This is making me wanna go apartment hunting so bad… And I’m surprised about the prices bc I was expecting DTLA to be a lotttt more expensive than where I live but it’s only a little bit more
@spacemono541911 ай бұрын
Yes, but other parts of LA is unlikely you will find prices like this. Most people are not living in DTLA these days because of the crime, drugs, and homeless population. Unfortunately, these issues are getting worse and the ca gov and LA gov is not doing much to help, which causes apartments to be less moved into, and a lot of old LA apartment buildings dont have great infrastructure, but thats around the whole county, and a lot of stores have closed. Its a bit dystopian in some parts of DTLA because they still build gentrified coffee shops or restaurants with very expensive prices, but then outside is full of extreme poverty and addiction. Other parts of LA and certain buildings in DTLA you will see very high prices , but the wealthiest in LA usuallt live farther from DT, and those prices are so ridiciulous , like over 1000 for a small room, and there is a lot of fees.. Sorry for too much context, but that is just what I would say accounts for the pricing. But Im glad she was able to find an apartment there that she liked and in her price range!

@@spacemono5419 yup! You’re spot on! Businesses in the area are super expensive and are getting priced out. All my fav restaurants closed down this year! I only found the building I applied to because I was referred to it! Tbh tho I wouldn’t know what part of LA I’d want to live in if not in dtla. @twinelle11 ай бұрын
I’m from the Central Valley so I love the stark difference that dtla offers. It’s full of beautiful historic buildings, fashion district (sewing supply stores + sample sales), central location so easy access to all metro routes (I don’t drive), it’s full of creatives (everyone I’ve met here is either a designer, owns a business, etc), and I love the nightlife (clubs + restaurants). There’s just a lot of sentimental value here for me cause I got my first “adult” job in fashion district and saw my first street art piece I studied at uni in person that I ran into by accident (banksy’s Parking mural). It’s easy to see how dirty and dangerous it is but I feel super inspired and motivated when here😃I think it’s definitely something you need to feel out for yourself cause it’s not for everyone✨ Oh btw I got mugged in ktown! But, crime literally happens all across LA. I feel more safe in downtown than I ever did in ktown tbh

:-( I won’t lie, as an LA native viewer, I’m SUPER disappointed that you took extensive time to talk about buildings being near skid row as a “negative” and that “the area is so bad”, but that you didn’t at least briefly mention or link resources to learn about the systems in place that created skid row as a humanitarian crisis. It was very hard to hear you say these things without at least briefly mentioning that there is an intentional reason as to why skid row is the way that it is while watching you tour such expensive apartments. I also recommend looking into the history and current circumstances surrounding those “abandoned skyscrapers” and the billionaires that own them. You came into this community four years ago, so I’m hopeful that you engage with your community and take part in advocacy, and I have no idea what you do outside of your social media time. I just think it was extremely out-of-touch to speak so extensively about the community of DTLA without at least very briefly including such important context, or at the bare minimum, including resources where people could learn more on their own. I love your videos and I think you can do so much better than this!
@twinelle9 ай бұрын
Hey! Totally understand where you're coming from. But, I've lived near skid row for a handful of years and have seen the effects of bandaid solutions provided to skid row and it has led to "negative" PERSONAL experiences. I have been assaulted, catcalled, and put in very uncomfortable and dangerous situations in this neighborhood. And not saying this happens in just dtla cause crime happens EVERYWHERE in LA! But, yes as a woman who runs errands in downtown by foot, I said what I said to ensure others know what to expect if they move into the neighborhood. I didn't give an expansive history lesson of the area because the sole purpose of the video was to give insight on the buildings with available rental units. I've done research on skid row, the historic buildings of DTLA, and the abandoned skyscrapers that just barely hitting social media because of the graffiti art. I do what I can to help those in my community, donate to women's shelters, and advocate for garment works countless times on my platforms. I do think it's unfair to expect content creators to HAVE to engage with the community and HAVE to advocate on certain issues when my content has nothing to do with that and it's also not my job to educate others. But, I agree, I could have included links or resources where people could donate or read more on skid row since I mentioned it in the video.
@enoughblush9 ай бұрын
@@twinelleThank you for responding and recognizing where I'm coming from! I completely understand wanting to share any personal experiences as someone who moved into the community, that was not what I was critiquing. I actually agree with points that you bring up, such as not wanting to expect content creators to have to advocate for certain issues and educate your audiences! I brought up community engagement as a way to provide benefit of the doubt / attempt to not be accusatory, but rereading my own words, I absolutely think it makes sense why you might interpret it as an expression of an expectation. (Though I will say, I think that every human being should engage with / work to improve their own communities, regardless of influencer status!) I more so wanted to express that I do think it is a big oversight to not, as I said, at least *briefly* mention that there is quite a bit of history and context that exists, especially since you did take the time to bring it up in the first place. And I also hope that I'm making sense with my wording, apologies if I'm not, I'm sleepy this afternoon!
