Los Angeles landlords offering appliances is a relatively new phenomenon. In the 70’s through the early 2000s, you almost always had to buy or bring your own stove and refrigerator. In-unit washers and dryers were virtually unheard of. Most duplexes and triplexes built in the 20s and 30s had service porches with washer/dryer hookups, but no machines. Mid-century apartment buildings had shared laundry, as did early, circa pre-1925 brick buildings with fire places. Today, you’ll usually only find in-unit laundry in condo and apartment rentals built in the 80s or later. However, in recent years, almost all rentals have stoves and refrigerators.

Very insightful for sure! Thank you for sharing. I think this applies to a lot of places as I grew up in Chicago. Most older buildings don’t have in unit washer/dryer or A/C for that matter lol once I became grown I favored newer buildings for this reason
@hereforit23472 ай бұрын
@@skyehendon: That makes sense. The newer buildings offer more amenities for sure.
@hereforit23472 ай бұрын
There used to be nothing to rent downtown but pre-1925 brick buildings with fire escapes that were rundown and scary. There were a few artist’s lofts in the industrial corners of downtown, but not many. The whole high rise thing is VERY new. Downtown had no grocery stores, no Targets, and really wasn’t residential at all. The few high rises L.A. had were primarily in Century City.

@@skyehendon Florida is not that far behind. I am from south Florida which is the best part of Florida period but you will deal with tropical bi-polar weather a lot, humidity, and high cost in rent then low paying jobs. Florida is beautiful but it’s a place you come to after you have wealth established tbh but it’s still a melting pot, lots to do, and you’re never bored unless you pick to do so.

@@Wealthismybirthright I love this comment. I have to agree. I lived in ATL and went to college down south. The low pay equates to the lower cost of living. I'd only move once my business is more profitable. That's for sure. What's your fav city in South Florida?

Personally, I would never live in Florida. The prices are not too bad for Los Angeles.

@Wealthismybirthright @skyehendon ewww south Florida is way too crowded I guess it depends on your personality and wants in life. I'm on a cute little island in North Florida and I LOVE IT HERE. The weather never gets as bad as South Florida. South FL is cute for visiting but living is a no for me. We love our charming town, beautiful quiet beaches and shopping is the same as anywhere else in Florida. My husband works from home so Pay isn't an issue at all. I guess it all depends. I love that I can vlog and it's not too chaotic around where I am too.

Fellow Chicago Girl. DO NOT move to DTLA. I was there at a friend from Chicago's house watching fireworks on the 4th of July in the hot tub when an unhoused man scaled and flung himself over the gate and basically bathed in the hot tub and pool. Don't do it girl. It's not worth it.

Do you explain why you are moving back to California. Also your old penthouse isn’t’ an option?
@skyehendon7 ай бұрын
I never left Cali. I just left LA. My old penthouse is rented actually and when I lived there they tried to charge me over 2700 and that’s ridiculous lol and then they turned around and rented it for 2500 once I left. So I no longer want to pay that much for a rental. I’d rather own a condo and pay a mortgage 😆
@Mr.CEO8887 ай бұрын
@@skyehendon oh ok gotcha, i thought you had moved to Chicago. Yeah rent is getting ridiculous. Seems like they rather have it empty than charge a fair amount or keep renting it good tenant that pays on time and doesn’t have any problems.
