Great info.. However, my symptoms are a bit different. All works fine except that the "on" light for one burner remains lit even after I turn it off. The burner is actually off but the light remains on. I opened the panel to maybe clean ribbon prong ends but the ribbon does not have "prongs" at the end, just soft plastic. Nothing to clean. Any thoughts? There are four elements each in a clear plastic box, and a couple look dark on the top. Looks like fuses? I can't remove the covers to inspect. Help!

I love how say the thing that can hurt you and I bet there are many workers who cut themselves on metal panels.

Be nice to know if I can avoid removing the rear screws of the cooktop, and just remove the front screws & tip it up in order to replace this same element on our downdraft unit. If not, this is a terrible design from a maintenance perspective ... having to disconnect the fan duct and slide the entire unit out onto the kitchen floor just to replace a heating element is ridiculous. One of the front heating elements stopped working properly just after the 1yr warranty expired, naturally. Crap product, will never purchase another Kitchenaid appliance.
