Great review! I'm a new rider and bought this jacket because I'm older and want the best protection I can get. Tried on numerous jackets and kept going back to this one because I felt safe in it. It's a heavy jacket and expensive but not if it limits you getting hurt.

I bought the Klim badlands pro jacket about four years ago in the high vis green , this jacket is worth every penny! it seams like a lot of people think it may be to stiff and uncomfortable especially if you are able to try one on at a dealer, yes it is a bit stiff and crinkley but it does get better over time with ware.I never get on my bike without it no exceptions, I ride year round rain or shine in the winter no problem heated liner and I’m good ,in the rain it has never leaked, the summer in Northern California gets over 100 degrees and that can be a challenge for sure, but I never leave on a ride without it.after you have had the jacket a while it just becomes part of you like the rest of your gear i highly recommend worth the high price.

I decided to not mess around and spend the money for something that can help protect me in a crash or mishap on the road or trail . Since I saved thousands on a 2019 Suzuki DR650 I had a few bucks for good gear . Got the same jacket but black and tan version along with Klim Badlands Pro pants . I go a step further than most as far as riding gear . I upgraded to a Leatt HD Pro 5.5 because of the added impact protection and it has a bit of good rib and almost kidney protection if you wear it lower . Also have Titan Race elbow guards and Titan Race knee/shin guards . I have taken a few tumbles and bounced right back up , no worries . When the time comes and I hit something hard I will be very happy I have this extra gear on . Had to get a summer jacket and really like the Klim Baja 4 , lots of ventilation but less armor . I swapped what I could out of the Badlands Pro jacket and will use the better armor in whatever jacket I wear . So far 2500 plus miles mainly on pavement with about 50 miles of dirt on my DR650 and Tenere 700 . Good review , Klim makes great gear but it's a bit pricey but if you can somehow get the money together don't hesitate .

Spot on with my findings. Walked into Chaparral Motorsports last week to buy one and after trying it on it was just too heavy, stiff/crunchy, and fit a little odd. The large felt like a tent, and I couldn't point my arms straight out with the medium. Ended up riding away with the Carlsbad. I don't think it will be my daily driver in the summer months, but it is pretty well vented, enough pockets, armor, and features to go from cold mornings to hot afternoons especially both days a year it rains in SoCal ;) Good vid. Nice review. Well thought out and executed

Not sure why, but my 2015 Klim Badlands size medium fits me like a glove, then they changed the Badlands a couple years later, and none of them fit me right anymore. They fit me more like a snowmobile suit now.. Just like you say, heavy, stiff/crunchy..

I have a Badlands Pro jacket & matching pants. Totally worth it - been warn 5-days/week through 3-seasons on PNW weather abd it's solid. Also have Lattitude jacket/pants + Induction mesh. I kind of mix match depending on weather abd route. Note I bought the other stuff after 4-years in the Badlands Pro. No regrets.

Thanks for this comment, I'm also in the PNW and a daily commuter. I'm looking at the badlands set and cringing at the expense, but I'm tired of outer shells that are clearly not designed for daily commuting use.

Thanks for the review. I've just purchased the Badland Pro 2020 edition. I think the Klim jacket kidney belt also functions similar to a hip belt on a multiday hiking backpack; it distributes the weight and gets a lot of the weight off your shoulders. Perspective - this jacket sells for more than AUD1,700 in Australia! Ouch.

Klim is nice gear. A step down more budget jacket is Scorpion Yosemite at $389, marketed as all season with 2-liners. I found It too bulky with both wind liner and warm liner and unwearable with the warm liner as it becomes Michelin man thick and hard to move in. Im always happy when it’s at least 60 degrees then I can wear without the wind liner on the freeway. Great review as always.

I appreciate your honest reviews. Thank you Big Rock, I ended up buying this one rather than the Carlsbad, based on the need to use it primarily on the street I like the extra armour and wind flow,/ breathability.. Your content is great information, really appreciate the low key essential information. I got this badlands in high vis and I feel safer in it for visibility. I came from the Joe rocket ego jacket and ballistic pants which I loved But I didn't love the zip in waterproof liner. its too hard to get on when the pouring rain has started already! lol. Thanks

If you spend around 3k kitting yourself out with the best gear and look after it, washing it using the correct method as instructed by Klim along with wearing proper base layers the cost over the lifetime of the gear will work out less than buying a burger every day but it is only worth spending that kind of money if you are going to use it for what it is designed for other than just to pose down the local cafe at weekends or if you buy a GS instead of adding all the 719option parts kit yourself out with better gear

What about the Baja jacket for the hotter weather, have you tried it.
@themotofixery3 жыл бұрын
I just bought this jacket and i agree with everything you said. My only complaint is that its hard to put my arms into the sleeves with a base layer on such as a heated liner because the elbow pads want to slide down the sleeve. Its a bit of an ordeal trying to move the elbow pads back up. I wish the pads were more securely held in the sleeves. Otherwise it seems like a great jacket.

After 12-13 years my AeroStitch RoadCrafter has given up any thoughts about being waterproof. Wet stomach, crotch, and inner thighs when I hit a deluge. So, I'm looking at the laminated suits. Reading through the comments it seems like the Badlands Pro is pretty stiff and bulky. I had hoped to get away from that as the roadCrafter is somewhat in that camp. maybe the Carlsbad that you mentioned is the way to go?
@BigRockMoto3 жыл бұрын

@@BigRockMoto That was the feeling I was getting. Thanks for verifying the vibe. 👍 It is tough when no shops around me carry Klim to handle the product. I’m in Coastal Nor-Cal, Humboldt County.

I went ahead and ordered the Badlands Pro Jacket in the cool grey but I have to wait for the pants in my size. I think the Carlsbad will make its way into my rotation but I have too many long distance rides at night when it is cold and wet, so my thinking is to have as much protection from the cold as possible, even with an electric liner beneath.
@GreatEgret2 жыл бұрын
@@pinkiewerewolf after a year now with the Badlands Pro, what do you think of it? Would you go with the Carlsbad instead! I’m trying to decide between the Badlands and Carlsbad.
@pinkiewerewolf2 жыл бұрын
@@GreatEgret Hi Joe! For my environment the Badlands Pro is still the gear I would purchase again. The cold humid environment here on the Nor-Cal coast means that I can go from the upper 30’ss to the high 70’s on a Winter ride. Some rides I might not get above 45f. This doesn’t sound like much compared to temps in the Midwest but my rides are regularly about 8/9 hours. If I were still in Illinois I would definitely go for the Badlands Pro as well. In the heat & humidity lighter gear would be preferred, especially if you’re going to do technical riding in the gear. Then the Carlsbad might be better for some but I’d honestly go for something even lighter for that. I’ve been experimenting with wearing MX gear under the Badlands and strip the outer layer off when I hit the heat. Just body armor under a Jersey, under the Badlands jacket and MX style pants under the the Badlands pants. It has been working well. In Winter heated gear works perfectly under the Badlands. Depending on your bike’s wind protection the Badlands vents OK. On the Pan Am in heat it works, not so much with the Ultra Classic in 100f. I hope that helps. I’m sorry for the lengthy reply.

Hi i have same issue leaking after less than half a hour really disappointed after all the advertising on testing and keep you dry good job i found out before being out in wilderness Klim said go through gore tex warranty brand new jacket wanted to do testing on goretex when its the zips that are the problem goretex said zips not there problem i am fighting for a refund i really dont trust klim anymore i think they changed zip style but really cant see them working without covers Goretex has gone down also in my opinion they supposedly tested it i have spent enough and spending shipping here there and every where is ridiculous and they know its a problem
@sukhoi37473 жыл бұрын
@@MrBigdog6931 The problem is caused by the vent zippers design. There is no external flapper to protect the zipper, rain water hitting directly onto the zipper will leak thru eventually. I have the Kodiak jacket, the vent doesn’t leak because the external flapper really helps

@ryanmalone26812 жыл бұрын
Not sure I agree. When I compare Klim to the Rev’It equivalent, it seems less. The armor usually needs to be upgraded to CE level 2, there is a lack of light colors which make a huge difference in warmer weather, there isn’t as much adjustment and variation in sizing, and less technical materials, albeit there is usually a slightly lower cost in Klim.
@michaelironrider94432 жыл бұрын
Don't agree to your comment. I tried the REVIT Dominator 3 in store. It has a better collar, but far less ventilation zips. the costly production part of these laminated jackets is to cut the 3 layer membrane and insert waterproof zippers. So I would say the Revit is better for autumn/winter riding, but alternatively you could buy Rukka which has the same few vents but is far cheaper.

I don't know if I can ever justify spending this much money on riding gear (since riding season in Finland is about 5 months long, 6 if you push it), because my leather jacket and kevlar jeans have served me so well (even had a crash with similar gear that I'm using now and it did its job well) and I always carry a rainproof overall with me that fits in a relatively small bag, if I'm anticipating rainy weather on my ride. But it sure would be nice to have gear that wouldn't require me to stop and put extra layers on me. Problem is, everything is sold online and there are very few stores in this country that actually have a descent stock. There's not a single dealer that sells Klim gear, I would have to order it online from Germany or something and that is really off putting because I am pretty nitpicky with my clothes and riding gear and always want to try them on before I buy them, because most of the time they don't really fit or they look like shit, even if they look good on a model or a mannequin :)

I've had one for several years now, don't wear it often, never liked it, some of my nit picks are if you fall on your side the elbow amour can break your ribs ask me how I know, it is so heavy it will limit how long you can stay in the seat, it will leak in a all day rain, the Green has faded to a sickly color, the front amour and the belt soon go to the wayside as gimmicks, It's hot and cold depending on the weather....

I bought myself a different Klim Jacket, the Badlands pro. I am very disappointed about this product, it is so much of not practical. It states to have a lot of pockets, but acutally you cant use them, they are to small, of are made of mesh material, or are being blocked when u open the upper part with the straps to hold it open. It very uncomfortable, it feels like a middleage armor made of metal. I rode with it about 500km and bought myself a Rukka R.O.R. jacket with a additional protector suit inside it. That is so much more quality and comfort. Sorry but for me : No Klim again. Overrated and not good for real world usage
