Disney SW is garbage but Elite fighters use 16 oz gloves to hit pads days before they fight with smaller gloves to hit real people trying to hit them back. It’s called drilling. It’s normal in all martial arts to drill with gear you won’t use in a fight to help refine technique. At least they showed her training. The prob with Disney SW is crap story telling, malicious disregard of source material and destruction of legacy characters. Sure it might have been over the top but a padwans holding their own in a duel is not what’s wrong with SW.
@toastyrules82216 ай бұрын
@@fl4shblade There are some merits for training with wooden stand ins. For instance you minimize the risk of injury (even if the training sabres aren't lethal to counteract that point), they help with mindfullness of the blade, as swinging around something with weight is better for memorizing the moveset than with just the hilt for force feedback. If the individual moves shown would've been more dynamic instead of a kendo warm up ordered on wish didn't help the scene at all.

Executing a murderer/war criminal -> wrong, letting him get eaten by Giant Moth monsters -> good. We know he lives at the end but the fact that the 'good' guys thought that was right/proper is funny.
@Pie37666 ай бұрын
It's even worse than that. It's not letting him get eaten by bugs but causing him to get eaten by bugs. They just tried to kill him with extra cruelty, not to mention lose of life of the bug as he defends himself. More Cruel. More Death. Less Humane: The jedi way! It really seems to be a problem with modern writing. It happened in Doctor Who as well when Jodies doctor agrued with a trump stand in that shooting the giant spiders was unjustifiable because even if they were killing people they are just doing what animals do so we should just lock them in a room to starve to death instead. And in the same season, sealed the main villian in a stasis, that is in his own words, is for his victims to "suffer for eternity" rather than have one of the companions shooting him to avenge his wife because guns are bad. The people that write this are clueless or immoral.

Making it conditionally rare is also just bad writing, it's like "Oh it's SO incredibly rare, but also we'll pull out entire armor pieces and stuff made out of it." The introduction of cortosis(or whatever it is) reminds me of the introduction of Force Healing in Rise of Skywalker. My reaction was, "Ok. This was done in the Legends EU, but it wasn't done like that, and this way it's too powerful." Namely, the healing wasn't "insta-heal fatal wound" it was "go into sleep-like trance that lasts hours or days to heal fatal wound" (except in the video games because "video game mechanic"). Cortosis could resist/short out a lightsaber but, if I remember correctly, the saber could be reignited near-immediately and the saber did actually cut partway through the armor. So, cortosis armor would give you an advantage, but not a game changing one except for the first time you use it because of the element of surprise.

10:58 Okay, on the issue of the “mystery” in this show. 1. There was no real investment to the mystery. Who Smilo Ren’s / Darth Teeth’s secret identity turned out to be was never really going to have a major impact on the plot or characters. The reveal of Darth Vader being Luke’s father had MASSIVE impact in the OT because it fundamentally altered the course Luke would take and the plot beats that would follow as a result. In the Acolyte, we understand very little of what the character motivations are, and therefore, no “plot twist” is going to significantly impact our understanding of how it changes the dynamics of the story. People guessed that Smilo Ren might be Mae and Osha’s mother because she had a major connection to them and it seemed to be the most significant way to impact the story going forward, but even this was going to be very shallow if true, as we had very little understanding of Osha and Mae’s true connection to this character, who herself had very little development. 2. Notice how with this mystery, people were mostly theorizing NOT based on the clues within the show itself, but based on the meta surrounding it. People were asking, “what are the writers going to do?” because there was no confidence in the mystery being competently written. People said that the apothecary guy might be Smilo Ren, but it seemed so blatantly obvious that it felt like a deliberate misdirect, like a Scooby Doo episode where there is a ghost with an axe and one of the suspects is a woodcutter who carries an axe all the time. People were split between, “well, all the clues blatantly seem to indicate apothecary guy, BUT are we even sure the writer’s are competent enough for the reveal to make any sense?” All in all, the impact of this reveal can be summarized with the iconic quote: “Oh no! Anyway…”

Cortosis/Beskar/Phrik/Anti-Lightsaber metals don't block force powers, they never have. The only thing that does that is a lizard from the EU called the Ysalamiri which projected a bubble of force-neutral space. Thrawn for example was known to keep some as pets to use against Jedi. The problem is, if Smilo had one of these or had lined the mask with it's blood or something to reproduce the effect, he shouldn't have been able to use the force himself. I think they got force mind-reading mixed up with legilimency from Harry Potter which specifically needs eye contact. There are ways around force mind-reading, Revan's Sith agents were particularly good at this (ala Atton Rand) but that's more misdirection than negation.

So for those unfamiliar with cortosis, in the EU it did have a few things to balance it. Of course Disney will never bother trying to explain or even use any of these. It was an ultra rare crystal which can be refined into sheets and layered into armor. The issue with it is that first off it’s VERY difficult to find, to my knowledge the only piece of layered armor with it that we’ve seen is Vader’s aventail (and that was more to justify why Luke doesn’t accidentally chop his arm off when he landed a clean hit in their duel on Bespin.) The other issue it has is that…well it’s a crystal. You can break it with a hammer or something very easily. It’s good against lightsabers and basically nothing else. Layering it into armor also meant that the armor’s durability was somewhat compromised.

I will address his armor shorting lightsabers. You guys brought up Cortosis as a material that does this. You are in fact correct that it does. In the Old Republic wars on the Sith Empire lead by the Brotherhood of Shadows in the first Darth Bane book? The material is shown to be EXTREMELY difficult to mine and work with. As such, it rapidly reveals itself to be incredibly expensive, and is also fairly rare. With corrupt mining guilds often trying to seize control of any sources so they can market it to the republic forces and sometimes the Sith empire for extortionate prices. The issue that I'm seeing here with the armor used is the simple question of how this Sith got ahold of it. He also claims all he wants is to use his power his own way. Which if he was Sith, as the show implies he is? Then he would also have a hate for Jedi as a rule being his ancient enemies. But him having Cortosis armor that effective calls in MYRIAD questions. As Maul, Dooku, and Palpatine never had access to such armor. And they had been using Cortosis in small amounts to lace the armor of imperial Stormtroopers. But the amount used was so slight due to the sheer expense that it didn't really help much against even blasters. So the concentration used here? WAY higher. But how? How could he get ahold of the credits and contacts to get armor that effective. The show is not going to answer. And if it does? It'll probably be half assed.

Old Ben Obiwan disarms a guy in the cantina (sorry alien name escapes me) Luke and Wedge destroy death star 1 with COUNTLESS lives on board. Luke throwing handgranades in ATATs to kill people inside. Anakin kills Sand people... Last time I checked this was "STAR" "WARS" not PASSIVE AGRESSIVE PLAYTIME

@@rayvonvelez3129 Master Sol should have handcuffed him (like what Jecki did to Mae) since he's still a threat.

Let me fix this scene for them: Sol: What master hides his face from his pupil? Smile-O (seems to drop his guard) confidently walks adjacent, toward a dead Jedi on the ground and nudges at them with his foot making the body shift and roll. Sol has his lightsaber up in a defensive stance. Smile-O: Did this one truly know his master? Smile-O head slowly turns and glances toward Sol. (Indicating the same reference applies to Sol) Let me know what you think. -Thanks

Hire people based on DEI rather than talent and this is what you get.

They pulled a Halbrand. "Bet you didn't guess he was the bad guy all along!" Except everybody already had guessed the "twist".🙄

Dam. I knew this was going to be bad, but the second I saw that thumbnail, I realized “oh dear, he became a BARLOG. This episode was this bad…”

42:42 Technically Darth Vader did choked one of the soldiers in the old trilogy to death. But to snap a neck, that is a different story. Side note also: the choreography from the Phantom Menace of Obi Wan, Quidon, and Darth Maul works so much better than what you guys said happened in this trashy show.

May: "I love you, we'll always be together." Also may, in the same episode, and litterally the next day: "I'll kill you." Also may: "I'm going to surrender to the jedi, my sister is all that matters, they'll go easy on me when they hear the info I have (on the sith)." May the next episode, aka this one: spends the episode running away, fighting jedi with lethal intent, and knowingly abandons her sister to run away, while her sister is being attacked, and does it multiple times throughout the episode. ........😑.......oh I get it now, the reason the show took so long to come out, was because Hedlend and Falony wrote each episode months apart from each other, with no referencing of their previous episodes "work."
