The negative refers to the vector, if its negative, its on the left side of the equilibrium, if its positive, its the right side. Its actually mirrored in the middle, Vmax negative is equal to Vmax positive, just has an opposite direction. :)

I had the same question. I think for maximum velocity, we take the most negative value of the sine function, that is -1. So the negative signs multiply to give positive Aw. Same with maximum acceleration: we take the most negative value of the cosine function, -1.

for around 4:21 and 6:05 isnt it x = Acos(wt) (and x=-Acos(wt) )?... and then the graphs would be different too...
