Honestly neither the show or the fandom give Watari nearly enough credit for his clutch moments. Everyone helped, obviously, but if it weren't for him it would all be for nothing because Higuchi would either escape or kill himself.

I mean and L would've died from lack of sweets by now. But in all seriousness he seems to be slightly less intelligent then L but with 60+ years of exp to make up the difference. He seems to work the more social part of things, a good example is that building they're in. L can throw some money and a perfect building model, but getting contractors, engineers to make sure its stable in Japan, architects and keeping them all in line so that the building gets completed in a frankly crazy speed, all that was Watari. Heck even recruiting the thief and the conman, L said I want these guys and Watari did it. Thief is one thing but he baited the best conman into a death game, that takes more then just "here's alot of cash"

i think watari is a crutch character for already a crutch character i don't dislike watari but the story only exists for L (the mangaka didn't plan ahead much) and L only works if Watari is there. watari is great, but he's a story device and not a character.

@@lightningmonky7674 If it truly did end there it wouldn't be satisfying at all. Even though the anime poorly adapted part 2 (trying to fit 50 chapters into 11 episodes) even it still requires part 2 to function as a story. The manga obviously even more so as it's half the story

I love seeing reactors when Higuchi first writes in the notebook, because we all think "This is the moment, L is seeing the power in action!" when all L sees is someone writing a name in a notebook. We all fell for it, and I love seeing that realization.

Just so you know, frenzy means “excited, uncontrollable, and sometimes violent behavior or emotion” so it’s talking about Higuchi’s behavior being panicked and all over the place rather than the amount of something.

I know this was probably loooong ago. But ifyou see it purely from this guys perspective, and tunnel through, it all makes sense. There is a massive difference, between "maybe we can lure Kira to this facility" mindset, that this guy had at first versus "all of this is for this guy, because he is Kira". Difference between a specific trap for 1 person, or just in general a trap for anyone who would show up, where he later could claim something else. It went from very cold to very hot in seconds, and that is why the trap is pretty perfect

do you guys think you'd jump into non animated shows on occasion? obviously animation is great and i love it as the soul of this channel but there's a handful of live action shows i think you would enjoy and are definitely worth checking out! even if they never show, I'll jsut list them now Merlin (BBC) Follow prince arthur to being king arthur with the strongest warlock born, Merlin, in a canterlot where magic is punishable as death... and Merlin is Arthur's servant. it plays with teh world and legend of King Arthus in fun and interesting ways, and teh character dynamics are top notch, and a lot of the set/costumework stands up to this day, as well as a decent amount of the cgi. White Collar To gain some freedom from a prison sentence for personal reasons, and cut his sentence short, professional and master con artist and forgerer joins up to tackle other similar major uncaught criminals with the main detective who pursued him for years. it's been a while since i've seen this one, but i remember, again, the character dynamics are wonderful, it's one of the few instances i can think of where a married couple in the heart of a show is a healthy and happy couple (even if it can be rough sometimes!), and while i didn't knwo it at the time (as i first watched it with my family as a child) has one of my first ever encounters of lgbt community. we get to see some lesbian representation, which for 2000s is kind of a deal, and again, i was a child, but i recall it being done well. The Good Place Our main character is dead, but don't worry! she made it to... The Good Place, basically heaven but none of the religions were quite completely correct. The problem is, is she does not belong in heaven, and if she got found out by the person who runs the place... well, she'd go to the Bad Place (hell). in self interest to Not Do That, she has to learn how to be a good person, and has to learn it fast. While this show is technically a SitCom, the storytelling through the 4 seasons is heartfelt and fun. i enjoy the comedy, it tackles teaching morality from all angles, including literal, and once again,,, teh characters. oh my god the cast of this show is amazing, there's wonderful chemistry, and you just get to see all them grow and develop to be better people in a natural way. this is one of my go to rewatch when i just need soemthing on shows. Good Omens this is one i need to rewatch, honestly, but it follows an angel adn demon tasked of dealing with earth since essentially teh dawn of time. from when adam ate teh forbidden apple, to... well, the incoming armeggadon they'd really rather not have happen because they like earth and they like humanity. you'll notice i'm a character gal, and again,t eh characters here, let alone the character dynamics, are all great. the flashbacks to different points of history (following biblical tellings but in a fictitious way) as this angle and demon keep bumping into eachother and bonding despite their intended opposition, the hijinks to try and save the world from the revalations, and the absolute wonderful way gender is just. played around with. It's inspired by one of Neil Gaimen's works, just like the movie Coraline, so you know it's going to be good.

does anyone feel sad for higuchi? he might've been a scumbag but was just living his life until shitbag rem(and indirectly light) chose higuchi to be the next kira. At least for light he was unlucky to pick up death note, but for higuchi he was trapped by light and rem since they gave him death note knowing that eventually he will be caught. Its like if I give you candy bag and you might think that I am being generous but candy bag happens to have drugs and then you are caught by cops for no fault of your own(of course higuchi killed many people)
