While the budget is sometimes limited in Atelier games, there's so much heart and soul in these games. The music always blows me away as well.. To me, Achiwa and Yanagawa's work is easily up there with the JRPG greats like Uematsu, Mitsuda and Sakimoto.

What I really like about them is that while it's true that the budget is limited, it's allocated really well. Like in battle you have all these hero poses and animations that make it really dynamic and exciting.

Yeah, compared to the other where it is 'journey', 'friendship', 'youth' combos the Dusk is basically tons of people trying to live and save an already dying world (that happened from humanity own fault tbh). Like seriously, while they didn't portray it on the surface, the people in Dusk can be a real dick for some selfish arrogant reasoning.

Someone please bring back Mana Khemia please! T_T Atelier Ryza showed the world that Gust is capable of giving us good and fast-paced combat system, and since Mana Khemia is more battle-based relative to the Atelier series, we absolutely need a revival of Mana Khemia series! As for how I got to the Atelier series, my first attempt was Ayesha on PS3 but because of the in-game clock, I kind of lost interest. Then I decided to try Atelier Ryza back when it was first released and you know what, I'm hooked to the series! Finished Atelier Lydie and Suelle, and my copy of Atelier Lulua has yet to be played on my Switch (still in the middle of finishing Ryza 2 though).

Absolutely. Not only the musical theme, but also those ruins and environment have a strong "Secret" vibe. A whole lot of Atelier games came as a trilogy (well - some got a fourth game much later on with Lulua and Sophie 2, but they started as a trilogy), so it would be not too far fetched to see a Ryza 3 release that wraps up the "Secret" game series...

@@jclosed2516 if the third secret game also include Ryza as main character, she might be the first protagonist to be feature as the main one in all trilogy. I might be wrong since I am just familiar with Atelier series since Rorona. I remember Atelier Totori caught my eye on game store back in 2011 because I like the character design but can't buy or play since I did not have PS3 (my last home console was PS2). So when I bought Switch back in 2019, I bought Atelier Ryza to dive into the series. It took me a while to familiarize myself with the game mechanics but it was absolutely worth it and Ryza happens to be the most successfull Atelier title.

@@hirumi413 Well Ryza re-appearing in the second game was already surprising, so it's to be expected she will be the main character in the third game too. Gust does this more lately. Do not forget Sophie got a second game too, although not in the complete Mysterious series. The "older" series do have characters re-appearing in the series, but only as side characters, not as main character. But Gust likes to experiment a little. Even more so lately. Take the battle system in Ryza 1 & 2, that's completely different from the turn-based system in the previous titles. Even the alchemy is completely different from the grid-based previous versions. So - Using the same main character throughout a whole trilogy could be very well a thing for future games.

I have been playing since Atelier Firis and since bought all the games that are available to the west physically and played the translations of the others :D I love this series so much and The English Cast was a great addition, I love the Japanese Cast as well but I prefer the English one.

I almost always prefer Japanese dub over English when it comes to anime, but the English dub in atelier really grew on me. Hearing Il talk about her snow rabbits or Firis saying barrel always warms my heart ^_^

@@anhdunghisinh I must agree here. Do not forget that all "themed" games (Arland, Dusk, Mysterious) where initially released as a trilogy. It's not too far fetched to expect the "Secret" series to have a last and finishing Atelier Ryza 3 game. The musical theme is indeed a give-away, but also the showed environment consists of ruins and "Secret" locations that fit perfectly in the series. Time will tell if we are right, but a Ryza 3 is a very, very strong possibility...

I haven't been able to keep up with Atelier as much as I would have liked and I'm not sure I can catch up at this point, but it's still a charming and fun series with amazing music and beautiful art. I'd play the titles more frequently if they had more dragon characters as awesome as Gray from Iris 2, but that's just my personal bias talking. Still, I think Koei Tecmo needs to let Gust have a break once in a while and not force them to pump out Atelier titles one after another. There have been noticeable dips in quality (Firis and Lydie & Suelle being two big examples of rushed development).

Well, you can debate over convenient, but you can play Iris (and Iris 2 and 3) on the PC using the PCSX2 emulator. Sure you have to take some steps to produce a (iso) file that's usable for this emulator. But if you really want to play this game again, you probably will be prepared to put a little effort in archiving that goal.

It's funny that PS Vita of all things are the last released platform where you could buy the first Mana Khemia game, and even then the Portable port quality aren't really good. Mana Khemia 2 portable port on the other hand never got translated in english while the Iris trilogy never leaves PS2.
