Aww, thanks for the shout-out and the recipe! I'm so touched. ☺️ Many thanks to your mother from the bottom of my heart - truly. The kimpira gobo looks gorgeous, and I can't wait to cook it. BTW, my grandmother used to cook this for me all the time as a kid, but I didn't pay attention to her method. I'm so thrilled to be able to make this childhood favorite. OK, my votes are for nasu dengaku or spinach goma-ae. Again, I truly appreciate everyone at Tabi Eats. Thanks for sharing your culinary knowledge with us. Cheers!

BTW, I shouldn't get another vote for a recipe. Someone else should get their wish fulfilled. I just realized that after posting my comment that it was a bit greedy of me. I don't know; I'm so inspired by your mom's cooking! Many thanks again! Arigato gozaimashita.

Sanichi I'm making this dish tomorrow. I really miss these type of food after leaving the Hawaiian Islands17 years ago, and living in the mid west you don't find much authentic oriental foods. As you know you and I were very fortunate to live in the islands with a large diversity of different cultures and I made sure I paid attention when grandma, momma, and all the aunties were cooking. Mahalo for your shows on you-tube and say hello to Satoshi.

I have learned a lot about Burdock Root all my life but mostly in the last two months. My mom told me that my acne would go away if she could find burdock root blood bitters. Now your Mom cooks a lovely dish with burdock root. Looks delicious thank your Mom especially for me it was a joy to watch her. From Canada.! So I found a place where I can buy Burdock Root and I can make tea, tinctures and also eat just like this. WOW WOW WOW and it is so healthy for many parts of the blood and gallbladder and kidneys. Thank you.

This is the ultimate homecook dish: it is time consuming but prepared with love. I usually make kinpira with carrot, abura age and hijiki. your mom is so sweet! kinpira gobo reminds me alot of my obatchan! everytime I went to visit her, she had kinpira gobo ready in the table, among other comfort foods! I learned to make it just watching her, and the same method as your mom, so simple, fast and delicious with gohan (oh I miss gohan lol). It's not too dificult to find gobo here, if you go to a farmer's market, you probably will find, they already know we call 'gobo' in japanese, but sometimes we have to search for: bardana

You are so extremely lucky to have a mother of her generation accept and love you and your partner gay or straight. She realizes that you are her son and that she's always loves you so in her mind why should she stop loving you. Do you know how many young people today are throwing out of their houses or disowned usually by their fathers for being gay? It's worse today than it ever was. You are blessed and whenever you feel down or anxious you remember that blessing of your mother. :-) hugs from Maine.

I'm happy to watch your Mom make anything because I'm sure whatever it is would be good. Maybe if she hasn't done so already, what if she shows us how to cook HER☺️💕favorite meal? I want to say that my Mom's favorite meal was a Filipino dish called Pinakbet. It is a kind of mixed vegetable, pork, and seafood flavored stew. Depending on who made it and what region they were from, everyone would be just a little bit different. I always remember her cutting up the bitter melon and other ingredients to make it..it wasn't my favorite dish though😅I prefer regular chicken or pork adobo with plain white rice (my favorite Filipino dish)
