. He only had yes men around him that stroked his ego & signed off on everything he did. No one could tell him “hey maybe you should not do that”. Also Star Wars (ep 4) was saved in post by Lucas’ ex wife & her editing skills. After filming everything Lucas thought he had a disaster on his hands until his wife saved him.
@MrZackavelli
@MrZackavelli Жыл бұрын
That's a complete myth that has been debunked a thousand times.
@langleymneely
@langleymneely Жыл бұрын
@@MrZackavelli Have you read the book? Lucas wasn’t completely hostile to criticism but between his need for full control and those around him finding it incredibly difficult to pass judgment on his work due to idolizing him for the previous 2 decades, production on the prequels was never going to be as successfully collaborative as the original trilogy. Art flourishes under restriction, critical feedback, and simply having another set of eyes on the project. Every artist needs to be challenged, if they aren’t and have free reign financially great successful artists on Lucas’ scale tend to flounder.

As to your discussion around 1:19:00 concerning the 'balance' of the force, what is interesting in this regards is that it seemed; at least initially, that The Last Jedi was going to explore this. The original trailer for The Last Jedi (which dropped in I think early-mid 2017, if I'm wrong then somebody please correct me) predominantly focussed on Luke and his apparent growing disillusionment with the entire idea of the force, implying that the original idea of 'balance' to the force as the Jedi understood it was wrong (actually putting it severely *out* of balance by destroying the Dark Side entirely) and that Luke was determined to put an end to the force as a whole; hence the prominent line of "the Jedi must end". I believe you guys actually discussed this ages ago in your reaction video to this trailer, although I can't remember the exact video. The film that we actually got in the end seemed to abandon this idea entirely, which I thought was a massive dissapointment, and clearly evidence that large parts of the film had been shot or reworked, hence the massive shift in Luke's character in the first and second parts of the film, when he returns to fight Kylo like nothing has changed and resume the same old dark/light paradign. Anyway, great video as usual guys, really enjoying the show!

the first fight between Maul and Qui Gon I always thought wasn't played out for Maul to kill Qui Gon, more so to serve as an announcement that the sith are back and scare them. The more I think about it the more I believe it because we see that he could have easily killed him then from the ending of the film but instead used one blade as a means to test him. Like had he killed him there would have been a hunt then for him and more jedi would have gone to Naboo but instead he waits until the droids in the city are dead to just walk in and surprise them when opening the door.

He may have wanted to put things into this that would appeal to a younger audience than the originals, but he just didn't have to do that. 6 year olds loved the original Star Wars as much as their older siblings. The kids in 1999 would have been won over without the Sesame Street level humour. Although one might argue that George's infatuation with baby humour started with Return of the Jedi.

I'm not really a star wars fan never was never will be and the first 6 films i had no interest of watching but i eventually did just so I saw them and I gotta say none of them bored me so i don't get why the hate for a perfectly fine film they each are..the phantom menace is probably the worst so like a 5.5/10 but thats fine it just has a lot of meh in the early part and middle that could of been cut out but its fine..to me thats a good enough film average....at this point reviewers and fans have turned into liars..you either enjoyed a film or didn't and when you don't and it becomes popular to hate on it and easy to criticize when others have made the points why its bad per say you get to copy them and claim its bad objectively cause you didn't like it so you lie and say oh the cgi sucks but for the time it didn't oh the acting sucks but it was slow on purpose to force drama cause this is not about heroism its about the rise of the empire or they claim it maks no sense yet its mostly explained whats going on so what are they talking about?..they just didn't care or paid attention...thats a them problem same for heavy defenders of any of the films they are all flawed so anyone saying they aren't needs to be objective...my biggest issue with the first one is theres no real villain like douku palps vader or anakin himself..maul is just so underdeveloped so him being the big bad made the end feel anti climactic cause we barley met him..otherwise it would be like a 6 and to me the best of the films empire is a 8.5 so its not that far off...its not like a 3.5 movie compared to a 9....lets relax there...the difference is just in story really...empire works cause its such a well written story..the rest is the same

Man, I tried my hardest NOT to watch the new SWTROS trailer 'cause I don't want to get spoiled by anything, but the crew's watch-through convinced me I was doing a disservice to myself, especially Tim's claim that it made him cry 3 times. I've gotta say, the previous trailer did it for me, filling my heart with splendor & rekindling my love for this iconic series, but sadly the new trailer just doesn't strike the same chord. The music is epic & the scale is palpable, though the first trailer is hands-down the best Star Wars trailer ever released & was the first one to ever make me legitimately bawl my eyes out. I truly wish I stuck to my guns & didn't watch this 'cause now I'm not nearly as stoked for the film's release as I once was.

While I still think Midichlorians are an explanation for the force we do not need overall, it wasn't as big a travesty as some have made it out to be. Midichlorians are microscopic lifeforms that live in all living cells, so literally everyone has them, but some have a higher concentration which explains why not just anybody can use the force. A person with a low midichlorian count could trust in the force with all of their being and still not be able to lift rocks off the ground. Midichlorians aren't what the force is made out of, they are just a way that some people are able to commune with it. Again, we would have been fully satisfied just thinking the force is mysterious, so I don't think we needed the explanation in the first place but as far an explanations go its not as terrible as you might have thought.

Qui-Gon - "He is to be trained then?" Mace Windu - "No, he will not be trained. He is too old" Qui-Gon-"No, fuck you. I will train him." Yoda-"Anakins fate will be decided later." Ughhhh, what?? Didnt you JUST decide his fate by saying "No, he will not be trained? What happened in that 10 seconds of dialogue that changed the council's mind?

if you have the time look up Anakin Skywalker auditions on youtube because there's this one kid who nailed the screen tests but for some reason lucas picked Jake Lloyd instead.

Anakin brought balance to the force when he killed the brother on mortis. Also it could be argued that the jedi were corrupt and there were too many of them so anakin brought balance to the force when he killed them all

I always thought he brought balance by there being 2 Jedi and 2 sith (not counting EU stuff which kinda broke that logic)
@derekolson2864
@derekolson2864 5 жыл бұрын
But like Nick pointed out why would they want the jedi and the sith to be balanced? That's a horrible thing if you're a jedi because all but two must die. It doesn't make sense logically
@HypeVectorPrime

@@derekolson2864 nobody ever said the jedi wanted it, just that it was coming. Also yoda later suggests they had misinterpreted the prophecy.

@@derekolson2864 I think it's more like the Force yields It so. The Force automatically brings balance by introducing Power players on both sides. Palpatine uses It to his advantage, having more forethought than Yoda, by seducing Anakin instead of killing him
@DarkElfPaladin
@DarkElfPaladin 5 жыл бұрын
@@derekolson2864 maybe they misunderstood what balanced meant. They thought it meant only Jedi as the balance but it actually meant balance between Jedi and sith. Which is a point Luke kinda makes in The Last Jedi

Does Naboo not make enough resources on they're whole planet to support the few cities they have? Forcing someone to sign a treaty is as legal as forging a signature so they might as well do that. Why did everyone in the Senate not believe in the invasion but immediately vote out the chancellor when he agreed with them? And why are there 4 battles going on at the same time at the end?

People in the twitch chat were freaking out that it was totally obvious that the dice was made to be rigged on red. How was that obvious? If you caught it, HOW was that supposed to be clear for the common audience? Wtf? I Was flabbergasted by that fact and then I looked at the chat and people were going off about how obvious it was.

I’m actually reading the novelization of this movie and I appreciate it a lot more, although I still think it’s the weakest out of the prequels. There’s a lot of little details that make the story more believable. For example, a probe droid spots Qui-Gon and Anakin as Anakin is saying his goodbyes. Qui-Gon destroys the droid and is like, “We need to get the FUCK out of here “
