Well Becky I have just watched this video, came over from Spirit Forest. I have camped most of my life, and today a young 16 year old girl taught an old dog a new trick. As often as I have sharpened my knives I had never considered using the inside of my belt as a strop, always carried a barbers strop, lol. I love seeing youngsters getting away from the electronic world and out into the natural, it is even more special when it is a young woman sure as yourself, especially when you are giving such good advice and instructions into everyday tasks THANK YOU --an old Canadian--

While watching her video S3 #16 the next i line for viewing was by Girl Outdoors, so I figured that seeing I had watched all the current ones of Spirit Forest I may as well see who this Brit was. I must say you impressed me, enjoyed watching you with your dad and sister. The video's I have watched have been quite enjoyable. Nice to see my pastime enjoyed by others, especially a young female like yourself. I hope you can continue to post, and I can watch. @@GirlOutdoors

Beck, I used to be obsessed with how acutely sharp I could get a 1095 steel blade. I stopped at hair splitting under a microscope. I decided that anything sharper than hair shaving sharp was just a waste of energy and profile steel. The sharper it is, the more impossible it becomes to keep it that way. I like your knife. Just the right size for you too. I have paper wheel sharpeners and japanese water stones up to 12,000 grit. I have other systems as well, but find a few strokes on the strop is plenty if I don't abuse the blade. Take care of it. It will be your best friend. Love your vids. Liked and subbed.

I use exactly the same technique to sharpen my knives as you do, the difference is that I use a block that is fine on one side about the same fineness as your fine side, the other side is incredibly fine and it gives a whole blank cutting edge on the knife. The stone you use is especially good if the knife is deaf or slightly damaged, you should try to find a much finer stone. A good video where you show exactly how it is done and nice associated explanation. 👌

Hi Becky; Again great video. Compliments to your cameraman. I was taught to never baton with my knife, as it may damage it, unless I didn't have an ax/hatchet, but you do things your way, not saying that it is wrong we were just taught differently. You mentioned using a fungus for strapping! I am over 50 and have lived in the boreal forest of Canada most of my life and I have never heard of this! Which goes to show you your never too old to learn or too young to teach. Could you please elaborate on this and maybe demonstrate. Thank you. Glen

Hi kiddo, if you find yourself without a sharpening stone, you can use a large ferro rod by pulling your blade backwards as you would when stropping. I use this method a lot. It's not as effective as a stone when really dull but puts a really good edge on when touching up. Try it. Good videos, keep them coming.

Good video. You don't need to buy an expensive sharpening rig. Very nice knife. Thing is you really need only one good one. Something I learned in boy scouts before your father was born long ago. When building a fire on the forest floor always check for old tree roots. A fire can catch those old roots and keep burning after you're gone
