When you cut the poison ivy vine going up the tree, immediately paint the part of the stem going into the ground with brush killer. If you don’t, it will grow back. If you paint it right when cut, the liquid goes down into the remaining stem. If you wait, it seals itself and will regrow. Good luck.

Remember…leaves of 3 let it be , leaves of 5 let it thrive . For poison ivy and poison oak . You guys are doing great !!!!

Unfortunately, that always doesn't work. Box Elder trees when just starting out can be misidentified by those who really don't know their plants as poison ivy. Young Box Elder Maples also may have three leaves with reddish stems. The main difference PI groups of three leaves are placed alternately along the main stalk. The maple's groups of three leaves are placed opposite along the main stem. Obviously if it's on a vine it's not a maple.

@@jimmyandkathyharrell I stated that as well. But sometimes I am astounded that critical thinking skills have almost disappeared. Have you seen the movie, "Idiocracy"? If so, I saw a few humorous memes from that movie. My favorites are: "Idiocracy was meant to be a comedy, not a tutorial!" "What if Idiocracy isn't a movie, but is a documentary?" "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots." -- Albert Einstein We need to get back to human Iinteractions and caring for one another. Relying on technology for interactions is not really healthy and people are losing their compassion and empathy for those less fortunate than ourselves. We are also losing the ability to laugh at ourselves and tolerate the beliefs of others that may differ from our beliefs.

Kyle, my husband Chad used to get POISON IVY so BAD that he would have to get shots at the hospital. Our property has vines running up some of the GIANT OAKS that are as large as my forearm. He LOVES to work OUTSIDE. It's is peaceful place, his excitement, and the place where he feels successful. So, what does he DO when he KNOWS he's gonna be mowing, trimming, building in a dangerous area? HE PRAYS THAT GOD WOULD PROTECT HIS SKIN. I've only seen a handful of bumps on him, since 2008. You guys do what's best for YOU. I just had to give God the glory for protecting him. Be good, don't work too hard. Watch out for this FLYIN' STINGIN' MACHINES!! God bless you!

Ivy should always be cut as low as you can get it . Leaving 6 in or more quite often it does not die and especially if it's a well-established plant another thing that will help to ensure that it dies is to put boiling water on it soak the roots I don't spray deadly chemicals on my property we always had great success doing this. We bought a new place last year and I am still working on it it takes time but when project is done I'm always like woohoo. I swear by Dawn dish soap. I used to do oil paintings (now disabled) and when I had a show one time, I realized that of the two aprons I had, I only had my.... let's say "colourful' (with paint, etc.) apron and my "good/clean" one I'd loaned to a friend. Well, I had nothing to use, and nothing to lose, so I picked off the 'chunks' of dried paint the best I could and then I poured a dab of soap on each spot, gave it a very light scrub with a wet scrubby, let it soak a few hours, I put it in the sink and rinsed it out and if I could tell where any spots were still, I put a bit more soap on them front and back, chucked it in the washing machine, hung it to dry (don't put things in the dryer until you know if it's all out) and it was clean as a whistle. I washed it one more time for good measure, chucked it in the dryer and you'd have had a hard time knowing it was previously such a mess. If dish soap can get rid of old oil paint on a canvas apron, that's good stuff. To this day, my daughter and I use small ponytail elastics to bunch up a bit of the fabric on our clothing where a spot is, such as salad dressing, etc. that is oil based. We've saved so much clothing from otherwise becoming 'painting, cleaning, etc." shirts, haha! I swear I have a bottle of Dawn in my kitchen, laundry room and each bathroom! Get the three pack at Costco, lol! Heather🇨🇦

I live in the city and got a survey right away. I wanted to know who was responsible for retaining walls and where the property lines were before doing anything. I've seen fence lines that were 10-20 feet off. Sometimes the builder just throws up fences, sometimes it is intentional encroachment. Surveys aren't cheap but will save you in a law suit,

They say fences make good neighbours, but I would say that only if the fence is on the property line, lol! 10-20 been encroachment! Especially now-a-days with all of the GPS and high(er) tech surveying equipment. That's craaaaaazy!

Kyle, you were looking up into the trees and you were right, unfortunately the main way it's spread is just like cedars. Birds! Unlike goats they love the berries so it's really hard to get rid of. Non the less get the crap out of the upper trees, bring in the goats, don't over feed them, make them eat the ivy and you're maybe 1/4 quarter of the way to getting it away from you homestead. Mike

KYLE--But you are the stewards of your land-you don't want to spray or apply poison on your land. It sticks around forever and could give you cancer or other problems. Also it can kill wildlife. The natural, organic way usually takes longer, but doesn't poison anyone.

Buy a bar of fels-naptha soap. When you come in from being around poison ivy shower with it. It's a good idea to soap yourself down three times rinsing each time. That will remove the oil from contact with the plant. My son and I are very allergic to poison ivy and that is what the pediatrician told me years ago. The soap is an old-time laundry soap that is strong enough to remove the oil.

I’m so glad you guys finally got your survey. How exciting for you both!! Life always is a roller coaster ride…That is what keeps it interesting. It doesn’t matter whether you live on a farm or whether you are building a house or fighting a disease every day is a challenge and the next day is a reprieve( hopefully), and if you have the attitude of I’m gonna roll with whatever comes my way and keep smiling and I can persevere through it, like you guys have been doing, you’ll get through whatever happens. My advice is don’t make a list or at least if you do keep it short so that you don’t feel disappointed or discouraged that you’re not getting things done like you wanted. When I was younger I always made a list and they were long and then I would take that list and mark off what I got done and I would carry everything forward and add to it …Consequently I was beating myself up trying to be superwoman

All the best, so excited and happy for you all. Love your new puppy also. wipe in the grass and sanitize at the camper. That is evil stuff! Wow, so sorry for the damage. Guys, in reference to the poison vines growing up the trees, the best thing to do is get a machete and cut a 2" gap in the vine. That will kill all of it in the tree. I suggest a machete because as apposed to your hatchet you'll be a bit farther away from the vine which when cut can splash you with sap. Kyle, you are not the one to do this. This stuff on the ground, though I hate doing this, must be sprayed and it will take a couple of years to clear it. The other thing you can do is get the goats up there. They love to eat poison ivy. If putting the goat to clearing it out, DO NOT spray it but just cut the vines and let the goats do the rest. Good luck. In my case, I'm immune to it. Mike

You are doing such good work and don’t want you to have to do it again. As when you need to find your property lines you need to find them and not search for days (like I had to do). Also just put a project list together and you can reorganize the list as you go. Don’t let the list keep you frustrated, as WE ALL have long lists. But you will have such a good feeling as you can check things off the list. ( don’t just delete them) . You need to see them as you do them. Ha ha You are doing such a good job! God Bless you!

My dad was cleaning out his woods and burned the things he tore out and ended up with poison ivy all over the exposed parts of his body . Your right don’t burn those vines lol

Love to see all your progress. I would enjoy seeing the first video you guys were talking about. Mainly because now I think I have a better idea of the lay of the land. It’s hard to believe how much you guys cleared now, so I’d love to see it. So exciting.

I really like your property as it is so beautiful. After I come in from walking in my yard do I ever itch. During the winter time not so much. Will be real nice when you get moved as your dog will be with you. Such a precious one and will have a friend with the new pup a cutie also. Happy for you to be getting a map of your property. You might want to mark the cornors with wooden stakes. Over time the flags don't last. Thanks and Enjoyed.

Get Dawn dishwashing liquid. When you get in shower with that then normal soap. Dawn cuts the oil from poison ivy, oak etc.

I had my surveyor marked every 10 ft. Then I spray painted with orange paint tree marker, so I could have a fire breaker cut, on the property line.
