Absolutely. I remember I was only 8 years old they had security guards in the theatres here in North America. It was odd. But once that song came on, the ENTIRE room was shocked! So much screaming and cheering I never heard a theater so loud before. The gaurds started yelling at everyone to keep quiet otherwise they'd escort people out. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

The best part is back in the 90s - if you were in Bollywood - 80% of the audience, didn't care for the plot. Our parents used to be so tired, and frustrated from the daily hustles of life that they wanted to escape to a different world through these movies. So the movies of this period were just that - they showed you countries you could only dream of visiting in 90s, love stories, hero vs villain action movies, or comedy movies. its only in late 2000s when we grew up and as an audience also wanted to see realistic cinema. Ill be honest, I still don't like paying to watch realistic movies in the theatre. Its the non realistic stuff that lures me in. Also it was the 90s, I think we didn't even know what the basketball game was about. We focused on the chemistry between the 2. I still laugh out loud today now that I know the game.

If SRK wouldn`t have done what he did in this movie, this movie wouldn`t have received as much recognition and love as it did. Because the kind of audience back then, they all love this melodrama, some times, over the top acting, quirkiness......Because this served as an important element in the movie and something that the audience expected and wanted at that time. Things changed slowly in the Bollywood cinema from 2001 where actors started giving more grounded, believable performances and having said that - the audience started accepting this. So, you need to group these movies based on when they were made (in what period of time) and critic accordingly. Because actors and the directors exactly did what the audience wanted/loved/admired, back then. And hey, it also has to do with the fact that you really need to spend a lot time (years) to feel the beauty of the Indian culture, its history, emotions, the way we think, the way we talk, the language and many other important elements that is required to enjoy movies like this and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Chak de India (which you guyzz didn`t like much). Watching the last scene of Chak De India and you don`t get those goosebumps, you are still not ready and really need to spend enough years here to just FEEL it !!

Am no fan of Salman Khan, but I think you should watch Khamoshi - the Musical... the guy can act, it just depends on the role and the movie style. Unfortunately, he chooses masala movies 99% of the times. Also, if I'm not mistaken, this movie is the directorial debut of one of your favorites - Sanjay Leela Bhansali... before he became THE SLB, and developed his trademark style. The music is lovely, and Manisha Koirala (the actress from Bombay) is fabulous. Definitely worth a watch!

You also need to watch PYAR To HONA HI THA with AJAY DEVGAN and KAJOL (real life couple). Its a really funny movie and bit emotional but Kajol's acting is amazing (as usual). The way she portrays a woman who is hiding her sadness near the end of the movie is just phenomenal. The songs are also very meaningful and catchy.

Gosh - the amount of love that you guys shower on Kajol for her acting, I wish she received half of it from the Indian audience. To the Bollywood audience - Kajol is known as cute, over the top, bubbly and attractive. She classifies as a 'movie star' whereas Rani and Aishwarya have been classified as 'good actors'. Its heartwarming that someone alien to Indian culture sees the acting in Kajol, which is what made her a huge movie star of her generation. In India, bubbly/hyper/ott women are never considered for their acting chops, while demure/modest/underplayed/etc women are seen for their acting chops....

I think you guys might like Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehena.. Even though it didn’t do well in India, i thought it was a fantastic movie. I think it was the subject matter. But a much better and mature concept of love and i Especially loved SRK’s character!! that was a revelation but all the actors were so good!!! Big B was hilarious lol 😂😍😅😂

Main Hoon Na is another enjoyable SRK watch, a movie that's not to be taken very seriously in a lot of areas but the way it's been shot, the makers and actors were self-aware of this fact and that's the best part.

One explanation for the first half being so over the top is that part is a fragment of SRK's memory and maybe that's how he remembers kajol and others to be...and the aspects he loves about Kajol's character... Like we tend to heighten things which have happened long time ago with us... The second half of the movie was more grounded because it wasn't anyone's memory or imagination, it was the present That's just my silly justification 😅 Love your review though 😘

Shakti - The Power was a remake of the telugu film 'Antahpuram'. And Prakash Raj (just like Nana) was phenomenal in the original, and additionally the original did not have the monkeying of SRK (Jagapathi Babu wonderfully underplayed that role).

The film doesn't pretend that they are basketball players, captains of their respective teams, etc. It was just something they enjoyed doing together as friends, that's it. Neither of them had to be good. If we were watching a bunch of neighbourhood kids playing cricket, would we care whether they are doing it "properly"? It would only matter if the actors are supposed to be portraying "serious" players.

@@janeryan2709 Makes sense. But I never said they had to be portrayed as 'good' players, only that they should have been portrayed as players with the correct technique. There are probably 1000s of kids who learn how to dribble a basketball when they are young and 99% of them never become 'good' players to be able to continue with the sport, but at least they know how to dribble the ball. That's what was required here. For eg, I am not a 'good' player of cricket but I sure as hell know how to hold a cricket bat. That minimum training should have been provided to the actors because let's face it - nobody selects a game and then proceeds to play the game without knowing how to play it. Just imagine that the same thing took place over a chess board with the actors randomly moving the pieces across the board. That'd have been hilarious, right? None of us expects the actors to be good, just that they should have been technically correct.

Rick, the musical motifs were something it took me a year or two to recognize, but when I did, it made me want to just go back and re-watch everything I'd watched, because I realized I's been missing the film's musical idioms which I think bollywood does better than any other industry- referencing the feel of whole films in just a few moments.

Agree, Kareena is a phenomenal actress and Karan did put all of himself into the character of Pooh but honestly how much more awesome could the character be when it’s already so awesome, much loved, still kept relevant, talked about, mimicked still, 2 decades later which, aside from Geet, is unheard of....Some people accept Pooh for being who she was....rich, spoilt, bratty, self centered, over the top, etc and just enjoyed her and the comedy of it all because they know it was an exaggerated character, that is why it’s still so iconic.... Don’t know why some people chose to take it so seriously that they get triggered enough to hate the character and some even hate Kareena for Pooh and “blame” her as if she did something wrong, when in fact she did a great job in giving her director Karan exactly what he wanted, himself on celluloid as the bitchy female.

@Jog Antani Agree, certainly Kareena has much better roles in different genres Ike Kurbaan, Heroine, Asoka, Chameli, Dev, Talaash, Omkara etc but there’s nothing average in Pooh or Geet in their own genre. You may not like them but the votes are not stacked in your favor.....No other actress in the history of Indian cinema has 2, not even 1 iconic roles. Moreover, these roles are so beloved, admired, mimicked, talked about, kept alive and relevant, identified with, copied in films and in reels of aspiring actresses for 2 decades. You can’t argue with that.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I highly recommend that. It's a wonderful movie based on a beautiful folk tale, directed by Amol Palekar. MUST WATCH! Very different from other films. Probably the only film of its own kind. And the music in that is absolutely amazing too. They should react to it's songs first.

Pure nostalgia once gain, I was in the 9th grade when this came out, waited for hours in a queue with my friend to get tickets. Eventually got for the third row from the front (had never seen a movie that up close ever before) And in the scene where Rani Mukherjee dies, the man sitting besides my friend was sobbing so hard that I burst out laughing and ppl around me thought I’m crazy or something coz I was laughing during such an emotional scene 😅 i still remember his face….

Probably the ONLY 90s SRK-Kajol movie I've ever seen and is still in my list of favorite movies of ALL TIME. Love it so much. I couldn't tolerate a minute of DDLJ and K3G for some reason. But have watched K2H2 more than 17 times I guess.

I somehow don’t agree with Rick’s (Indrani’s) narrative of Kajol being an actress. I mean she is an amazing actress but she has always been recognized as a STAR first. I still remember her debut movie BEDARDI with Kamal Sadana. We didn’t know much about her but we watched it just because she was a starkid and she was refreshing and bold. She Instantly became a star after that and Bazigar. People used to watch her not for her acting capabilities but because of her great chemistry with SRK and Ajay Devgan. I was a huge Kajol fan but I never really realized she has been such an amazing actress until few years back when I rewatched some of her older movies.
