What a great vid. I've been struggling with getting my power stoke right for ages and this taught me why I was getting it so wrong. Thanks so much.

As a windsurfer this sometimes confuses me as when I 'sheet-in' the power increases while on a kite when you use the trim to 'sheet-in' you pull the leading egde of the kite towards you thus reducing power. Hope I got this right?? Hard to teach an old windsurfer new tricks.

you got it, but rather than pulling the leading edge towards you its more like your letting the trailing edge blow up higher away from you. same thing..

videonikita Me? He fails to address a major concern and talks ‘beginner talk’ for the most part.

The sheeting is the depower... Isn't that so?
@kiteboardingcom18 жыл бұрын
+MrAnthism Good Morning, good question. The depower is more of a "fixed" setting on your kite. While the sheeting is more of a dynamic movement you adjust on the go as you move the bar in or out.

Sheeting adjusts the angle of attack, which changes the way your kite flies, if angle is too wide (open) you can get more power/thrust when actively flying your kite, but also increase the chances of stalling as the open angle needs more time to fill up with air from wind on turns (especially if they're sharp). Not a problem in stronger winds but definitely will notice it in light winds, especially if/when you fly the kite aggressively. If you decrease the angle, you loose some of the thrust ("depower"), but the kite will fly smoother and stall less in lighter winds, which will actually give you more fluid behavior. So "depower" can actually result in "better" power or more efficient flight. That's why I agree that calling it a "depower" is at least confusing if not incorrect... If you find your kite stalls a lot, like mine did, play with the trim or power adjustment strap, at least that's how i discovered this "feature"

You shouldn't be using a bar without a chicken loop unless you are very experienced.
