Great video with clear explanations. I am curious though about the Lipo connection to the Kweld. You attached a link to XT90 connector. What is shown on the video seems to be a different type of connector. Have you modified the XT90 connector(s)?

In this video I used XT150 connectors. They can handle more current but be sure to double or triple the shrink tubing to prevent the battery terminals from touching. I learned it the hard way. amzn.to/3ilHWyV

That steel washer you placed between the lug and the fuse will add some resistance you don't want.
@YvonSmart
@YvonSmart 3 жыл бұрын
That steel washer prevents the sharp edges of the lead from biting into the coded surface of the fuse. It's necessary, BTW the resistance is so small the kweld is still capable of 2000+ amps output and 500J

@YvonSmart Hi.....I don't have this great Kweld kit yet but I'm just wondering about powering this unit with instead the single 5000mAh Lipo, I've got two 4000mAh Lipos and I'm wondering if Iwould be able to 'junction' them in series with the correct plug connection to add up to 8000 mAh. Can you please tell me what I would have to be very concerned about in the way of a correct homemade Y-Connector so as still being able to deliver the needed power without frying the connector? Thank-you....Paul

Series does not add capacity, series increases voltage. Yes, you can parallel them to 8Ah, many people parallel two medium power lipos to give them enough power to get 1200A+ spot welds. These turnigy packs are some of the best out there Turnigy is one of the few that isn't blowing smoke up your ass like a chimney when it comes to C rate. These cells are a legit 1mΩ each, not 1.7mΩ they are usually 1.0mΩ Your Y connector must be as short as possible and must be able to handle the current. Obviously the 150 connectors he used here are rated for 150 amps but thats for continuous usage not a 20ms burst. So I highly suggest using something rated above an XT90 and doing a damn good job making the parallel connector. I would look at doing the wireless method although I"m not sure if thats possible with XT150's, I know it is with XT90's

If you can't bolt together a simple PCB board design 1. You shouldn't be playing with lithium cells at all 2. You shouldn't be playing with 1500A+ 3. This price is amazing for what it offers. Find a commercial spot welder capable of 1500A+ under $1000. You won't. They start at $2000 and most are $3000. And that doesn't include your welding head/pens

How many welds can you get with a single battery charge? They make a power supply kit w/ the Kcaps where you simply add a server power supply but I don't need to perform a ton of welds and the battery is a cheaper option.

@ericklein5097
@ericklein5097 7 ай бұрын
@@aurelien38 this depends on which model they are talking about. There's a BIFRC board that can potentially do 0.20mm pure nickel but you need a proper power source and there's one popular channel on here where the guy has added heat sinks to handle the fact that the board is small and doesn't dissipate heat well on its own. He says it still gets hotter twice as fast as most other boards. The self contained BIFRC with the built in Lipo that looks kinda like a power bank is grossly under powered. 0.15mm Pure Nickel isn't going to get a proper weld, perhaps 0.10mm pure nickel will. 0.15mm or 0.20mm nickel plated steel with slots in the middle is probably the thickest material it can do. Obviously there's going to be some variation in the power of the Lipo included. I wouldn't expect them to be using anything fancy since the self contained unit sells for $30 so probably $10 spent on the Lipo cell(s). If you get lucky and store it properly (3.75-3.85V when not using it) you might get a strong Lipo that lasts a couple years and from the start it MIGHT be able to do 0.12mm pure nickel or give you shitty welds with 0.15mm pure nickel. Would love to see the OP post a BIFRC that can do 0.30mm pure nickel

Great Video 👍👌 Unfortunately I don't have access to a 3D printer 😔 Do you know anyone who can 3D print the "plastic Electrode holder" ? I would be happy to purchase one from yourself or someone you know with access to a 3D printer. It would be great if I can operate it with one hand. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thankyou 😊

What's so good about it and how is it better than a professional welder??
@YvonSmart
@YvonSmart 3 жыл бұрын
It's a heavy duty spot welder in a portable form factor. No 120v/240v spot welder in the kweld's price range can be compared to this. I have tested so many of them. 240V always worked better, but the US runs 120V. For a professional spot welder, you need an expensive one if you want this welding quality. The only thing annoying about the kweld to me is the fact that it runs on battery as you have to keep charging it for extended work times

ive tried a $400 sunkko spot welder and that thing is ok but the kweld is so much more reliable, more consistant welds and can use diferent power supplys and batteries, this welder blows others out of the water
@Convolutedtubules
@Convolutedtubules 3 жыл бұрын
@@YvonSmart Sounds good but I am still unsure how or why a DIY welder is supposed to be better than a factory built model. Does the kweld somehow have more reliable components compared to any other welder? Also, how does this result in a better or more reliable weld quality? I'm just asking because I almost got a sunkko but in the end decided against it and used a cheap little device to do the 1500+ welds I required for a project. During my tests of the device, the welds always came out looking and feeling perfect. Looking forward to hearing your opinions.
@YvonSmart
@YvonSmart 3 жыл бұрын
@@Convolutedtubules the kWeld is a pretty good portable welder. It can't be better than the professional 120V/220V welders that cost more than itself, but the ones in its price range are either at the same level or worse. They use a transformer to step down the voltage and increase the current (Very powerful on 220 - 240V ), but here in the US, we use 120V (unless you get a special line for a shop or something). Then the device performs worse than the advertisement done on 220V. The Kweld isn't really a DIY welder, it comes disassembled just to lower cost. The draw back is that you need the required battery to power it and it kinda sucks because you still got to keep charging the battery during intensive use. So in conclusion a professional welder is always better, just stay away from the cheap ones. Also, if you decide on the model you wanna buy, youtube it and watch actual test videos. Many of them just don't work.
@Convolutedtubules
@Convolutedtubules 3 жыл бұрын
@@YvonSmart I didn't realize that the devices operate poorly at 120v, good to know that. My 17$ battery spot welder did me good for close to 1500 welds already with 99-joule impulses and it did not complain other than heating up slightly. I highly recommend this cheap red welder for anyone who has a limited amount of welding and can't justify the 200$+ cost of a sunkko or kweld.
