I'm not celiac but am allergic to wheat, wheat flour and spelt so rye is completely fine. I'm so sorry because if you're celiac you can't have them. So sorry about the confusion.

I am German and moved 22 years ago to London for my job. Just recently I went to a Booths in the Lake District. I absolutely loved it - it’s better than Waitrose in my opinion. I also love the fact that it is a family business - comparable to what we Germans call a Mittelstand business. This is very worthy of support.

I loved this video! Thank you so much for this tour and for showing us the prices and where the products are from. U.S. prices are the worst (except perhaps for Canada from what I have seen online). And we do not have the imported goods. In Europe and the Middle East, supermarkets import varieties from around the world. British clotted cream is wonderful but I never even knew it existed until I visited relatives living in Dubai. You would at least think the U.S. would have a few imports to choose from but there must be trade laws or tariffs that discourage it. It's a shame and U.S. corporate food interests need competition. They have a monopoly on our food supply and have it riddled with chemical additives that are terrible for our health. It needs to change! (Sorry for my rant against the food supply here in the U.S. but I need to vent about it). This gives all of us a vision of what supermarkets could and should be like around the world. As always, the two of you made my day. You are a ray of sunshine in this challenging world. Please stay who you are and congratulations on being on the verge of going over the 200k subscriber milestone!

@Lucinda_Jackson14 күн бұрын
I'm American and it very much depends on where you live and shop. I'm in the US and never have trouble finding imported goods. Clotted cream and double cream (only because you specifically mentioned it) were on sale this week at the store I went to this morning. And I don't live in a city. Just a small town in the South. We do have Indian, Chinese/Oriental Asian, Mexican/Central American groceries either locally or nearby as well as ones selling goods from other ethnicities and regions. Where I lived previously, there were several German and Eastern European and Ukrainian bakeries and stores. One German butcher expanded to include a small eating spot attached with a set menu of sausage or sliced meat meals and sides along with a few prepared main dishes for dinner that change daily. Delicious! Depends on where you are and whether you look for it. 😊
@dao880514 күн бұрын
@@KirstenJoerg I never got a notification of your response and only saw it now by chance. I live in the upper Midwest (Minnesota) and have lived in both large metropolitan areas as well as small communities and we have absolutely no imported goods aside from a few Thai and Vietnamese restaurants and tiny grocers and a handful of German restaurants. Our area of the country is traditionally composed mostly of Scandinavian and German immigrants, but supermarket offerings do not reflect that at all. Instead we have American food corporations filling the shelves with processed foods and the fresh produce sections are mediocre. It is the reason our food supply has become a political issue. I am happy for anyone has has a healthier and wider selection.

I live in Amish country in America, we have a very large Mennonite population as well. There are many family owned Amish markets here which are much less expensive than regular grocery store chains. They’re usually right next to their houses on their farms. We have a butcher shop that specializes in bratwurst, there are dozens of flavors, from apple bacon to (believe it or not) Gummi Bears! I admit I have thought of you both when trying to choose a flavor, wondering if you would enjoy them. Manuka honey is more expensive than other honey varieties because of its rarity, health benefits, and the cost of production. It's only produced in certain regions of Australia and New Zealand, and the bees sometimes need to be moved there. There's also a short flowering season of about 4-6 weeks per year. Manuka honey also undergoes rigorous certification processes and export demands. Manuka is expensive here in the USA also. Thanks to its antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, manuka honey can be used to help treat wounds, improve your oral health, soothe a sore throat and treat ulcers and acne.

That was a very tasteful tour of Booths. I’m glad you took your time so we could “have a nosey” (as we say up north) at the variety and prices. You did miss out on Fiddler’s crisps, especially the black pudding ones. They are made by a very small potato farmer near Southport where I grew up (which has recently been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons). Some Americans rated a ton of different UK crisps and several Fiddler’s ones came out on top. The soil around Southport is amongst the best in the country for growing vegetables such as potatoes and tomatoes. Booths isn’t for everyone, same as Waitrose, but even if things are tight, it’s great to be able to get something truly different to the other supermarkets that usually supports local producers too. It costs more, but at least the premium is going into immaculate stores and local pockets, instead of funding trucks to drive produce here from the other side of Europe. That said, the prices aren’t ridiculous.

Their buildings are architecturally nice on the eye and designed to suit the area or history of the town or city they are in. Staff have nice uniforms and you receive good old fashioned customer service from them. I love the ethos of the store. Their fresh desserts are absolutely delicious. British people will say it’s at the top end price wise.. up there with Waitrose and Marks and Spencer’s and I agree.. but our friends and family in Australia and America / Canada will say it’s actually cheap for them! We didn’t know your prices for groceries were so high. Great videos - always a pleasure to watch and very relaxing, too! Nice to watch happy content with no bad news. Keep up the great work. Grocery shopping on an empty stomach is usually a sure path to disaster at the check out. LOL! You 2 showed admirable restraint, getting the items that you actually needed to buy instead of throwing caution to the wind. Aldi Grocery store chain in the States is a fun-to-browse international food market that is not so posh as Booth's but the cheaper prices make buying unfamiliar foods/brands more tempting. Fun trip. Thanks for taking us along with you. Incidentally, I don't remember seeing Kirsten's eyeglasses in other vlogs but they are very flattering.

What a nice, dare I say even enjoyable, grocery trip! They have a good amount of variety and local foods are always a plus. I perked up when I saw Kristen holding the magazine. I enjoy browsing English Home, it gives me a taste of England without the travel. I'd much rather be there in person, of course, but it's the next best thing along with your vlogs!

Wonderful film. I love exploring supermarkets when I travel. I’ll be in the north of England this fall and will make it a point to visit the local branch in Clitheroe. So happy you bought the Chilean wine, Carmenere grapes are so delicious and they produce this very fabulous wine. Take care.

This was GREAT FUN!! I loved it. All those Pasties and Pies look soooo yummy and the Strawberry Cake looks DIVINE! I’ll be right over for a cuppa and Kuchen. Hope that’s right😊😊? I hope Dad and Lotta are doing well. She must be a teenager by now… awe. Thanks GUYS!!!

Thank you so much! Hm yes, Kaffee und Kuchen - so popular in Germany. That's so kind of you to ask, they are doing very well. Lotta is turning 1 year in 3 weeks, she is so cute.

Hi! The Garafalo pasta is also here in Ontario Canada! It is a great brand. I love penne pasta! Manuka Honey has healing properties as it has methylglyoxal, which has antimicrobial properties, so it is that bit more expensive. Great to have in your cupboard for when you are feeling under the weather with sore throat, or a cold. Thanks for another absolutely delightful video! Hugs to both of you!

This will be short, but I have rarely enjoyed my marketing days. Watching your video touched my heart about a regular chore of mine. The enjoyment of the store atmosphere, the product displays, and pricing information... turned my shopping days into a new level of enjoyment. You are so talented even when home going over your purchases. Very enjoyable... A new level of shopping will evolve for me and others, I'm sure. We all need more appreciation for the things so available to us. Not everyone has it the same... ❤❤❤🎉🎉❤❤❤

As an American, there weren't many things that seemed expensive in the grocery store. Also, most all grocery stores in the US have flowers, basic pharmaceuticals, and cards. We have lots of micro breweries here as well, so fruit beers are very common. Your cake looked fantastic! Enjoy.. Also, your magazine would have been at least double the price here in the US. Im so surprised by all of this as ive always been told England is so expensive. Maybe in big cities like it is here? Thanks for sharing ❤

21:13 That's a nice coincidence. I visited Cartmel last Saturday (24 August). I spent an enjoyable day at the racecourse. Cartmel is the home of the sticky toffee pudding, so my wife and I just had to buy some. Cartmel is famous for its food and drink, and its reputation as a foodie destination is well deserved.

I know but we sadly didn’t have a choice. We had to get up at 5am so we could film for our channel right away when the shop opened. Otherwise it would never have been possible I’m afraid as it gets too busy and we had permission for the very early hours.

@@KirstenJoerg You're welcome & thank you! It was fabulous! There was a free open day at The King's Theatre in Portsmouth, where we watched a free half hour performance of scenes from Charlie & the chocolate factory, The Adams Family, Sponge Bob, which was brilliant & so funny, lots of singing & dancing which was spectacular and we also won free tickets to see Charlie & The Chocolate Factory & Man in the mirror too, so somebody was or is looking down on us for sure! 🎉 The theatre have open days where you can look behind the scenes. It's such a beautiful theatre & the shows & Christmas pantomimes especially, are mind-blowing! :) So I thoroughly recommend a visit!
