If you want to see a textbook example of "a kid in a candy store", any Kirk Hammett interview talking about guitars is one of them. I love the fact that such an iconic instrument is now being played live on stages around the world. I do remember when I saw Metallica for the last time, and Kirk was playing Greeny. I turned to my buddies, in awe, and said "damn, he's playing Greeny". They couldn't care less, probably like 97% of the audience, but it sure meant a lot for the remaining 3%. Thank you Mr Hammett for keeping that legacy alive.

He clearly still knows that it's a ridiculous price, probably even for him. That said, he actually sounds to be getting value and worth out of it. In his position, it's so easy to just be jaded and non-caring about material things, and he found something that still can make him panic and shed a tear if it gets damaged, just like someone buying their first nice guitar feels. Meanwhile, he could probably get an entire garage full of ridiculous cars and not feel half that or have half as much enjoyment from it. Good purchase.

One day, eventually, we're going to see The Red Special going to someone. Perhaps Brian has already bequeathed it to someone, some organization, who knows. But if it ever hits the market, there won't be an instrument, guitar or other, that reaches the $ amount the The Red Special will demand. All the other iconic guitars, The Gilmour Collection included, put together won't be as much as it will command. It will be in it's own classification.
