I know a game console in the last decade and half that wouldn't have benefited from delaying its launch for about a year: the PS2. That was the only console of the 6th generation with backwards compatibility; the GameCube didn't have a slot for N64 cartridges, at least I don't think it did, and Microsoft didn't make any consoles before they made the Xbox.

One thing I do have to give Knack from the little bit I played of it was at some point at the very beginning of the game, you go into a cave to be introduced to how you and what you are made of was discovered. During the explanation of this, whoever was narrating mentions that there's nothing of any value left in the cave when there are very clearly gold veins literally everywhere. I chuckled quite a bit at that.

Looking back, it kinda makes sense that launch titles serve as the graphical and technical benchmark for new console generations, but it also makes absolutely no sense at all. Launch titles are what people are putting out when experience and knowledge of the capabilities of the hardware are in their absolute infancy. Look at the first Resistance when the ps3 launched or the first Uncharted about a year and half later (or GTA 4 (it'll make sense in a minute)); now look at GTA 5 or The Last of Us or the last two console God of Wars. Noticing any difference in how nice everything looks? Fuck, look at Gears one compared to Gears 3. By the time 3 came around, Epic finally figured out how to add the color green. We get the best-looking and optimized games after developers have had time to figure out how to work and push the hardware they have, and they simply don't have the time to really get as good as they could be when it comes to launch titles. Which is why, in retrospect, it seems a little odd that we tout the earliest examples of hardware capability as the be-all-end-all titles, when those are actually a ways down the pipeline.

You know, here at the end of this console generation and the inevitable (if uneven thanks to the horde of scalpers making the consoles impossible to acquire) spawning of the next one, Yahtzee never did soften his stance on the Xbone and the PissPoor. He called it "the worst console generation" right here in this video, and you know, with the benefit of hindsight he was probably right.

This game was pretty fun. As said in the video, it's in the same area as the Crash Bandicoot series. While not as good as Crash Bandicoot, it's a game you will have a bit of fun with especially if you miss the harder games that were about during the PS1 era.

destuctir Each to their own, but there's plenty of good and great looking PS4 exclusives this year: Infamous, The Order 1886, The Witness (timed ex), Oddworld, Uncharted (2014/15). If you have a PS4 now, you certainly wouldn't be short of exclusives or multiplats in december this year. But of course, it's entirely upto you.

I dunno, isn't crappy release titles that show off the flaws of the console kind of Sony's thing nowadays? I remember my friend getting a PS3 at launch and bringing it over to my house to show off. All I remember was a brown and bloom generic FPS with ragdoll physics about as advanced as an atari game. lindinle I kind of enjoyed Wrath of Cortex but it seems like the PS crowd suffered a similar quality dip as the Nintendo crowd. Though at at least Nintendo didn't just give up on them (well we do still have Rayman going strong) and have managed to most definately bring the awesomeness back into Donkey Kong, Mario, Zelda and even Pokemon apparently* in the last few months. Now all we need is a good Metroid game as an apology for Other M and Nintendo may be back to being awesome game developers rather than weird console developers. *I haven't played X or Y but they do seem to have a lot more hype than the last few generations
